Q: QuestionCan this portable ice maker be stored on its side in our camper, or does it need to remain upright? Working with predetermined storage space size and trying to decide if it will work for us. Thanks.

• A:Answer It is stored in the freezer compartment of the machine, and if it does melt it melts back into the water reservoir to be used again. A pretty neat concept. We have only had it hold ice for about 8 hrs, and shut it down at the end of our parties, and it still kept the ice frozen up until at least then.

• A:Answer Yes, the portable ice maker makes noise when it dumps into tray. Some humming noise while running as well. However, I'm amazed by how fast it makes ice. I use for a couple hours to produce a bag of ice to store for later. We have water softener & I don't like the taste of water or ice going through the system & the fridge. I can put up with a little noise & enjoy the convenience of not having to go out & buy bags of ice.

• A:Answer Make sure the ice basket is fully seated all the way down against its supports. Examine the supports beforehand to see if plastic "flash" from the injection molding process is present on the supports, which would cause the basket to ride higher than it should. This unit uses an infrared LED emitter and detector pair to detect a full ice bucket. You can see them on the left and right on the inside of the unit. Make sure these are clear of any obstruction or contamination. Clean them with Isopropyl alcohol if necessary.

• A:Answer The machine continually makes ice, it does not have the ability to keep it cold for long periods. It just melts & the ice maker makes more as long as there is water in the reservoir. I put mine in the ice storage bin of my upright freezer. It’s makes great crushed ice or works fine for cubes as well. Just shake off any excess water before dumping it in.
