- Answer No Sony removed it from their devices since mid 2015 their tv's got replaced with chromecast commonly known as Android Tv and their players got replaced with a new customized software

- Answer It works. But your external hard drive must be NTFS format. If you use a Mac computer at home your drives are probably formatted HFS+ or APFS which this player can't read. Mac's can read NTFS volumes too, however.

QuestionHow does standby mode work? Manual says power button turns on the player, or sets to standby mode but it never seems to get to standby mode. The power button either turns on the player (green light) or turns off (no light). How does it set to standby?

- Answer You will have to go in to the setting of the player and change the following. [Quick Start Mode] [On]: Shortens the startup time when turning on the player. [Off] : Reduces standby power consumption. Hope this helps.

QuestionIve read on another thread that you can watch 3d movies with this player but does one need to manually change a setting to get 3d view initiated? It doesnt seem to show 3d content automatically like my old 3d sony bluray player

- Answer You need one high speed HDMI cable of your choice for your connection to the TV if going that way. Mine goes into the home theater receiver with the same, one high speed HDMI cable. Just look for '4K ready' on the cable description. Not sure how your soundbar is setup, if TV sound goes directly to it then you should be good with just your one HDMI cable to the TV.

QuestionReplacing the SONY DAV-HDX501W, already have the 5 speakers that came with the original system. Can I buy this UBP-X800 and use it as a receiver with the existing speakers, or should I get a new home theater system instead? Concerned with compatibility.

- Answer Hi Carrie, no, this unit is a stand-alone Bluray player, it does not have ports where you can connect speakers from a home theater system. We recommend getting a Sony 4K receiver to go with this Bluray player so you can also use your existing speakers. QuestionI have a Sony STR-DH800 Surround Sound receiver / system. Will it work with with the X800 player? I tried to hook the HDMI 1 to the TV and the HDMI 2 to the receiver, but I don't get any sound through the surround system.

- Answer You have to connect the player to the bar and the bar to the TV via HDMI ARC. Make sure to turn off all equipment

QuestionWhat is the difference between this model X800 4k bluray player and versus the X1000 which is $500 more?

- Answer The 1000es is for 3-D TVs. That is the main difference. It also has rca connections for more audio options. This is the top of the line Sony blu-ray. But if you don’t need 3-D, and you don’t need rca connections then I would suggest the X800. It is the finest blu Ray player I have ever owned.

QuestionWe have a Sony XBR-55X850A and just purchased a Sonos surround system (playbar, bass, and 2 'ones'). From what I've read, Sonos won't accept DTS but will accept Dolby Digital (DD). Will the X800 output in DD?

QuestionWhat 3D glasses are the best and work with this player?

- Answer The 3D glasses you need depend on your TV, not on the player. If you have an active 3D TV, you need active 3D glasses (battery operated). If you have passive 3D, any polarized 3D glasses should work. I have a passive 3D TV (LG OLED55C6P), and I use the cheap, plastic 3D glasses from the local movie theatre at home, and it works great.

QuestionI haven't taken the plunge and purchased a 4K TV yet cause it seems silly to make a substantial investment like that when the 1080 is still working..is it possible to connect this w/ the standard 1080 tv until it is time to move up to a 4k television?

QuestionDenon AVR supports 4K but not HDR. Do I sacrifice, HDR video or HD mstr audio. If I connect to tv, it will pass Dolby D 5.1 audio, via Optical digital cable . Don't know if it will pass HD mstr audio. Also. why would I need 2 HDMI outputs on 4K player?

- Answer Hi N3vino, this unit doesn't support digital optical cable, only digital coaxial cable. Also, one HDMI out is for video and audio while the other one is for audio only. - Answer Yes, the Sony UBP-X800 does support 3D video. However, you'll need a 3D TV and probably 3D glasses to enjoy 3D content in 3 dimensions. Sony's 2017 LED and OLED TV's don't support 3D any longer. UltraHD 4K HDR TV's produce an image superior to conventional 3D TV's without any need for head gear. Moreover, the Sony UBP-X800 plays 4K disks and displays the content in native mode 4K, not upscaled 4K resolution. You'll need this player if you wish to use your 4K TV to its fullest advantage. You'll also need an HDMI cable that supports 18 Gbps (which necessarily supports 3D, ARC, HDR10, and Dolby® Atmos and DTS:X among other things).

QuestionWhen playing regular blu ray movies I hit display button on dvd remote and it reads 4k output, but when I put in a 4k ultra dvd and hit display it reads 1080p/24. This is correct?

- Answer Mine did the same thing. My TV was 4k, but not HDR compatible. It upgrade blu rays to near 4k, but reverts to 1080p/24 with 4k HDR discs. Seems stupid, but regular blu rays play in better quality than 4k HDR movies. I took mine back since I already have a player that upgrades to near 4k.

QuestionMy blu-ray menu screen cuts in and out once I turn the "enhanced format on" to allow for HDR content. The HDR movies play just fine and the player's info screen shows that it is in 4K HDR. Anyone have any suggestions?

- Answer Hello- after I updated the software, I lost audio on hdmi as well. Plus, the home screen fades out intermittently. I'm hoping Sony expedites a fix asap, because I currently can't use it.
