A:Answer I have these speakers mounted to the top of the matching L and R tower speakers. They fire upward and work well with ATMOS to essentially bounce the sound off the ceiling. I would imagine that the effect would be lost in a room with high ceilings. I would not recommend these speakers for use with receivers that are not ATMOS capable, or 5.2/7.2 setups, because they are pretty expensive for use as standard surrounds. The receiver calibration is essential for getting the right sound. My receiver asks whether they are mounted in an upward firing position, or downward. I would think that in-ceiling speakers have the potential to create a better effect than these are capable of, but you won’t get the ATMOS sound unless you have an enabled receiver and are watching content that is encoded with ATMOS. I like these speakers a lot and thought they were worth the money, but I think that it would make more sense for you to use your ceiling speakers for your height and use the money to upgrade another component.
