Stylish SMART blend of convenience & security

The Level Lock+ seamlessly replaced our Nest Yale lock on our iron entry front door, addressing our primary concern of maintaining the aesthetic beauty of our rugged iron door. Unlike many smart locks that are easily recognizable, the Level Lock+ resembles a standard deadbolt, discreetly concealing its smart features within the door without any bulky components inside or out. Opting for the matt black variation to match our oil-rubbed bronze door, the Level Lock+ exudes a sleek and unassuming appearance, seamlessly blending with the door's design. The straightforward installation process, detailed in the Level website's video, made the setup hassle-free. While the Level Lock+ impressed with its functionality, the non-matching silver components posed a minor aesthetic inconvenience. A quick fix with matte finish spray paint addressed this issue, highlighting the need for Level to include color-matching options in the future. Powered by a CR2 battery, the Level Lock+ offers convenience with a physical key as a backup for scenarios where the battery might die. Integration with the Level app and HomeKit was seamless after setup, with the added convenience of Home Keys for unlocking via iPhone using NFC. Despite initial hiccups with Home Keys, resolving the issue through reinstallation and Apple Home app setup proved effective. The Express Mode feature in Wallet app, along with various unlocking methods, including Siri, Home app, and key cards, showcased the Level Lock+'s versatility. The Level Lock+ demonstrated reliability and convenience, providing notifications, access logs, and automation options through the Home app. Sharing Home Keys within the Family setup was straightforward, offering easy access for family members. The combo pack, including the Keypad and Connect, enhanced the overall experience. Installation of keypad and connect was a breeze, and the illuminated keypads added a nice touch. While the 4 to 6 digit password for the keypad was functional, an option for an 8-digit password would enhance security. Overall, the Level Lock+ exceeded expectations with its sleek design and multifaceted functionality. The convenience of unlocking with a tap on the iPhone and the ability to manage access in various ways make it a valuable addition to our home security. Despite minor improvements needed, such as color-matching options and longer keypad passwords, we are thoroughly satisfied with the product's overall design and performance.

Very Nice Looking and Very Smart Lock from Level

Level - Lock+ Connect with Keypad Smart Lock Bluetooth/Wi-Fi Replacement Deadbolt with App / Keypad / Key Access. We’ve been using SMART locks for 5 years. LEVEL’s newest LOCK+ Connect with Keypad incorporates a nice set of features in a very sleek design. There is no simpler way to manage entrance into your home for yourself, your youngsters, visiting family or in rental situations. There are no keys to lose (but there are included keys if you prefer them). You can connect your lock to the Apple Home Kit, Google Home and Alexa (requires the LEVEL CONNECT bridge which is included). You can add a KEYPAD with KEY CODES, which persist or expire at a chosen time. This is useful for visitors or service people. No need to hand out keys. Ever. And for us, the homeowners, it gives us a choice for how we want to unlock our doors. SETUP: I loved the installed product. Getting here was frustrating. Instructions and online support needs to be re-thought by LEVEL. End users should find the LEVEL online SUPPORT pages and begin by setting up an account on your phone. (iPhone in my case) The phone instructions and videos were not helpful for me. They were too superficial and skipped important advice. The web site printed support was much more complete, but sometimes required searching for specific help. The INSTALL top menu takes you nowhere useful. I couldn’t locate installation for either the CONNECT or the KEYPAD devices until I searched those terms. As far as instructions go, I’m going to suggest that LEVEL invite a complete novice to install their lock while they watch. All the pieces are here and it’s actually easy. But in some ways it’s like a puzzle box emptied onto the table. DOOR INSTALLATION: There is only one RULE here. You lock must easily slide into the door strike plate. The door latch should also properly hold the door in one position without needing that extra push. If this works properly, everything else required for the LEVEL LOCK installation is very straightforward. It was obvious to me that our previous dead bolt had a narrower rectangular profile whereas this new LEVEL bolt is a perfect and wider circle. I had to spend some time with my hobby rotary tool to grind away some of my security latch to make our strike plate opening larger to ensure a friction-free locking bolt. PERFORMANCE: The various locking control mechanisms and the App performed as expected, although my Apple HOMEKIT is troublesome to set up with the lock not being the issue, at all. Google Home setup worked after the necessary procedure to add a service. Setting up multiple KEY CODES is pretty easy. I have my KEYPAD working although my brick exterior will need to be prepped for mounting in a few days. This is an easy lock to recommend. Most homeowners will be able to do this install themselves, but if your door needs re-alignment or the strike plates modified, a locksmith or handy person might be helpful. When completed, the door lock mechanism operates smoothly and the entire installation looks to be of high quality and is extremely robust.

