Great Game HORRIBLE Matchmaking

Gears of War 2... The campaign is good as expected. The co-op abilities to do in this game are also incredible. Horde is a great new multiplayer adition and is fun to do with a friend or friends online, however, don't get me started on the Matchmaking. It was a great idea to try and eliminate host advantage and this is what is being created. I am writing this review and trying to search for a game. Ive been waiting for a good 20 minutes now and i have flawless internet capability. I know im waiting way too long if my xbox has gone idol and my controller even turned off. Never had trouble in the past. This seems to be going on for everyone. I finally made it into a game last night as everyone had a sigh of relief that we finally could get a game started. I asked if everyone was having this problem and everyone of them said that they were. It took me 45 minutes to get into a game. I watched a whole family episode and came back still searching for a game. So if your buying this game for internet purposes... you might want to wait until something gets solved because it'll just upset you trying to get in a game.

GET THIS GAME!!

It's the best $65.00 I've spent in sometime. I own all consoles (XB360,Ps3,Wii) So I have a great idea what games are duds and what games just define what the console stands for overall. THIS GAME defines the XB360 and makes it stand out above all the rest. I don't like having to pay to get online but hey, you get what u pay for, one heck of a great game. I'm very pleased to have this game. I do have a PC as well and it is a Q6600 Quad Core Intel, but I cheaped out on the graphics card, I have my old x700 ATI PCI-E 1.0 (Lame, I know) I'm planning on saving for a ati 3870x2 (DUAL CORE GPU) with 2 gigs of blazing 4.1 Shaded graphics. But anyways back to Gears, This game blew me away at how well this game pulls the story together so well. Most Next gen games are all Graphics no story (usually) But this is the gem of a game your looking for. Get it right now. Go click buy right now GET IT!!!!! Get all ur Buddies to buy this game and PLAY IT, its awesome!! 10 stars simply Game of the Year!! I recommend this to anyone that has ever played any console. or any game for that matter.

This game is really great. Campaign is real fun and can change the difficulty. the multiplayer is really fun but they have to fix some things. The chainsaw is really cheap and when you shoot someone while they have their chainsaw reved i hardly ever makes them lower it so it can be very annoying

the trailer looks amazing. all new ways to kill an enemy. the graphics are redesigned and are better. hope they take more about the story. and have more levels. co-op should go better. hope the guns are newer to. looks like it is going to be a platinum hit. pre-order will be the best idea

GW1 Expansion but worth owning; good replay value

This is basically an add-on to GW1 but don't let that stop you. GW1 was/is a great game. The weapons additions are not extensive but worth it; flame thrower has it's uses but I don't keep it in my inventory. The storyline holds better and it really gets into the characters; this one really has you feeling impending doom as the story goes. Some difficulties with getting character to post up on cover which doesn't happen on my system with GW1. The main reason I can not give GW2 5 stars is simple. Too much like arcade. I buy and play 1st person shooters becaue I want the combat, shooting, strategizing, and wooping up on the enemy. Both GW games have way, way too much arcade style play (such as jumping through craching teeth while in the belly of the worm. Really distracts from the game and the combat experience and there is way to much of it, more than in GW1.
If I had rented the game first, I still would have purchased it at reg. price.

Excellent follow-up

Gears of War 2 is a superb follow up to Gears of War. The original was a great game, and this sequel surpasses it in most every way.
The detail of the graphics is excellent. It's not a stretch to say that Epic is pushing the limit of what developers can do with the 360 right now. Sound design has been improved from the original game, and is very pleasing. The story is well written, and fun to play through. The Gears of War universe has a neat story, and it's nice to see that Epic finally decided to start telling it, since the first game didn't score well in the story department.
The new co-op multiplayer Horde mode is probably the best achievement the game has made. It's a ton of fun to fight wave after wave of increasingly difficult enemies. You quickly find out how good you and your friends are at the game when you start playing Horde mode.
I would definitely recommend the game to anyone looking for a great action-shooter.

