    Excellent piece of equiptment

I have an iPad, iPhone, and full theater surround theater system with logitech harmony remote to operate it all. The installation was EASY! I was able to connect everything and it all works seamlessly. If you are an apple or tech junkie like me, this is a must. The video streams from iPad and iPod devices with good quality on my 65" HDTV. Netflix runs at a higher quality than the streamed iTunes videos. The digital copy movies that have been imported to my devices streams beautifully too. It seems that is awfully close to the blu-ray quality I get from my PS3. I HIGHLY recommend this piece of equiptment for you home theater system.

Pure Magic! How did I live without this device...

This inexpensive device brought our stereo system to life... We had put together an impressive 7:1 system all Pioneer Elite with 8 Cerwin Vega professional speakers and only used it for TV and movies because we were to lazy to get up and down and keep shuffling the CD's. Apple TV changed all that, now we stream all our MP3's from our iPads, iPhones, iTouchs, Computers wirelessly to Apple TV which is connected with an HDMI cable right into the receiver. Awesome music all the time now and great for You Tube, Spotify, Pandora, Last.FM, Rhapsody and all the other music services. Forget all the other great features like renting new release movies and TV series. This is a must have device if you have a nice entertainment system you want to wake up... ☮

Wireless iTunes Library and so much more...

If your media is already in iTunes then you will have no problem using the Apple TV. For all of the other functions you will need a high-speed internet connection. Even a relatively fast DSL line (3mb Up / 1 mb Down) will not be enough to keep you from waiting for a HD video to load before playing. The Apple TV defaults Youtube to HD as well as many podcasts. If your favorite podcast is offered in a (Large) or even (Small) format and you don't have a high speed connection, I would suggest selecting that version instead of HD, unless you like sitting and waiting. After upgrading to a high-speed cable connection the Apple TV has been even more enjoyable. Sharing on iTunes was a piece of cake and being able to push content from my iPhone or iPad has also been easy. Download the 'Remote' app to control the Apple TV from your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad so you can use the keyboard to search items and control the Apple TV. Vimeo was a welcome addition.

    Better value than it seems

I was torn on getting this since I have PS3 and an Xbox that can stream content, but what many reviews miss is that it can stream your itunes to your home theater. My Denon systems has ipod docking, but that dock is $99-$200. So for that same $99 you can basically dock all your music to your home theater wirelessly. Sold.

    Great for everyone

This is one of those things that you do not really NEED but just WANT! It is great for showing pictures from the iPad or iPhone. Especially with iCloud and Photo Stream because every picture/video you took, you can share from either device. It has HD menu's and looks clear. I wish you could put other apps on it for other things like streaming internet music. It is slightly redundant in the sense that you can buy movies on it (from your iTunes account) if you already have a cable or satellite like DirecTv, BUT you can always watch over and over though, as opposed to only for a few weeks on cable/satellite. I do wish it had a better remote in the sense that it is infrared and not Bluetooth. It cannot be hidden because you have to DIRECTLY point the remote to the front. It may be Energy Star efficient but to use any of your music you have to have your computer on and iTunes opened up. I know it makes sense but if you use it a lot then you pretty much have to have your computer on ALL the time.

This is a tiny unit that packs a huge punch....great features, easy to use and works great especially if you have other apple products (iPhone, iPad, Macs etc)...they all communicate and share your pics, music, videos to any TV this is plugged into...Movies download fast and never freeze up either!

    With Apple, you buy easy!

This product couldn't have been simpler to install. It connected quickly and easily in to my Yamaha receiver and minutes, I was up and running on my wireless network (powered by an Apple Time Machine). Keep in mind, you will likely need a cable to connect this beautiful little box to your audio/TV set up, and I recommend an HDMI for best quality. You can wire the Apple TV in to your network with an Ethernet, or simply connect to your Wifi network. The first time you connect, it will walk you through the steps and it was quick and easy. Being able to mirror my iPad 2 is a huge selling point because a few of us gathered around the HDTV can watch whats happening on the iPad's screen. Streaming internet radio, accessing movies in my iTunes library on my iMac upstairs, or just playing music through the house, I love this device and what it does! For $100, this has been a great investment and I would highly recommend it!

