Yes, the kit allows for connecting power safely and according to code, in your wall. The power is ultimately supplied from your power outlet. Considering there are spikes and lows in the electrical current, and the cost of your entertainment unit, it is well worth buying a surge protector. In fact, most surge protector have insurance against damage to your equipment connected to the surge protector.

This product does not provide any surge protection but you can add a surge protector somewhere along the line. If you are looking for surge protection and can run power directly to the TV outlet, the TV1WTVSSW or the TV3WTVSSW surge protective kits would work for you.
