This is a great gaming laptop for the money. It might not have some of the bells and whistles of the Alienware, but it has the performance where it matters. The video card rocks, it is allowing me to play games like Starcraft II, Witcher II and will be buying the new Bioshock and Witcher 3 for my laptop versus my XBox 360. I finally have a powerful laptop that can perform any work related task plus game like nobody business.

Short battery life but it is awesome. I use it for school for 3d modeling and it is great . The laptop is a little heavy but it's worth carry. Battery pack for the computer is a little bulky for carrying around in your book bag. The processor is lighting fast and great graphic . Window 8 takes a bit to get use to but great.

This is my first gaming computer ever and I LOVE it! When plugged in there is NO LAG whatsoever for any game I have played! (i.e., Skyrim, Minecraft, Assassin's Creed 3). On battery only, there is a slight lag on advanced games and the battery life goes faster than I had expected, but usually I can get a good hour on battery only. I would recommend getting a car charger if you plan to take it on longer trips (parents shouldn't mind - they may even forget you're in the car!). Touch pad is great but I use a wireless mouse for easier navigation. Highly recommend!

For a game computer not to be carried regularly its an excellent replacement for a desk top. One hour battery Excellent graphics Fast Large screen and carry bag needs to be a bit bigger than 15.4 due to the large battery.

No complaints about this machine. Asus made a laptop that can outperform most desktop PCs. And bonus for the duel cooling fans, doesn't get nearly as hot as previous laptops.

The sole purpose of this laptop for me is GAMING! Do not waste your money if you intend to use is strictly for school work or excel. Shave a grand off the price and that's what you should be spending for those purposes. You don't need to spend 1300$ to do your homework. This is part of Asus' "Republic of Gamers" series and it's a beast. I spent some time researching this and this and an Alien Ware machine that I stumbled upon and this unit won hands down based on reviews and specs combined with my budget. I wanted the next one up with the better graphics card but this works perfectly. I'm currently running Secret World, TOR and Guild Wars 2 on Ultra settings without a hitch. It' puts my old laptop and desktop to shame! The cooling system is insane. My old HP used to heat up my legs through my laptop tray. This thing can go for hours and it barley heats up as well as being extremely quiet. Great machine! Game on!

    Awesome Gaming PC

This Laptop has been great for the last few days since buying it. Screen is sharp and large enough glad I didn't go with the 17" version. It is great that it offers a full sized keyboard without having to get the next larger size, especially since the right hand shift key is normal size preventing me from accidently hitting the up arrow instead of shift. It has been running games with the video settings all on Ultra that my last laptop struggled to on low and medium. Once I get the SSD installed and max the RAM to 16GB this thing will be a beast (both are ordered already). Always been happy with ASUS Laptops and this is just another reason why I continue to buy this brand.

I've only had this laptop for one day, and I can say I'm VERY pleased with it. So far, I've tested Minecraft, Counter Strike: Source, and Garry's Mod. Minecraft generated in a jungle biome, and loaded instantly, running a solid 110fps on all high settings. CS:S ran at a consistent 380-490fps on cs_office on all high settings. Garry's mod ran at around 280-320 consistently on high settings. So, the hardware will be able to handle pretty much any game at at least medium graphical settings! The biggest downside is that it's very bulky, and weighs a lot. I felt like I was going to drop it multiple times while trying to shove it into my carrying case, but if you don't plan to move around too much with it, this isn't really a downside. It's still more mobile than the ASUS G75VW, however. Also, it has Windows 8, which this is purely opinion, and this is more of a short review on Windows 8 than on this laptop, but it's AWFUL. I'm already considering getting a copy of Windows 7 and installing that instead, because Windows 8 is just a nightmare. It's fine for tablets, or touchscreen computers/laptops, but for this guy, it is horrendous. I've heard that lots of people say the speakers are awful, but I beg to differ. They sound great! The touch pad is very responsive as well. The screen is insanely high resolution, and to some this is good! My eyes are bad though, so the tiny text is a little hard for me to read. That's beside the point, however. Overall, this is a great powerhouse if you want to game on the go!

