Definitely not for a home office or any office

First off DONT PAY FULL PRICE FOR THIS PRINTER. I go this for $50 on a Black Friday sale. Anything $65 or under would be okay. This printer will not be great for Home office users or any office users. This printer prints really slow, both printing and copying. Secondly the printer chugs the ink. I barely hit 60 pages and I had to replace the cartridge. These weren’t photos, they were light graphics. I called brother and said it’s an out of pocket cost for me so they can’t help me. They wanted to do some testing and told me to buy the ink in order to fix the printer. That was it for brother! However this machine did have some nice features. It barely jammed, I expierenced about 3 jams over the course of 2 years and that was only because I tried printed duplex on card stock. There are many different page layouts when copying. Also using the web services was easy to use and understandable. Also many options to scan. I did not use fax so I cannot judge that. All in all if you are a student or someone who does occasional printing I would get it. I am not going to recommend this to a friend since it claims as a office printer but truly it can’t keep up to the needs.

Bought as a replacement for an old Canon. I was looking for a decent, budget priced printer, and it is just that. The Print quality is quite good, and it was pretty easy to connect it to my home wifi. And as I mentioned, about the only downside is the slow print speed. But for the price, I won't complain too much.

This appears to be a solid little printer. It was very slow, however, especially without the full drivers installed. It's doubly slow on ink-saver mode, slower than it should be compared to a 5 year old Brother I have. Be sure if you are using this printer with a computer for which the cd wasn't used to install drivers that you go online to install the full drivers, otherwise your printing options are much more limited. I'm rating this printer based on it's price category, which is about 20% higher in cost than what it was when I purchased it a month ago. I'm docking it a star because it is a printer for which Brother has begun using smart chips on the toner, meant to prevent (more appropriately interpreted "deter") customers from using generic toners. The EU created legislation about this, as it contributes to massive e-waste. As well, toner is incredibly and ridiculously expensive. A customer should be able to use whatever ink they desire just as we should be able to buy gas from whatever gas station we desire. Fortunately, this particular printer's chips are replaceable with generics out there that also have chips, but from what I found, you must first insert the Brother toner to get a read, and then use the generics, otherwise it doesn't seem to read the first time around (it needs a jump start, essentially, from my experience). Anyway, this is where printer companies make their money--not from the printer, but from the insanely priced toners. If you can get around the toner-chip issue, this printer will be paid for in savings through a 20.00 purchase of generic toners, if you get a decent brand. Maybe they're just as good as Brother, maybe they're not. But if you print a lot at home, they make great economic sense.

Bought this printer as a backup to my other Brother printer MFC-J5620 which is faster. I used the disc to load the drivers into my PC. This printer was super slow. I then deleted the driver program. I downloaded the full driver package from Brother and the printer works much faster. Still not as fast as my Brother MFC-J5620. But you get what you pay for as I bought this printer on the deal of the day for 39.99. All in all a good deal.

I bought this to use in my office at work. I mainly wanted it to use for scanning documents as I have to scan a lot. For scanning, it works great. It does work with Windows 10. It's OK for printing. The print quality isn't the greatest and it's a little loud and slow, but like I said, I mainly use it for scanning. It does have an auto document feeder which is a nice. For the price it's a decent printer. I got it on sale, but have seen it at an even lower price point which would be more in line with what I'd pay for it now that I own and use it.

I purchased this item specifically because I need double-sided scanning. The Best Buy website states this is a feature of the product but it is not. The print quality is good, it is relatively easy to set up, and the scan quality is fine. Ultimately, the machine is good for the price but be aware the Best Buy website doesn't appear to be a trustworthy source of information.

You can't beat the price on this printer and it does a serviceable job. It is relatively slow printing, but has a crisp image. The display wants you to make a selection every time you remove the paper tray, so if you are just replacing paper you will be prompted "Update tray settings". Just a little annoying.

