Customers appreciate the ease of use, screen size, and long battery life of the 14" Chromebook. Many also praise its lightweight design and affordable price. However, some users have experienced issues with the keyboard and trackpad, and a few find the storage capacity to be limited. The performance is generally considered good, though some users wish for more memory.

This is IT. Ultimate hardware I ever hoped for.
You need to install the Gallium OS linux. First flash the BIOS ROM with mrchrombox RW_LEGACY. Then download and burn gallium OS braswell live latest image on to a flash drive. Then install the linux with the flash drive.

I had been a Windows user for years, but recently my Windows 8 laptop started having problems and I figured it would probably be cheaper to just replace it rather than find a shop to repair it. I refuse to go to the Windows 10, so my only choices were Chrome or Mac, and my budget didn't allow me to go to Mac, so Chromebook it was. I was a little hesitant since I'd never had any experience with the Chrome OS, but I have to say I am hooked! This is quite literally the most user friendly computer I have had. Straight from the box, sign on with my Google account and that's it. No set up/configuring at all (unless, of course, you want to change themes or make the print larger). Incredibly fast and has the look of a pricey laptop without the huge pricetag. I also love the HD screen with the anti-glare, which was always a problem on my previous laptop. And the battery life is fantastic! The *only* con that I have is the speakers are located on the bottom of the laptop (two on each side) and if you are listening to anything while holding the laptop on your lap, it's a muffled sound, so if you want to sit back and watch a movie or listen to music, it would be best to use headphones. But for me, that's a minor issue. Overall, I highly recommend this Chromebook to anyone who is looking to make the switch from Windows and wants a fast, simple system.

Good laptop but has a learning curve

First, I know this isn't a typical laptop with windows or mac installed. We purchased this for our 9 year old son so that he can watch Netflix and learn how to type. We love the built in app that teaches you to type. Since, he has learned how to install games like Minecraft or other games he likes. There is a big learning curve, but that is what makes it great in my opinion. Instead of figuring it out for him, we say, "Why don't you google that". The only detriment we see is that he will be in front of it the whole day if we're not careful, so we limit his time on it during the school year. I would recommend this to anyone that doesn't really need a hard drive. It's fast enough to do word processing, video streaming, and gaming.

I am very pleased with this purchase. I use a Mac book Pro at home but wanted a small and light laptop to take when I travel. I didn't want to spend $1200 on the new MacBook. Frankly, this was going to be an Internet appliance for me. I use Google docs and sheets for work stuff on the road so I don't need a full operating system. This laptop is extremely thin, has a great hi resolution screen, and the battery lasts me all day long. I love the keyboard and a large trackpad. Most of the cheaper chromebooks have 2 GB of memory and a 16 GB flash drive. This one has double those specs. I run a dozen or more tabs at once with no slow down. It boots extremely quickly. And if it's running and you close the laptop, when you open it again, it is running instantly.
Things that weren't deal breakers for me but might be for you…This model does not have a touchscreen and it is my understanding that it won't be compatible when android apps for chromebooks come out in the near future.

I really enjoy using this laptop as a leisure device. I have a Windows desktop for doing my heavy work but this works great for doing the petty things like paying bills, checking emails and other expected chromebook activities. I primarily got this because I don't like being stuck at my home desk and trying to plan vacation or improve finances on a phone or tablet is never as productive as with a keyboard and mousepad.
The build quality of this chromebook is top notch. The aluminum reminds me of an old macbook I've had though the keyboard doesn't have what I'd considered a good travel depth. I still occasionally hit the "Search" key since it is in place of the "caps lock" button from time to time. Other shortcuts that are not dedicated keys also make it a bit more enjoyable to use for productive tasks.
I wish this had an SD card slot for more memory but I'm OK using a USB drive instead.
The screen is great for a $300 price (not comparable to more expensive laptops though). Colors are slightly faded compared to the higher end laptops but it's only noticeable when you're making side-by-side comparisons.
Battery life is great as well which is another primary reason I purchased this.
Overall, this is an easy purchase if you need a computer with the expectations of a Chromebook capabilities. I have linked into my work account which accesses Windows 8 and I am able to use all those apps but there is a little lag and the font size is difficult to read at times but that's always adjustable.

First of all, you need to know that this is a Chromebook. Expect accordingly and you'll find it very good at being one.
It is very fast for general web browsing, even if you view quite a few complex websites at once. I have Ubuntu Linux installed via CHROOT and this Chromebook is surprisingly capable for my university coding needs, not to mention the entire world of possibility that comes with the actual Linux OS.
The all aluminum build is fantastic, the screen is crisp, and the track pad is better than any Windows track pad I've ever used, until it suddenly stopped working. It turns out to be a loose ribbon connector, all I've had to do is unscrew and pull out the bottom panel, re-seat the ribbon cable (the one with a blue tap in the center), then put everything back.
While I consider it to be easy to fix and maintain, I do recommend that you look for something else if you really care about build quality and reliability.
Overall, I'd say this Chromebook is well worth the price, especially comparing to Windows laptops of the same price, if you can find any to begin with.