    Good, not Great

I bought the new ATV as an upgrade from my old one, which I loved. The main reason I wanted to upgrade was for Airplay - as the rest of the functionality appeared pretty similar to the original. After using the device for a few weeks, I'm not sure yet if I really "upgraded". Here's why: Airplay is a great concept, but is still a bit flawed in execution. The biggest negative is the signal cuts out occasionally while streaming - a common bug you'll find if you do a Google Search. I wanted Airplay so I could play and control Pandora from my iPhone through my ATV, and about 90% of the time it works great. But, hearing audio cut out for a few seconds ever couple of minutes gets frustrating. Beyond that, Airplay is pretty limited right now. Hopefully more functionality is coming, but as of now it's largely audio only except for YouTube (which is already on the device) and pictures - which is kinda nice. You CAN'T stream videos shot from your iPhone - a horrible oversight - and you can't stream video from websites. Beyond Airplay, I can't find many benefts over the old AppleTV. Unlike the original, you have to have iTunes running on a PC in your network in order to access your local content. Accessing files can take a few seconds to "update the list" - even on a high speed wired network. The local hard drive in the original had no lag. HDMI output only is far more limiting than the component video / analog audio options on the original. Netflix is nice, but every product has Netflix in it these days - and frankly their streaming options are still ridiculously limited (good for kids movies though). Overall, I still like the product a lot, but the ideal version would have been simply adding AirPlay capability to the original. The rest of the tradeoffs are a bit of a bummer.

    Apple TV Works Well

    Posted .

I've been very happy with the Apple TV product. I've been using it with Netflix and that works well. It also works well viewing my photographs and home videos using home sharing with a Windows 7 PC through iTunes. Wish it would handle more types of videos, including recorded TV. I've also tried it out with an iPad including the mirroring, remote, and air sharing features. They also work very well, although I don't use those features much. Recently I rented a full length movie through Apple to view on the Apple TV. I set it up for standard definition since my internet connection is not that fast. I was really impressed with the clarity and smoothness of the movie. It was better than Netflix. Netflix is sometimes choppy.

purchased GoogleTV for more but that was piece of junk. returned it and got this AppleTV. They had to find one for me but for 1/3 of the price, it does so much more and it took me less than 3 minutes to set up. (vs 4 hours with GoogleTV)

    Great for kids

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

My wife and I needed to find a way to save the kid's dvd collection from themselves. This was a good fit. After running the jailbreak on it and installing a third party media player I was able to rip my kids dvds so that we could stream them to the apple tv. This way we can still keep the movies around for use in the car and have it available for them to watch without them scratching it. There is a bit of a learning curve with accessing all the apps on it but not too hard to learn, as is the case with most apple products. The streaming services on it seem to work well wirelessly. All and all it is a great product for a kids tv or a bedroom tv. Downfalls to it are that it is only able output at a max of 720p, the remote is IR so you need line of sight to use it, and the there is no way to stream network media without having a computer running itunes on it(unless you jailbreak it).

Pays for itself in a month

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I decided to go with Apple TV, Netflix and Hulu rather than pay over a hundred bucks a month for Cable. So far, I have missed out on very little that I'm interested in. The very first month my bill from cable company was only for phone/internet and I'd saved that much money. The device works easily, one of the unexpected benefits was the ability to stream photos while listening to music, or during a paused movie. Many of us have thousands of photos which never are seen, particularly in a group environment, it's great to discuss these experiences again and relive them. The only reason I haven't given this 5 stars is that Apple TV does not have many of the apps that most new DVD/Blu-Ray players have, such as Hulu. They do have Netflix, and the major sports channels, but that's it. I recommend this for people who want to reorganize their life and their budget, particularly those who have made a large investment in digital videos.