Was not an easy setup. The firmware needed updating. The firmware update did not work. You have to download the full package (300+ MB) package if you don't have a dvd drive. Download it to windows and install the brothers software. Advise not to check the box for additional software. It was called Page### something. Worthless. You can try it. I did not like it. Once it is installed there are other apps you can chose to download from the printer software if needed. On my iPad I downloaded the Brothers app. This was a great help. Still figureing everything out. I would not hesitate to suggest the printer...but only to a computer savy person. Also for linux you have to download the deb or rpm for your machine. select the 2017 stuff. The larger deb was all I needed. Just sudo bash Whatever it was called and answer the questions. Also know ahead of time the url for the brother printer. The iPad app will tell you that. It will be 192.168.0.### ONLY enter a number that starts with 192.168... Thats the stuff at YOUR house (router)...Good price. Good on ink. Worth the trouble. I only gave it three stars because of the installation hassle.

As the title says, this is nothing special, it does what you’d expect from a printer of this price range. Have gotten a few firmware upgrades in the year I’ve owned this printer(haven’t noticed any differences). The printing speed is average to fairly fast depending on what you’re printing. The ink does seem to run out a little faster than average but that probably due to the fact that the price of the printer is so low you pay for it in ink replacement cartridges ;) Which are quite a pretty penny considering just the colored ones are almost $35 from brother themselves on Amazon(you can use the cheap $20 ones from knockoff brands on amazon just be warned you MIGHT end up with a big mess). Don’t ask ;) also, there are 2 of those to replace! You’ve been warned. Ha! Good printer though! It is easy to use and the WiFi printing is SO easy to setup!

I purchased this thinking it was a steal. Ha ha, jokes on me. The printer works, but it is extremely slow. Even slower when printing images. Dot matrix printers printed slightly faster than this machine. If time is not a factor, and looking for something very affordable then this maybe the perfect option.

This printer is satisfactory I am unimpressed with its speed and paper handling abilities. Price was in the same range as other simular products. Need to make a software option when you are out of color ink that you can still print B&W.

I have had many printers. This one is ok. Does print, scan, fax and copy. It is much smaller than my old printer which I like. It prints pretty quickly ONCE it starts up. It takes longer than I'd like for it to "wake up" when not used for a while. Also, it won't keep our wireless code in its memory. It will keep it only for about an hour. At that time I have to add the code again. I can come back 45 minutes later and it still remembers the code. If I wait 65 minutes it has forgotten it again. Very easy to add, just frustrating to have to do it over and over. I am satisfied with the quality of the prints and copies it makes. If you were going to use it wireless, I probably would not recommend it. If you were going to wire it to your computer, I would recommend it. Because most households have more than one computer or laptop sharing a printer, I have to go with not recommending it.

This printer makes very good quality prints, but the speed is not good. I've had a Brother 470 and an Epson 430, both of which were faster.

The printer was easy to set up but when I ran the color print test, I didn't get yellow. I ran it multiple times as it directs but while ultimately I got a very, very faint yellow, it ran out of ink after 4 tests. I called Best Buy who suggested that I return the printer to the store. After a brief discussion, he offered to send me a gift card so that I could buy ink. I found that acceptable and agreed. But, I never received the gift card. I called after several weeks and am now waiting for the again promised card. Everyone was very pleasant to deal with, we'll see. The printer was simple to use the couple of times I ran it and inexpensive but you'll have to buy ink immediately.

Well, I'll start with software, i have an older model 490CW on my network and after more than 5 years, it's still going strong, needed 2nd printer for kids. I spent waaaay too much time trying to setup as the same brother software is not compatible on my mac or pc. Finally, after 30 minutes, was able to setup connection to router. I then printed three color pages and wham, out of ink. I asked the best buy employee if that was normal and she stated that the ink that it comes with is a watered down version. Same size as refular purchased ink, but filled no more that to 10% capacity. Brother quality has gone down, big time. And pay no mind to pages per minute. A color page takes over a minute to print! Cheap!

It’s great. Compact. Easy to use. But I placed it and set it up on my desk, connected the ink cartridges inside, printed one TEST sheet of paper, worked great. then, I’ve been traveling back and forth. 9 months have passed since that first TEST paper. I come back and I turn on the printer to print something... and there NO INK in the cartridges it says. This printer hasn’t made a single copy! I am in the process of contacting Best Buy and Brother to see why it indicates no ink when no copies have been printed.
