Range is as advertised. Scanner code on dvr for app works great and opens ports on your router automatically so you can view from outside your home! Like the ability to add more cameras in the future. Best buy price matched.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Strike # 1. I purchased the B-A720-162-8 less than two years ago. I’m unable to adjust the color from an purple violet, I had to set them to black and white. I sent a request to Night Owl. My response was directions on how to adjust the colors, even after I told them I knew how to adjust the color. Strike # 2. A month later, I now have a camera that doesn’t switch to night vision. The others cameras when switching from day to night make an audible clicking sound like a relay switch. Strike # 3 I came home and now the system doesn’t power up. All I get is a flashing mouse and after remover the cover there is a blue LED that flashes as well. To top it off I’ve replaced the cpu cooling fan about 3 time because they start to make a grinding noise. I've seen better picture quality from lower end units!! Last I just sat on hold for 15 minutes to only speak to tech. support from a Night Owl saff person that was only good for reading the trouble shooting PDF, which I just looked up. In our conversation I told him that it is out of warranty, was told that Night owl doesn’t repair DVR's, I would have to buy a new DVR…..Complete waste of my time...Looks like I’m ripping out this system and going with a different company other than Night Owl…

Posted .Good Afternoon. I sincerely apologize for the experience you have had with your Night Owl system. We know it can be frustrating when experiencing equipment failure. Often times a camera failing to switch into Night Vision is the result of the camera not receiving sufficient power. Try plugging the camera directly into your camera power adapter, bypassing the splitter. Additionally, please contact 1-866-390-1303 for additional troubleshooting. We will ensure that your system is fully troubleshooted and that we do all we can. Again, sorry for the poor experience you have had and we look forward to remedying it.

Run, and run fast!

I bought this system 2-5-16 but didn't have it installed till April. Shortly after installation the DVR started making loud grinding noises. I contacted Night Owl and they allegedly fixed it. Well a few months later the same noise started again. I called support and the guy heard it and said to keep it unplugged and he'd get the RMA started. Well, that was 9 days ago and i still dont have it and just keep getting a run around. Check BBB!!! My issue is not isolated...the products and service are less than quality from what ive experienced. I wish Id gotten a Swann!!!! Run away, run away now!

Q: QuestionIf I use 8 cameras and record continuously, approximately how many days of recording can fill up an 1 TB hard drive? I like to store 1 month of recordings. Is 1 TB enough or I will need bigger capacity.

- A:Answer i have a 2TB night owl Hard drive and have 8 cmaeras as well, i you set the camreas to record 24/7 than its going to chew up the space very fast. The hard drive is a toshiba just like you would find in a very low-end cpu. Unless you are wanting to record the waves in the ocean than your best bet would be to set the camera to record motion only, otherwise you are going to record much of nothing. just think how fast a video you record on your phone takes up space. One video thru one camera 1 min. is about 100mb give or take. So for 8 cameras 24/7 you are looking at a lot of space or you can set the hd to overwrite.. hope this helps
