- Answer Passive in this meaning related to a speaker means that you need to have an amplifier or receiver connected as your sound source. It's like the original type stereos of the past. Nowadays they offer powered speakers that have built in amps inside the speakers themselves also on the market. So if you have a conventional system the "passive" speakers are what you would use. Example: Many sub-woofers are NON passive or called powered subs because they have their own amp/power source built inside.

- Answer I think you will. On my system when I run it without the sub I get no bass. To me, without the sub I feel something is missing in the sound.

QuestionHI I have a Sony STRDN1080 1155w 7.2ch receiver and I was wondering if I could run 2 of the Klipsch 600 watt towers and 1 Klipsch R-120SW 400 watt subwoofer? would it have enough power to handle it or should I down grade the towers to 400 watt? Thanks.

- Answer I am using the Denon AVRS750H rated at 110 Watts/channel to power the Klipsch 600 Watt towers. This is similar in power to your Sony. I am also using the Klipsch R-120W powered subwoofer. With the volume control set at 75 (out of 1 to 100) I get as much volume as the neighbors would tolerate. My listening area is 30'x30' and 14 feet high. I'm sure your existing receiver will handle the larger Klipsch towers.

QuestionWhat gauge speaker wire is suggested for these? I've got 16 gauge running to the 100w rear speakers, but there is considerably more wattage here. It will be about a 6' run to the receiver.

- Answer You will be fine with 16 gauge wire - take a look at the cord on your girlfriend’s blow dryer, which is 1500-1850 watts continuous. I feel quality is more critical than gauge, so spend a few dollars more for whatever attribute floats your boat - oxygen free, pure copper, longitudinal stranding, special terminals, flux capacitor, etc.

QuestionI currently own the Polk T-50's. Are these Klipsch worth the upgrade? Are they going to sound that much better?

- Answer It depends on the age of the T-50s. Just off hand I would say yes because of the watt upgrade and the fact that these are made for volume. I would recommend a Klipsch 12 in sub with can be balanced appropriately so the bass is not overbearing.

QuestionCan i use these on my LG TV? I dont have an audio jack on my TV either. Also what reciver should i get? I just want two floor standing speakers, a subwoofd and a receiver if i need one.

- Answer No, it won’t work. I suggest you get amplifier receiver.Your tv should have a Fiber optical that will go in the back of the receiver. These speakers are big. Keep In min, you’ll also need rear speakers to complete a surround sound. The center & subwoofer is an optional but will help. The subwoofer is for the base. You can use your tv as the center channel.

- Answer You can use bare wire or banana plugs. There's a little plastic cap on the speaker terminals that needs to be removed to insert the banana plugs.

QuestionWhich would be the better center channel speaker for the R820F front floor standing speakers...the Klipsch Quad R-34C or the R-52C ?? The R-34C has 4 - 3.5" woofers vs. dual 5.25" woofers for the R-52C.

- Answer I'm not sure which is best but I bought the R-34C as it is what is bundled with the 820F in the home theater package arranged by Klipsch. Works great!

- Answer Are you crazy? They're floor standers so need to stand upright! Get some bookshelf speakers if you have to put them in a cabinet!

- Answer No. Depending on you receiver, you could assign them as atmos speakers, but that wouldnt work since they are foward facing. Klipsch makes several atmos speakers. There is a floorstanding model with speakers built into the top facing up, but this is not that model

- Answer Avoid these at all costs these are not the old reference line that we were used to. The high end line is now called Reference Premier line. I’ve been high-end audio enthusiast for over 30 years now if you own Forte ii’s I know you’ve been around the block as well the highs are so harsh on these speakers at mid to high volumes they will make you feel as if your ears are bleeding seriously I have heard some garbage in my days but these speakers will straight up damage your hearing. Luckily I’ve got RF 7 iii’s now that is the speaker to buy . Klipsch also has new Forte iii in their heritage line Pretty sure they would be fantastic but still couldn’t see them touching RF 7 iii’s though good luck !

- Answer I have the model 35's with 8" and very thick carpet and I really haven't noticed any deadening of the sound on mine there nice and crisp!.

- Answer The speakers are 10" wide, 16" deep and 43" tall. The shipping box for each speaker is 14.5" x 21" x 48". The speakers sound fantastic, although you might want a good 10" or 12" subwoofer to get the really low notes.

QuestionI have a Pioneer Stereo Receiver Model SX-535. Am looking for a great pair of speakers. What would you suggest being that every pair of speakers I look at only have component connections vice speaker wire connections?

- Answer The KLIPSCH REFERENCE II 820 do have speaker wire connections. If you do get these, note that they are heavier than they look and you have to assemble the floor supports. There is a front and a back piece and naturally, I put the wrong one in the wrong place the first time. The instructions don't indicate it, but the dimples in the speakers do match little posts on the floor supports. If you match them, you won't have any problems.

- Answer You need 2 speakers if you connect it to a stereo amplifier, which is the other item that you need. Make sure you get an amplifier (or receiver) that has enough power to power these speakers. Why buy $500 speakers and power them from a $100 amp? Doesn't make sense. Enjoy.

QuestionHow would these speakers perform if laying on their side in a 15x30 foot deep living room position on a bookshelf. With the highs positioned to the outside of each wall and midranges in the middle. My floor furniture would be in the way of most drivers.

- Answer You can place the speakers on their side, however, we recommend placing the high frequency drivers on the inside, and the midrange drives on the outside closest to the wall.
