Okay mechanics, fresh characters, no story

The gameplay itself is okay fun but the singleplayer portion leaves a lot to be desired. I enjoy games that are more story-oriented and this only has a minor Grand Prix. I feel that Nintendo is focusing more on multiplayer games and wishes to capitalize on this by forcing players to spend money to play online ($20/year). I don't approve of this direction, and will only support more story-focuses games. Buy it if you plan to play online a lot; I cannot recommend otherwise until there is a significant price drop (down to $30).

I had high hopes for this game. I was hoping it would be a quirky Splatoon-like game for the fighting genre, but I really couldn't get into it. There's nothing glaringly wrong with it, it just didn't really grab me. If there was any barrier to entry, I guess it would be the controls. I'm lukewarm on the motion controls, and I didn't adjust to the regular controls very quickly. Still, if you wanted to put in the work to git gud, I think there's some fun to be had here.

My son wanted it because he saw someone playing it on youtube. Once he got it though, he played for about 2-3 days and hasn't touched it since. Pretty one dimensional for such a high priced punching game. I probably would not recommend and would return if I could. Waste.

My daughter had been wanting this game for awhile. She was thrilled when I told her I bought it. She then strapped on the Switch joy cons and began to punch wildly. It’s a very short game. She finished it in the time it took for me to make dinner. She likes it...I don’t. Wait till it’s on sale.

he game is fun when played with multiple people. There is not much for content, and it gets repetitive after a few matches. In the end, it is a fun game that was played a few times, but now it just sits there. I don't think it is worth $60, in my opinion it has about $30 worth of content, and low replayability.

My kids like this game in short intervals. It’s fun, but content is limited. It’s a bit gimmicky like the original Wii games with better graphics. I was deciding between this and Smash Brothers which is obviously very different. Wish I went with Smash.

The graphics, character design and overall gameplay are great (as is to be expected of a Nintendo IP), there's just not enough of it. As a multiplayer experience the game really shines, but don't go in expecting a robust single-player game beyond beating the grand prix mode a few times.

The game is pretty fun. I didn't use the motion controls for more than five minutes before switching to a Pro controller. Much better than motion. I do wish there was more to the game, though. Hopefully the free DLC beefs it up a bit!

The gameplay is enjoyable for a bit, but not enough to get my money's worth playing this title. The matches are quick -- about 2-3 min each which is great for people on the go, but since it requires a network connection to play online, the quick matches don't seem to be such an incredible thing anymore. Also, if you want to play online, it seems like it's not great to use the two sticks of the switch to box, which was kinda the point. Though better than using two Wii-motes, the tech isn't perfect yet. Still, it's a fairly innocent game that feels like a colorful and successful successor of Wii Boxing included with the original Wii Sports game. Innocent, clean and fun for all.

A polished game, but lacking in content. It takes a few hours to get good at it, but by then, you've already seen everything it has to offer. The fun and challenge of fighting games comes from mastering each character. Unfortunately, there isn't enough to differentiate these characters. They all have the same fighting style. They have access to the same arms. It takes too long to earn currency, and you can't buy the arms you want. Additional modes, like volleyball and target practice, are awkward and hurt the flow of the game. First entries for a new IP are usually weak. I think this series has a future though.

The game is fun at first but I can see it will get boring not too long. It'd be a better buy if it were cheaper.

This game is very well-polished, as most of Nintendo's first party titles. The fighting mechanics seem simple, but I can see how someone could go much deeper into this fighting system if they wanted. However, the game was not a really good fit for me. I was expecting something really fun on the level of Mario Kart. What I got was a somewhat repetitive fighter when playing the single player mode. Perhaps the multi-player and other play modes can make up for this, but I may not have the patience to go through those with such little time to devote to gaming as it is.

The gameplay is solid but there is little content there, supposedly they are adding more though. 1v1 is the only worthwhile mode right now.

There is Online and it seems to have a pretty stable performance. Has a solid chunk of modes. If you have friends It's a blast. With lots of fun to be found. (Be sure to have controllers if so 2-4 friends at once) Otherwise It falls where a majority of party games land and It's a pretty solid time alone for a couple days. Definitely gets stale quickly and I'm pretty positive their not going to update it any time soon. I have no friends. :D

I purchased the game on a whim to have something fun to bring to a friendly gathering. The game allowed many ways to play, motion controls and traditional button mashing. Although the group I was with, including myself, couldn't really grab a hold of the gameplay mechanics right away, it did seem fun. We didn't pick up the flow by the end of the night. But we can tell there it will be a fun game to play once the gameplay mechanics are learned, with simplicity and depth available.

This is a great game to sit down and play with friends all on the same screen. The game can be played using motion, or just the joysticks. Playing solo online can get repetitive and isn't as much fun as playing with friends locally. If they find something more creative to add to the single player aspect of the game, I would increase my rating. I'd say this game is a better purchase if it were to go on sale, as I cannot completely recommend it at the current price.

Didn't blow me away, didn't hate it. Not a lot of content, and you can just flap your arms around and win. My two year old was running around with the controllers and beat her opponent without really even looking or know what was going on. There aren't very many playable characters or content. Not a rich package for a premium full-price. Not a lot of reason to replay, either. Too bad, because it looks nice, sounds nice, and has a promising premise.

Let me start by saying I really do enjoy this game. It's very fun especially with motion controls. That being said I don't feel like it's a 5-star game. It has potential to become something great. I think if Nintendo goes for ARMS 2 it could be amazing. However, for ARMS I feel like it's a fun 20-30 min game every other week. I enjoy it and don't regret my purchase, but I do not feel like this is a "must buy" purchase.

This was one of the first games I got for my Switch, and while it is in no way a terrible game, it does not hold my attention for long at all. It looks great, sounds great, and has unique controls, but still fails to keep me interested for longer than 20 minutes at a time. Buy it, but only if you have friends who will FOR SURE play with you. DO NOT BUY if you get frustrated easily and/or have nobody to play with.

For a game that was supposed to really show off the switches motion controls this is really a minor improvement on wii sports boxing. There just isn't much depth there and little if any advantage to using the motion controls over the analogue controls. I am a little disappointed. It is decent for breaking out a party and having people challenge each other, but isn't worth owning otherwise.
