The subscription service is required for the full 2 weeks of guide data and for recording. It's primary purpose is to pay the guide data provider. When purchasing a SCRIBE Duo, you will not need to worry about paying any kind of subscription for a full year, and if you buy any more hardware, like another SCRIBE or a SERVIO in that time, that will add another 12 months of free service.
