MGM has recently re-released their Bond Blu-rays again in anticipation of the new film SPECTRE. I own the 2012 releases which despite different cover art are the same exact discs that had just been released so my review here should still be relevant. Initially released in 2008 the current master for Dr. No still holds up as a fresh way to watch the film being one of the earlier mastered in 4K releases. This was the first Bond film so don't mind the rough around the edges feel of it but being the earliest this is one of the films that presents Bond's world being the closest to Fleming's source material with all the charm and ruthlessness present in Connery's performance. While there are some significant changes from page to screen overall this adaptation is still very faithful and in some cases improves on a few things such as adding Professor Dent and seeing Doctor No's plan in action. Overall if you're buying these films individually and are wondering where to start the first one is usually a hit or miss choice to start but here I can say as long as you don't mind an aged film this is a sterling choice.

Dr. No is a fun and thoroughly enjoyable Bond flick that sets the stage for the films that have followed over the past 4 decades. Sean Connery sets the stage for his iconic turn as the legendary spy and delivers a performance that has defined James Bond for almost fifty years. MGM has done an excellent job of bringing this well aged movie to Blu-ray by delivering an exceptional restored version of the film. Video performance is better than expected with a surprisingly warm and detailed picture. The movie's 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio surround track also succeeds in updating an extremely limited sound track to full high definition glory. Supplements are nothing new, however, and any owner of the previous DVD edition of Dr. No will be in familiar territory. Despite the lack of fresh extras, Dr. No is a must own title for Bond fans and film fans in general. Dr. No comes highly recommended!

What more can you add to Ian Fleming's classic super-spy adventures when the first James Bond film stars Sean Connery as the indomitable 007 (the license to kill designation), the classically beautiful Ursula Andress in her first major film in the miniest-bikini and the arch-enemy of civilization, Dr. No as the super-villain. All set in the tropic lusciousness of the British West Indies. See where it all began.

The one that started it all. This a Bond film that I dont revisit as often as others but is still a very enjoyable watch. The transfer is great and i can only imagine what 4K with HDR would be like. Defintely recommended for Bond fans and classic movie lovers.

This entry film into he iconic Bond franchise will always be considered a classic. Sean Connery's debut as 007 is a tour de force. Joseph Wiseman's villan and Ursula Andress' Honey coupled with the Carribean locales makes this Bond film a must have. The Blu Ray versions crystal clear high def picture and csound adds so much to the already outstanding story and cinematography.

    A Not Very Promising Start

I was a bit disappointed. This first Bond film seems like only a dry run for the great ones to follow. I think the filmmakers saw this as one-shot deal and had no inkling of the possibilities that lay ahead (50 years of sequels??). The script doesn't have much sparkle, the pacing is dutiful and dull, and the storytelling is sometimes unclear. Sean Connery is not very interesting at this point; he seems to be doing his job while waiting for a better role in another film. Ursula Andress is very beautiful, but the filmmakers don't give her enough to do and the character she portrays is just not compelling. They had not invented the Bond woman yet! And this villain is no Goldfinger, exhibiting none of the delicious malevolence that should drive the story. The comparison with the later Bond films is really unfair, but I can't help it. For me, this film is of mostly historical interest, and not something I will view with pleasure over and over again. But for those who do enjoy Dr. No, they will happy to know this blu ray is a must-have. The film has been gloriously preserved and restored. The colors are rich and the soundtrack is pristine. The extras are a treat and deepens one's appreciation of the film (and its shortcomings).

I remember when I first saw this movie out on a date with friends, many years ago. I didn't think I was going to like it, but this movie turned me into a diehard James Bond fan. I love being able to add the older titles to my movie collection. Thanks, Best Buy for making them available.

The first Bond film sets the stage for the rest of the series, both good and bad. Classic of it's time and very well done. Some of the film's charms are it's humor and Bond's attitude. Both would be taken over the top later in the series (especially after Connery left.)

Sean Connery as Bond is ALWAYS the best! Throw in Ursula Andress collecting shells, a fire breathing "dragon" and some laughably bad make-up on Joseph Wiseman and you got a 007 movie. Of course all of these things factor into another great Bond film! Buy it!

We bought this movie as part of a present for my mother-in-law, who is stuck at home recovering from surgery. It's hard to go wrong with a classic James Bond movie! She really enjoyed it -- it has a good blend of action and humor.

Dr. No I think is especially important because it refers to Spectre, the criminal organization which of course now appears as the 24th Bond film title. Good story line and Connery at his choreographed, fake-fighting best!

Ive always thought that Sean Connery was one of the best James Bond. So when I saw Dr. No on blu ray I had to get it and the fact that it came with the free ticket to see Spectre it made It even more appealing.

Dr. No is the first film in the James Bond series. Most people don't know of it because James Bond didn't become popular until after From Russia with Love was released. It isn't the best bond movie, but a young Sean Connery makes this movie fun and a classic.
