A:Answer No, you need it to be connected to the router.. There is no need for this to be in your room. This doesn't control anything. It just connects the Hue Lights to the wifi connection so you can control everything. It's literally a bridge from the internet to the smart lights.
What you should have in your room is an Alexa, or google home, home pod etc.
