You just take it out of the box, plug into the outlet. Hold your iphone near it, your phone will guide you through the setup. You don’t need MacBook in the same room to play music. As long as your MacBook or iPhone in the same WiFi with the HomePod, you can play music anywhere.

Plug it into the wall and your phone prompts you how to set it up. It connects to your WiFi so you can be farther from it than with a blue tooth speaker. I use my Apple Music subscription to play whatever music I feel like listening to. If you are playing downloaded music from a phone or computer, AirPlay is very stable. This is an amazing product.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.All you need is an iOS device with wifi capability, a home wifi network and 120v outlet nearby. Then you are off the races. The MacBook only has to be on the same network not in the same room. You can have the MacBook in the house and the HomePod on the patio and you are good to go.