    Engineers really thought of everything

I've been around smart locks for a long time now. This Level Lock is replacing another smart lock I've had on my door for quite some time and I personally work with other types of smart locks in my day to day job. The reason I mention that is because this new Level Lock+ has me thoroughly impressed. They've thought of just about everything when they designed this lock. First thing you notice is that it doesn't look like a smart lock when installed. That's part of the beauty of this. It looks like a regular deadbolt that barely gives any hint of there being something inside for someone to try and hack, if they even could. Plus it just looks better, especially when it's installed in a nice decorative front door. My previous smart deadbolt was the exact opposite, and just this big eye-sore that stuck out like a sore thumb. I honestly couldn't wait to get this Level Lock installed. That installation didn't go perfectly though. Most of the steps went easy enough. Everything fit perfectly straight out of the box and I didn't have to make any type of adjustment, and the bolt part actually fit better than my previous bolt. The problems came when it was time to set it up through the app and get it connected. The app couldn't find the lock at all. After trying all the troubleshooting steps I had no choice but to call tech support at Level, something I HATE doing. I ended up having to do a hard reset of the lock for the app to finally find the lock, and let me complete the installation process. As much as I hated calling tech support, I will say it was one of my best support interactions. It was a late evening, but I hardly had to wait to get connected to a support person who was extremely nice and helpful, and most importantly, easy to understand and located right here in the U.S. She handled the case perfectly and even stayed on the line after fixing the initial issue to make sure I didn't run into any other problems during the rest of the installation. She even answered some questions while at install steps that required a little bit of wait time. With the lock install complete and the app completely set up and connected, it was time to get my wife setup so that she could use and manage the lock too. She has an Apple Watch and was most excited to be able to use that on our door like she uses magic bands at Disney World. That process didn't go as smooth either. Again, getting Apple Home from her iPhone connected ended up having issues finding the lock. This time all it took was removing the battery from the lock and re-installing it and Apple Home finally found it. We got the lock added and just like magic, her Apple Watch unlocked and locked the door just by holding the watch face up to it. At this point there was still one more setup to go. We also have Alexa enabled in our home, so we figured we may as well connect that as well to have yet another way of locking and unlocking the door. Yet again, Alexa had trouble finding the lock to connect to it. So again, I had to remove and re-install the battery to soft reset it, after which Alexa was able to find the lock. With that done, all it took was the sound of our voice speaking a simple command and verification, and Alexa unlocked and locked the door. The verification step is you just telling Alexa a code you set up so to prevent random people just yelling out to unlock the door. All of these connection issues only happened during the mentioned setups. Since then I've had no other issues with connectivity and I haven't run into any issues actually unlocking and locking the door, regardless of which method I used. That leads me what is probably the best thing about this lock, and that's all the different ways you can use the lock. There's your standard old physical key, the app, the phone itself, Apple Watch, keypad, Alexa, and they even throw in a couple hotel style keycards! The app makes it easy to manage it all too. Having the physical old key itself remain an option is nice too just in case the battery dies on the lock, because if the lock doesn't have power, that's the only way to open it from the outside. My previous smart lock didn't have a physical option, and the first time the batteries died I was locked out and had to go through my garage. I don't have to worry about that happening with this lock. The battery used is a battery I'm very familiar with as it's the same battery I use on the smart padlocks I work with on a daily basis. It's a good battery that I've seen last a very long time. It's impossible for me to know right now how long it'll last in this smart deadbolt lock but I have high expectations. My previous smart lock drained its regular AA batteries surprisingly quick, which is how I ended up locked out that I mentioned. The battery compartment location is ingenious too. They really put a lot of thought into the design and getting all the small details right. So far I really like this lock and don't have anything bad to say outside of the connecting issues during setup. As I said at the start of this review, I really am impressed by this lock and how the engineers put a lot of thought into it, so much so that I actually asked if they were hiring developers while I was on the phone with support, to which she said to check the careers section on their website, and I proceeded to do. Unfortunately though they're not hiring developers at the moment, but at least I have this awesome lock to play with now!
