We had the same request. It would not have been difficult to cut it, but the installer from BestBuy told us that he was not allowed to cut the hose down, and we were stuck with 8' of hose being folded up and twisted behind the dryer. We'll have to call someone to come fix it. (I'm too old now to be climbing over and behind appliances! LOL!)

You need to be very aware of your connection in the house and not the dryer. Our connection in the house was oval and vent are usually round.

            Answer

We recommend the semi rigid vent kit because it is longer lasting than traditional kits, retains heat and lessens the chance of damage caused by fire. Thank You, Frigidaire

            Answer

You can use this kit to direct the exhaust from the back to an outlet off to the side, but it will not change where the dryer itself exhausts. This is a universal install kit. A side vent kit is typically manufacturer-specific.

Why is this dryer kit needed?   (5 Answers)

I'm replacing a dryer and I received this kit. Because of this kit my new dryer is about 6 or more inches away from the wall. Is this kit required? Can I use a regular vent hose? Using a regular vent hose I could push my dryer further back to the wall matching the location of the washer.

                Answer

Seems like I bought this kit in order to qualify for free installation of my appliance by Best Buy's delivery personnel. I know what you mean about the kit causing the dryer to sit further from the wall. If you can find one that works with less wasted space, I'd say, "use it!" The only cautionary note I'd add is to make sure the outlet hose connecting your dryer to the vent is not unduly constricted, or squashed in order to save the space. The vent kit we're discussing is semi-rigid and kinks easily if you try to push the dryer closer to the wall. A more flexible hose might let you get your dryer closer to the wall but be squeezed out of shape in the process, restricting the airflow from the dryer exhaust. That is undesirable and coud damage the machine or at least impede its proper function.