This game is truly the only game you need. I am so hooked on it I have to play it every night. Since the new ranking system went in effect I can't get enough experience points. This is the best multiplayer game to date in my opinion. I love Shadowrun and Halo but it just don't measure up to Gears. The gameplay, controls, maps, weapons, graphics and anything I forgot to mention totally rock. If you don't own this game please give it a try to see what next gen gaming is all about.

This is an outstanding game that is worth your hard earned money. The fun in Horde mode that you cam have with your friends is limitless. The intensity of the fight scenes and horde waves will have you on the edge of your seat. The graphics and environments are amazing and will cause jaw drops.
Epic's only shortfall was the two idiots you must babysit at times. The Friendly AI fustrated my friend and me as we had to split up with Baird and Cole a few times, which caused us some unnecessary deaths. The only other fustrating issue is the sometimes glitchy cover system. I found myself without sanctuary a few times on insane as my character fumbled around rolling into cover than actually taking cover.
Other than a few minor things this game delivered the goods. I can't wait until ACT 3. I will again be in line at midnight for the release.

This game is most definately better than the first and that is no small feet. I have bought other shooter games that have just came out and none compare to gears except maybe resistance fall of man 2 and an older game call of deuty 4. The graphics are better than one, not by much but noticible. the cover system was really fixed so their is less chance of going from cover to cover when your actualy trying to get out of cover or simply run. the new weapons are incredible and the overall lenth of the game is acceptable and I say that because as a gears fan I did not realy want it to end. I also think that the last boss battle should have been a little more difficult but it was still very hot. And yes I am going for the 2.0 achievment,l 200,000 kills. This a great addition to the gears franchise.

Well here comes the best reborn. I honestly do not know how you can write a review of a gam that hasn't even come out yet but oh well.... Like all the new modes and ideas, different finish moves, new weapons and finaly some more story behind. Also music finaly feels like it is movie (what I missed most in first gears story). But honestly as great as Gears is the amount of glitches (you can get out of any map, roadie runs, weapon slides, etc) is unsurpassed.I just hope it won't turn out the same way with GoW2. They promise stars and they forget about the spaceship. By the way we already know about host advantage and that this game will be the most played online for some time so wtf happened to dedicated servers, anyone?? 1 star down for that...

I Bought Gears of War 2 on friday the day that it came out. I have not let go of that game since it was simply the most impressive game i have ever played.
The story takes place 6 months later following Marcus and Dom to find Dom's wife Maria while trying to stop the war between humans and locusts. Story = FANTASTIC! theres so many good plot points and the game will want u begging for more.
Multiplayer - One aspect alone....horde mode. That is the most significantly fun thing in Gears of War 2 in my opinion. Once u get done beating the story like 12412412412 times then u can have fun and chill with friends playing horde mode its really great.
All in all i think they should have made this game more than 60$ cause its so freaking epic! Best game ive played in years.

I bought the Limited Edition version of the game the same day it was released and I definitely recommend buying this version than the standard version. You get extra maps, a 48 hour gold membership trial if you don't already have it, and a gold lancer that makes chainsawing your opponents online with style!! The storyline is great, and their are newer and much tougher enemies now. There are new weapons in the game, but nothing still compares to taking out a grub with a headshot from the sniper rifle, or cutting them down with the chainsaw!!! Although COD: World at War will be coming out soon, it will be tough to outdo GOW2!! GOW2 could most likely win another Game of the Year award!! Buy the game, and good hunting!!!!

Time to Get Your Chainsaw Wet!!!

