When it is at its prime the ice production is fabulous and quick. However, if our when the machine malfunctions it makes a squealing noise that is annoying to say the least. For the price you pay you'd expect for the machine to work for the long haul. The price point is on par with that of a deep freezer basic fridge. I need more bang for my buck. It is absolutely beautiful though.

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had to take the first one back because it stopped making ice and the read out said “add water” even though it was full of water. The machine made a lot of loud strange noises. I guess if the second one we get makes the same noises , I’d say to folks don’t buy unless you have another room to keep it in when in use. Definitely too large for kitchen counter or small bar area. I keep mine in laundry room. As far as the ice it produces, it is great!!! It is totally addictive and I found myself everyday using the ice machine over refrigerator ice…. If this second one we get stops working, I guess we will return to Best Buy and call it quits….

Problems after 2 weeks

After two weeks of use, started getting an error - Add Water. Although the water tank was full, this error persisted. Online searches show purchasers dismantling their unit to correct. We removed the official, relatively expensive GE recommended compatible water filter that we installed, and replaced it with the strainer that comes with the unit. Seems to work ok now - hoping it stays that way. Intentionally, we did not purchase a cheap after market filter and as such did not expect any issues. Maybe we got a bad filter? Pretty disappointing though, this pellet ice machine is an expensive unit.

It never fills with ice like the photo displayed, it is maybe half full at any given time. Other ice machines I have used in the past worked better and were less expensive. Look at others before jumping to this one just because everyone says they are great. In my opinion they are just OK.

Posted .The Opal unit will start making ice in 15-30 minutes. It will continue to make ice until the bin is full, or it runs out of water. To continue making ice, just add more water. You can read more about this on page 10 of the Use and Care Manual, which can be found on this product page in the "Features" section.
Wish it was bigger

I got the XL tank but unfortunately the compartment is small. If we have a party it’s only good for a few drinks and then we have to wait until more ice is made. I had to buy 10bs ice bags from Amazon, I fill 2 and keep them in the freezer if I have a larger group. I never set up the app, I don’t use the ice maker daily.
