    Nope! For the price I expected better quality. Started making the most unbearable noise within 3 days. I mean screaming at us from the kitchen. I looked it up on YouTube and eventually everyone who owns it runs into this problem. Had to return it.

    It is loud and makes an awful rumbling noise. Ive had it for a little over a year, coincidentally when the warrenty expires, and it just crapped out completely. GE wants to charge me $120 just for them to come out and look at it, not including whatever they have to do to it. Do not buy this.

    Unit is constantly making squealing noises, so bad you have to unplug it. Then it works for a few days before it starts the cycle all over again. There is something not right for the super high cost. The ice is great but the process is annoying. Will probably have to exchange it soon and see if a new one acts any better.

    Broke within a year & a half

    I paid $600 for this ice machine and it broke a year and 4 months later. Apparently, it is common for this machine to only last a year and a half (google it). If you buy the machine, make sure you buy the warranty! It was nice while it lasted but I was so mad it was super expensive and didn’t even last 2 years. Manufacturer warranty is only a year.

    We’ve had this one year and less than a month when it failed. 1 year warranty and when we called the company for service we are told they don’t make spare parts for the machine to fix it. Awesome ice but I don’t want to spend $700+ a year to have it. Very disappointing.

    Don't buy one!

    So tired of paying ridiculous prices, for junk! Bought for wife at Christmas 2023. Only used distilled water, the inside of the machine looks new. No scaling, no build up. I set up the machine to only run a little in the morning, and a little in the evening. I thought using distilled water and limiting the run time would extend it's life. NOPE! It is one year and 4 months old, and now one of the cheese metal, or plastic gears in the machine has eaten itself. Just a few months out of warranty, how convenient. Since it is out of warranty, I'm sure it will cost as much to repair it, as it will to replace it. The refrigerator from my childhood home still works. My dead grandma's 40 year old Kirby vacuum has only had one repair, and a few cheap belts. General Eletric, founded by Thomas Edison in 1878, a 146yr old company that makes jet engines, and 'Brings Good Things To Life' according to their old add campaign. Yet you can't make a $600 countertop ice machine that lasts..... There is absolutely no way I'm replacing this thing. First one (before GE bought the company) made it about 5yrs. Not buying another one, and don't recommend it.

    A real noise maker

    I have had this ice maker for just over a month. It has been cleaned and descaled as per the instructions. I use the recommended distilled water for making ice. At about the 3 week mark it started to make a slight grinding noise. Fast forward and now it sounds like metal on metal screeching that is loud and irritating. I have descaled and cleaned until I am sick of it. Beginning to regret this purchase. Hopefully GE will make this right.

    I bought this in September 2024 , I cleaned it every two weeks . It quite working , so I took it back to Best Buy. I bought a 4 year warranty thinking that if it quit working it could get repaired there or exchange for a new one. Yes they gave me a new one , but had to buy a new warranty for it, so there went all that money for a warranty. Told me didn’t have one in stock, couldn’t ship it to me it would cost me one hundred dollars to ship it to me and I live one hour away from a Best Buy store. Very unhappy I had to pay for another warranty ice machine was only 6 months old. So FYI Best Buy warranty are not worth it for this ice machine!!!!!!

    This is our second unit and this time it’s leaking water all over the countertop will not stay out of defrost mode. I do not recommend.

      Thank you for reaching out and bringing this to our attention. We are sorry to hear that your unit is causing some concerns. We have found that your Opal Ice Maker Dispenser will defrost when it is needed. When your Opal needs defrosting, it may start to squeak as ice begins to build up around the mechanisms. The defrost cycle is automatic and usually takes about 10 to 20 minutes. This is a normal operation. What is not normal is if your Opal Ice Maker Dispenser is going into Defrost mode too frequently, for example, every day, or goes into Defrost but there are no audible sounds indicating that the auger is frozen. If this happens, it is highly likely the air vents are blocked. If airflow is constricted, the machine will not produce ice normally. We would suggest reviewing the troubleshooting tips for this in your use and care guide from the website here (page 14)-https://files.bbystatic.com/mED7N93%2BpNTmEdZE0ioIkg%3D%3D/Manual. If you find that after troubleshooting, you are still experiencing trouble then please review the warranty details at the same link (page 19). GE_Appliances

    Caution when buying open box excellent. Our arrived in very poor condition and was not worth keeping at $484. We called customer service and all they said is return to store and get new one but they couldn’t give me the price of what I paid for. So we bought the newest Opal model that was not open box.

    Spent $600 on what seemed to be the best of the best of countertop ice makers - it broke in roughly three weeks of use following the optimal recommendations in the owner’s manual and due to the fact its labeled as a disposable product it is not eligible for repair, replacement, or refund in my case

    SAVE THE PACKAGING

    Save the box and open it immediately to test whether or not the system works. You want to be able to return it if it's defective. I was so excited to purchase the Opal 2.0 (Black) with the XL side tank. It made 1 batch then constantly went into a defrost mode. Previously, I've bought two others as gifts. They worked fantastic. For as much as I paid, I expected better quality control. When the product works, I would recommend it.

    Poor design and low quality - Don’t Recommend

    This is the worst ice maker & so disappointing considering the high price. It drips water every time it’s opened. It doesn’t continue making ice overnight or when not used so in the morning there is maybe 1/2 to 3/4 ice in bin & we barely have enough for 2 cups to be filled. The water reservoir has to be filled daily. We are returning this as it is not useful & is actually quite annoying to use with the dripping water.

    I reeeaaally wanted to love this ice maker. After 3 years of buying TWO units back to back (first unit broke) I just can't recommend this unit. Constantly trouble shooting, weird grinding noises, not making ice, unit overheating, constantly cleanings, etc. It's just not worth the headache anymore. Moving on to a different brand!

    Very bad product good concept

    Do not buy. I have gone through at least seven of these machines. When the first one broke they send me a refurb. After that they said they were going to send me new ones which were not the case. Each machine would last maybe a week or two without screaming like a banshee. Some right out of the box would start making noise do not buy this product. The last machine I put in a box put on my front porch and try to have them pick it up because I was tired of driving to the UPS place and doing it myself

    Before it started making a horrific squealing noise it was amazing. about a year or so of use, it squeals horribly. i have tried multiple cleanings and i have to take it apart to try to fix it.

      We recommend cleaning and removing mineral deposits in your unit, as described on pages 7-9 of the Owner’s Manual. The Owner’s Manual can be viewed on the Best Buy product page, under the Features tab.     No parts or shop available when it breaks

    Does not have replacement parts that you can purchase.does not have a shop it can be fixed at.only solution if it breaks after warranty period is to buy another one just to be in the same situation.