Best Larger Chromebook for the Price

I tested this chromebook against the new HP Chomebook 13 G1, which costs roughly twice as much and found that I preferred the Acer. It's keyboard layout, touchpad, speed, and ports were superior. I own the smaller Asus Chromebook Flip and prefer that for traveling due to its smaller size and touchscreen, but I do now use my Acer Chromebook 14 as my daily driver at home and around town. I really like the all aluminum chassis and regular size HDMI port. Battery life has been superior to all other chrome devices I've owned or tested. The screen isn't spectacular, but very good for the price point. Speakers are very good with decent bass as well. For what you get for the price point, you can't go wrong with this device.

It really is lightweight and easy to manage. Obviously, my main concern was the speed and image quality. Overall, it's top-notch. Sometimes, when I have about 4 windows open and several tabs per window, it slows down a bit but so did my former dell laptop. Another concern I had was being offline and needing to write or use any of the Google docs, sheets, or drive. This wasn't a problem. I could still write and access them offline, just couldn't save or go into my drive. I could just leave it in the back and chromebook on sleep mode to access once I was online. One thing I did not read anywhere beforehand, or anticipate was the fact that flash and pdf occasionally doesn't work with some platforms. I was in the midst of moving from one job to another, so I had to access one pdf and one flash platform for my new job but couldn't using the chrome app. I had to download another version or something off the playstore which wasn't very good in terms of image and size. It got the job done, however. So just be careful in that sense. It only happened once so i'm not complaining. All in all, this is a great chromebook and substitute for a laptop if you're doing just the basics. I'm in marketing so occasionally I need to access photoshop etc. I found alternatives for this chromebook only (the larger screen and resolution), pixlr and i'm perfectly happy with it.

I bought this Chromebook three weeks ago. Had an issue with the display flickering and acting weird. Found that there is a flag in Chrome that should be disabled. After that, the display working flawlessly.
The only thing this Chromebook lacks is a backlit keyboard.
Fast (as a Celeron can be), perfect screen size, bright and vivid display, good sound, perfect for traveling.

The design is slim, almost monochromatic, and just a good weight to carry for class to class. The only issue I have is the mouse being a bit slow when using it. Other than that, pretty good laptop for students who are interested in docs, speed, and slimness.

This Chromebook is well built and you can immediately tell when you pick it up because it feels solid. We have 3 Mac Book Pro's, a desktop computer along with 3 iPad's in the house so I was looking for something inexpensive with a large screen and keyboard to surf the web. This laptop does this and more. The unit is fast, quite and the 1080 HD display is great! I originally purchased a Lenovo lap top and I returned it 2 days later as the fan was always cycling on and off and it was very slow. If you are expressly looking for a Chromebook, you can't go wrong with this one.

I work primarily in the Windows environment, using SQL Server/C#/TSQL and related Microsoft stuff. But I've always like the Chromebook idea. My prior 2 Chromebooks are primarily the easy-access and cheap machine around the house or office; not too expensive and good for some limited work. The Acer 14 is simply great. It's my always-on machine. Unlike earlier Chromebooks, the display is superb. WiFi - great. Keyboard - great. And it's fast. I use it at work. Great for Google Keep and MS onenote, which I rely on heavily. To my surprise, Zoho Assist program works on this Chromebook. I've always relied on GoToAssist for user support, but Assist on this Chromebook is fully functional. This is a fun, useful machine.

I use this Chromebook primarily for school work as a teacher. My district is more and more going toward using Google for all things technology, so when I needed a new computer, I gave Chromebooks a try. This Acer version is incredibly light with a very high resolution screen. The metal chassis is very durable, and the laptop has a MacBook feel (at least to me) at a fraction of the price. Font is small but adjustable, and the processor seems quick and effective as well. Great purchase!

I really like this. The big selling points are the resolution quality (as good as a higher end computer) and the big screen. Boot it up and you're on your way. It's thin and light and uses power efficiently.
I demand a lot from my chromebook and it gets bogged down sometimes; but it is not bad and is great for what I need it for. I have a MacBook Pro, and I find myself using this as my go to laptop.
If you are willing to forego a touch screen and a 2-in-1 factor, this is a no-brainer. And if it's on sale, all the better.

I did heavy research before i bought a chromebook. I found out even though its not the cheapest and not the most expensive. It's High resolution 1080p Screen, 10+ Battery use (Dimmed light), fast internet connection, big scree, etc out weighs the cheaper chromebooks. I mainly use this laptop for online use (Trading currencies, studying for Project management courses, watching tv shows, netflix etc.) I highly recommend buying this if you do not want to pay over $300. I promise you wont be disappointed. I'm not.

This Chromebook meets all expectations. Fast, sleek, lightweight and sharp. Turned it on, and all my bookmarks popped right up. Great screen resolution. Keyboard drawbacks: no back light or caps lock
