Q: QuestionA question about connecting a record player had 2 "yays" & two "nays." But not all record players are the same. That is why some are called "turntables." So to clarify: can you connect a quality TURNTABLE to this? In other words, does it have a preamp?

• A:Answer Hello Luislast, The TXSR494 does not have a phono pre amp input for a turntable. However, if you get a separate pre amp you can connect a turntable to that and then use the RCA inputs on the TXSR 494 receiver. But if you are wanting a receiver that supports a phono input built-in you would have to go with TXNR696 or higher in the Onkyo Receiver line. Thank you Onkyo

Q: QuestionHow can I use a USB FLASH DRIVE on this receiver?

• A:Answer This unit has a USB connection on the back panel. See photos. It has the ability to be set to supply power out to whatever is connected or not, also. I just connected a USB cord for Apple products to it and leave it hanging off to the side of the unit for ease of use. You would have to plug USB Stick into the back (need easy access to rear pane) or get an extension cable and connect that like I did and leave it hanging to the side for easy access.

Q: QuestionIs the units ARC channel bi directional. I want to input my TVs ARC channel to allow the use of the TVs remote to control the AVR.

• A:Answer Hello Tombc, For the TV's remote to control the receiver’s volume you would have to turn on the HDMI CEC within the receiver’s menu. You would do the same within the tv’s menu by turning on the HDMI CEC for the receiver and the tv to communicate. For more information, you can check page 33 of the TXSR494 manual. Thank you Onkyo

Q: QuestionI have 5.1 surround sound setup - with powered sub-woofer. Does this allow me to setup to wired stereo speakers in a remote location of the house --and hear audio in that remote location only? Or does the main speaker setup have to be heard as well?

• A:Answer Hello Ric, The TXSR494 has a zone B preout(RCA connections) that would have to be connected via a powered amp. Or you can use the Height/Surround Back terminals to connect the zone b speakers. Once you have zone B connection, below is the different variations on how you want to playback audio through the receiver. Below are the speaker selections: Displays the audio output destination. A: Outputs audio only to the main room (ZONE A). B: Outputs audio only to the separate room (ZONE B). AB: Outputs audio to both the main room (ZONE A) and separate room (ZONE B). Thank you Onkyo

• A:Answer Hello Justme, The TXSR494 technically supports the power subwoofer providing the subwoofer pre out on the back of the receiver. However, it all depends on the passive subwoofer design in order to use the speaker post on the receiver. If the passive subwoofer has a set of four speaker terminals that would show from amplifier (+/- terminal)to speakers(+/- terminal).The connection would: the front speaker terminals to the subwoofer, then front speaker. Now, if there is just a single +/- terminal on the passive subwoofer, for this to work you would have to get a dedicated amp to power that subwoofer. Then use the subwoofer pre out on the receiver to send a signal to subwoofer. Thank you Onkyo

• A:Answer Hello --- For the TXSR494, it only supports wired speaker connections. There is binding post terminal for the front speakers that you can use banana plugs or speaker wire directly to the terminal. The Center and Surround terminals it is only the spring clip terminal for the bare wire connection only. If you are referring to the subwoofer for the Bass, there is subwoofer pre out connection that a powered subwoofer to be connected to. Thank you Onkyo
