“Why is the washer so big if it only has 1.0 cu ft capacity? Is all the space above this just an empty 'box' for show? I'd rather just save the space and buy one that's sized to 1 cubic foot.”

The main washer is Huge (5.2 capacity). The Sidekick is 1.0 capacity, which is a smaller separate washer that sits underneath the main washer and it is a pedestal.