Great specifications, but had a lot of problems.

I bought a G55VW (worth $1400) at Best Buy in January. It was set up with Windows 8. When I started using it, Google Chrome sometimes crashed, at completely random times. It could run well for hours, it could crash several times in less than 5 minutes. Also, it could crash in many ways: the entire software would close, or only specific tabs would need to be reloaded, or just the flash applications would stop working. I figured it was a compatibility problem between the Operational System and Chrome, so I started using Internet Explorer instead, and the same kept happening! As I kept using it, the laptop kept showing several problems in all the softwares: they would just crash or stop answering. Needless to say, I lost a lot of work on that. Furthermore, after a while it started having some blue screens (at least once a day). Now, the problem REALLY begins. I contacted online support and they oriented me to reload the Operational System and re-do all the updates. It did NOT work. Then, I tried checking online in several Microsoft forums what to do, since I figured it was an OS problem. None of them worked. I had it shipped to ASUS. When you ship it, you have to explain the problem, and I made it CLEAR that "reloading the OS will NOT work, I tried that already". It took two weeks to come back. When I opened the package, the repair summary had one line, and it said that the repair performed was.......reloading the OS. I knew the result before turning it on, but I did anyway as a hopeful fool. It was NOT fixed. I had it shipped the second time, and the supervisor gave me an overnight shipping on the way there, since I had some urgency. Although he promised me that I would also get an overnight shipping on the way back, that did not happen. I didn't care so much about it because it took overall about one week to get it back, and the phone representatives said that the motherboard was replaced. I seriously figured it would be fixed. And during that process I had to call in everytime I wanted to check the status because the online system wasn't working. Also, I was NOT notified when it was finally shipped, I had to find out by myself on the phone. It was the second time it arrived and they allegedly "replaced" the motherboard. But it still wasn't fixed. Crashes were just as frequent. Sooooo, I call them and by this point anyone can understand how fed up I am. The supervisor apologized (as usual) for the problem and he stated "I will get you an overnight shipping on both ways this time, given that it is the third time you're having the problem and your urgency" (by that point, I would leave the country in two weeks). Now, it has been there all week getting "repaired" (probably just getting dust on it, since nothing gets fixed anyway). This time I also couldn't check the status online, so I have been calling. And I just asked to make sure if the shipping back will be overnight and they said a big and definite "NO". I would have to pay for it. I talked to over an hour with the supervisor and he still didn't yield. When I finally yielded and agreed to pay for it, he said someone else would have to contact me and it might not be in time to change the shipping from regular to overnight, since the unit might be shipped first. Overall: - One of their highest-end products is NOT functioning anywhere near acceptable. - The company keep trying to make me a fool stating my warranty does not cover a lot of what they are doing (I read the warranty terms, it DOES). - They could NOT get it fixed in two times, in a whole month that they have had it - I cannot work for a month now - I would NOT recommend this company's products even to my biggest enemy. Lack of respect and they don't give any value to customer's satisfaction.

      Hello Rodolfocm,

I am sorry that you have had issues with the laptop. I can completely understand the frustration of having to send the laptop back and forth between repairs. Usually when owning a laptop, there shouldn’t be many issues; unfortunately, this was not the case with your purchase.

With that said, please let me know directly if you need any more help with your laptop including system malfunctions, RMA updates etc, and I would be happy to assist you. My email is cl-mark@asus.com

      Best regards,
      Mark

Purchased from BestBuy.com. Within 30 minutes of start-up, it had crashed and restarted itself 5 times. I returned it to my local store for a no-hassle refund.

I apologize for the issues that you have encountered with your new laptop. A new computer usually takes a while to set-up and might restart itself a few times before getting everything right. Hopefully, this experience does not deter you from giving the model another chance. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at cl-tien@asus.com.