    Good Product

Not much to say really...its an Apple TV. It does what you think it does. I have it set up in my bedroom and use it for the iTunes content, but mostly to access my music and movie library on my Mac Mini. It is very reliable. The only drawback is that if my Mac Mini is sleeping, the Apple TV has trouble waking it up on its own. I usually have to make sure my Mac isn't in sleep mode to use it quickly This isn't usually a problem unless I want to use it when waking up in the morning. I could fix it by having my Mac never go into sleep mode but do not want to lose that functionality. If all else fails I have to turn Home Sharing off then on again. The above isn't a big deal and I still love the product. It streams my media library quickly and the interface is so simple to use. I love the way it shows the artwork from the movies and music. Let me put it this way, if it broke tomorrow I would go right out and buy another...

    I love this video streamer

I think this is a wonder video streamer, easy to setup and I have had two updated already. I love the size and if I want to take it with me it's very easy to transport. I could go on and on about the Apple Tv video streamer but I think the quality, ease of set up and use plus the features makes it a winner in my book. I bought the Roku first ( see my review when the system posts it, Written 3-24-11 ) it was a poorly planned setup (credit card required before use) I took it back for a refund.

I purchased the Apple TV about 2 weeks ago after a massive amount of research and decision making. So far 'm loving it. It's extremely small and wireless. Right now I'm using it with the TV in my bedroom and although the wireless router is in my livingroom, I haven't had any issues with buffering or slow connection. I'm constantly uploading movies to my itunes to watch while just laying in bed. No need for a bulky BluRay player taking up space. I also enjoy being able to listen to my Itunes through the TV while I'm cleaning up or just laying down. My only wish, as of now, would be the ability to access my Hulu and Pandora accounts. But other than that, APPLE YOU ROCK!

Very easy to set up, and I have all the functionality of itunes on my TV. I use the apple remote app and get even better experience. I could go on and on but you can look on the Apple web site for yourself. My wife loves it so much she wants one for the bedroom as well. Apple didn't reinvent the wheel, but they sure put some high performance tires on it!

    An Apple a day...

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I remember when the first Apple TV was introduced. It was this cumbersome silver box. Now it is this sexy, sleek, little black box that is virtually invisible. It is very easy to install, easy to navigate. I haven't gotten around to syncing it with my computer to display photos on the screensaver, but it will happen. There's a plethora of radio stations to listen to. I noticed a lot of French stations playing American music. The downside is it takes a long time to load Youtube videos. Typing in searches takes a little getting used to, but you can use your iPad or iPhone as a keypad to type in searches. Overall, it is a great price with ease of use.

Very happy with the product. i have already purchased it as a gift for other loved ones. It especially works well when subcribing to Netflix for movie watching. From what i hear, it is only a matter of time before the software upgrade will allow you to view a mirror image of your computer desktop on your television which in my opinion was the only thing on my wish list. Leave it to Apple to know what i want before i want it. You can NEVER go wrong with an apple product.

APPLE TV - SIMPLY, THE BEST OF THE BEST

100% dependable, no-fuss means of sharing your iTunes library to any HDTV Very large buffer means perfect, no-drop-out signal even in the slowest WIFI set-up Works equally well between Mac and PC Light years ahead of Google TV (which I also own X 3). I use 3) Apple TV's, source from the same computer on different HDTV's. Each can display a different movie, photo stream or music simultaneously, as the other Apple TV's. All 3 can even watch the same movie at different parts within the movie at the same time! Slickest Netflix Interface, too! Low cost device. Fully controllable by any iPhone or iPod Touch running the free ap: "REMOTE".

I LOVE APPLE TV! I use it primarily for streaming netflix, connecting to my computer and listening to music and viewing my pictures. It is extremely simple to setup and even more so to use. I especially like how I can connect it to my iPhone 4S and iPad and mirror what I am doing, which is great for when I am showing multiple people documents and presentations. Overall I would highly recommend this to anyone.
