A:AnswerAll A/C units operate pretty much the same. They blow cold air out the front, and hot air out the back. The hot air has to be vented out of the room. So if the room has no windows, one option is to vent the unit out through an exterior wall. The hot air exhaust hose will fit into a 6" vent hood (type used to vent dryers, kitchen/bathroom fans). You or a handyman will have to cut a 6" diameter hole in an exterior wall to install the vent hood, and allow proper venting.
A:AnswerThe exhaust hose is difficult to keep attached to both the AC unit and the window piece when installing it to the window, any slight pull on the hose and it would come off. Other then that installation isn't to difficult. I am not to impressed with the screen that is on the exhaust either. I would have expected smaller holes in the grate. Not an issue yet, but I would expect that any insect would not have issues getting in and cause you to have to clean dead bugs out occasionally.
A:AnswerHi Rick! Typically, when the set temperature is reach, the air conditioner will shut off and the fan may continue to run to cool the compressor; which is normal. If your air conditioner is not shutting off, please contact us directly. -CiCi
A:AnswerThe unit draws about 1000 watts or 1 kilowatt. You will be using 1 kilowatt-hour for every hour that unit is running. So if your son lives in an area where the electric rate is 10 cents per kilowatt-hour, then the unit will cost about 10 cents an hour to run.
A:AnswerMy window opening for a sliding window accommodated the 7" x 28" plastic receptacle for the exhaust tubing. I had to fill in a little bit with foam. There is an additional 20 inch or so plastic piece for a wider opening which I did not use.
A:AnswerUPS delivered only to front door, not even to living room. You need to clarify this when purchasing. I had problems with UPS arbitrary delivery times. Make sure you set your delivery conditions BEFORE you buy the unit. Five floors is a difficult haul, I would think you require moving equipment and technique to avoid injury and/or damage to unit.MAKE SURE TO SET YOUR DELIVERY TERMS BEFORE PURCHASE!
A:AnswerIt comes with 2 pieces if I remember correctly and was too short for my window. So I cut out a piece of plywood and used it in place of the second piece and it worked perfectly as seen in the attached photo.
A:AnswerNo. The unit weighs over 50 pounds and is solid on the floor. Mine sits on carpeting. I haven't used it on a hardwood floor. If necessary, you could always roll the unit onto a rug to minimize the tiny amount of vibrations it may cause.
A:AnswerA lot of duct tape, a pair of scissors, a garbage bag and some cardboard. Stick the end of the hose out the window and seal up everything else with the garbage bag and cardboard. You will have to perform a Frankenstein operation -- it will work, just won't look pretty. lol
