I love my Opal 2. I felt like it was an extravagant purchase but finally decided I'm worth it. I set it up on the counter near the sink in my laundry room as I was worried about noise based upon other reviews. I don't find it very noisy. It makes some noise when it is making ice but I can't hear it from the kitchen that's next to the laundry room. The one mistake I made was not ordering the water filter before the ice maker. I used filtered water to set it up and promptly ordered the GE Opal water filter from Amazon. I followed the instructions for cleaning, which were simple. I wasn't sure if I should put the ice bin back in while running the cleaning cycle. First I tried it with it in, then ran the rinse water without. My conclusion is I'll be running the cleaning cycle without the ice bin and washing the ice in by hand in the sink. The whole cleaning process took me maybe 5 minutes. It took longer to find the bleach that I need to make a mixture of tsp. of bleach to 5 cups water than it did to clean. Simple, poor it into the section under the ice bin, hold in the cleaning button, let it run, unhook the drain hoses and let the water drain out, repeat with clean water to rinse, drain, and voila. Cleaning the ice bin and the water reservoir is just a matter of a quick hand wash in warm soapy water. As for ice, it makes great ice. It didn't take long to start making ice and within about an hour it had made enough to fill 2 Tervis cups. I like that the ice bin stays attached and tilts out for ice scooping. I also was pleased at the sturdiness of the ice bin. The icemaker does have a 1 year warranty but I bought the extra warranty from Best Buy because, well, like I said, this was an extravagant purchase. I want to be happily making ice for many years.

GE Opal 2.0 bought for a birthday present and it was a huge hit. The ice the machine makes is very good especially when you run filtered water through it and it is very chewable. Highly recommended if you don’t have a particular machine in mind or are in need of a larger quantity of ice in a short time

Bought this ice maker last month and I couldn’t be more happier. I use the ice everyday, it makes ice for continued use without having to press anything. It tells you when to add water, which is great. I love this so much and kept telling my son, he went out and bought one for himself.

Great ice machine very easy to use. It is really self contained all you do is fill with water.

We love having nugget ice readily available, stired in the clear compartment. The side unit for water storage is very beneficial. The machine lights up for an action, ,i.e. making uce, needs water, or needs cleaning.

If you love Sonic Ice this machine is for you. We love it. But I hate cleaning it every other month.

Great, for 14 MONTHS, good thing I purchased the extended warranty. Brought it in for repair due to Loud Screeching Noises (that seems to be a common thing). Best Buy states they can't get the part to repair it. They issued a store credit. WILL NOT BUY AGAIN. That said, absolutely loved the Ice this thing made. We cleaned it per the manual with bleach and purified bottled water and only used it with purified bottled water. Something this expensive should last longer than that! If we had not purchased the extended warranty, we'd of been quite unhappy. One thing of note, if the unit is deemed not repairable and you are issued store credit or a replacement, the original service plan/warranty that you purchase is not transferable to the new one your purchase to replace it. I purchased a 4 year extended warranty for about $70. If that warranty would of transferred to the replacement, I might of purchased another of this model. We'll miss the great ice this thing made. Perhaps GE Profile - Opal 3.0 will resolve the issues that 1.0 & 2.0 had/have

I've toyed with the idea of buying an ice maker for awhile mainly because I grew tired of the endless trips to the sink to fill our ice trays and mopping up the water that I spill onto the floor when transporting the trays to the freezer. Anyways, I opted for this model because of the nugget size ice that it makes. Ironically, I don't enjoy drinking water, but I love to chew on ice so to reduce the damage to my teeth I opted for this model. It is pricey, but so far we all love it. As soon as I unpacked it, and ran x2 cleaning cycles, I started making ice. The only negative aspect of this ice maker is it drips water everytime you open the tray. They provide a drip tray which is nice, but for the money, you would think their engineers could figure out how to reclaim the water rather then it just drip onto the tray. Otherwise, it's great ice maker.  

Love my Opal! I was really skeptical due to the reviews but as winter is coming and I was so tired of having to go out to get my ice, I decided to go ahead and get it. I have been watching it for a couple years now. It works great and I use it every other day. I just built up a supply and as it disappears I make more. I would suggest buying it locally and if you have a problem you don’t have to ship it back just go back to the store.

If you’ve made it far enough to look at a review of this product, I can tell you need this in your life. Besides the very minor drawbacks mine has run flawlessly and I’ve enjoyed having it in my kitchen. Ok the drawbacks real quick, the bucket isn’t refrigerated, ice melts constantly. You’ll need to use your scoop and “pick at it” every once in a while to get it producing again. Lastly, it’s warm. I have it in a corner with two sides closed off and it gets kinda warm behind it. Bear in mind and just be cognizant. Buy it, you’re gonna love it. P.S. Use cold refrigerated filtered water.

This thing is awesome! It’s replacing a three-year-old Opal 1.0. This 2.0 is a nice upgrade. It’s faster, quieter, and smarter than the original. It’s Wi-Fi vs the original’s Bluetooth and the app is much better and faster. The side tank is a must! Also a must? Distilled water!

We LOVE this thing...nugget ice is awesome and the machine works well.

This is just a fantastic appliance. If you are able to get this, then do. If you and your family like the “Good Ice,” do not hesitate. It’s been on constant rotation since Christmas Day. The app is a bit tricky but once you’ve got it connected to your home WiFi, you can schedule it to turn on and off. I have ours turning on at 3:00am and off at 8:30pm everyday. Ice all day long.

This ice machine is amazing and worth every penny. We use it every day. I love the pellet ice chips. Our family and friends love coming over and putting their drinks in a cup so they can have ice in it

Love this ice machine!!! So we actually have a refrigerator with built in ice and water that is super convenient… but I love this ice… it’s like the SON*C ice!!! Our whole family (5) uses this ice now and not the refrigerator ice!! It actually taste much better!! Also I will note I put off buying this for over 6mo-1yr bc I wasn’t sure I could justify spending this on an ice machine when I already had one in the refrigerator that worked fine!! So glad I decided to splurge and go ahead bc now I couldn’t live without it!!