The wait is over. For two years, we finally have a copy of Gears of War 2 in our hands. Time to get my chainsaw wet!
The many cinematics in GoW2 are amazing. I have always liked art that depicts humanity of the brink of extinction, colors of dark grays, the blacks and some white hues. The visual aspect of the game gives the player a feeling of humanity's desperation for survival.
The introduction cinematic narrates the story from the first Gears of War. And now, the Locusts have been re-building and are ready to finally rid the human infestation.
After the cinematic, you can either choose 'Training' or 'Skip Training'. This is your call. If you have played the first GoW, then what more can you learn now, that you haven't learned already. Right? Now, if you are a noob to the GoW saga, then by all means, please take the 'Training' path. Here you will meet the newest gear of Delta Squad, Ben Carmine.
Marcus is back, along with Dom. And each have his reason for returning to the fight. The characters are fully fleshed out. As you play in the campaign, you find sentiment in your heart for each gear in Delta squad. EPIC really out-did themselves.
The original weapons are back, some have been tweaked. Also, what's a sequel without new weapons? The flamethrower is new...seems to be a popular weapon in another game. The mortar is an awesome weapon. The mortar will bring a rain of death for whomever is unable to find cover. The mulcher, the name is awesome, is a minigun. Go out there with this weapon and it's time to do some landscaping.
With new weapons, new types of enemies are always right behind. The Kantus are a gangly priest class of Locusts who can resurrect fallen locusts without being near to them, so, obviously, you have to take them out before tackling a Locust horde. Big ol'Locusts called Butchers are a sight. They remind me of the Boomers, but along with the Butchers, there are other variations of the Boomers. The Wretches have a new toy, the Tickers, walking landmines...oh joy! Since you killed off General Raam in the first GoW, there is a new sheriff in town. He, or it, goes by the name of Skorge. One word of caution, just watch out for his dual-chainsaw staff.
The controls are still the same. Basic moves are untouched, but now, EPIC has added a nice killing touch with the 'Curb Stomp'. Gamers, first and third-person shooters, you got to have love for the 'Curb Stomp.' It breaks my heart to hear a teammate gripe when a locust dies just before my teammate can perform the 'Curb Stomp.' Such violence in us...heh. Oh well! At least there is the 'Meat Shield.' For obvious reasons, you can't run with a dead body as a shield. You have your 'Meat Shield' by the throat, pistol cocked, and strolling out into the open. Bullets whizzing by, hitting your temporary locust accessory, and you pop off a few rounds into the enemies. What better way to enjoy a shooter?
The replay value of GoW2 is in the multiplayer. Horde Mode is awesome. Just sheer Locust shootings. Wave after wave after wave of Locusts. You ran out of ammo? Well, too bad, better find a replacement, and quickly, if you want to keep the team alive. In fact, forget the campaign, just jump right into a Horde match and have some gruesome Locust fun! The competitive matches are back. Your team versus their team. Not much different from the first.
All in all, I love Gears of War 2! Need I say more? If you have a 360, then buy Gears of War 2...now! If you loved the first GoW, then buy Gears of War 2...which you probably have already done. If, you like shooters and have not played the first GoW...shame shame, then you must buy Gears of War 2...NOW!

Man, I hate it when developers give in to the whining of all the people who suck at their game. I love Gears of War. I do. The setting, the graphics, the gore, the co-op, the innovation, it's great. I used to play the first one online all the time. I really enjoyed playing a smaller scale, more tactical online shooter with a good cover system and unique weapons. However it seems Epic gave in to all the people who hated their game because the second one feels broken. Forget the tight tactical gameplay. Online matches consist of laggy glitchy Call of Duty-like skirmishes where you spend half your time on the ground because everyone, and I mean everyone abuses the smoke grenades. It's ridiculous. In Gears 1 it took a lot of skill and a little luck to get kills. Gears 2 has taken the noob-friendly Call of Duty approach and made a chaotic, no skill needed killfest that just isn't any fun. I wanted to go back to the first one like most of the hardcore Gears fanbase has. Now, the campaign and co-op blew me away. Very well done. And horde is a blast to play with a few good friends. But Epic took my favorite online Xbox 360 game and ruined it. So I rate this game 3 stars.

I just got it and from the start the graphics were amazing and I noticed it was a little better. but it is basically the same way of shooting and everything. The cool new things are u can drag ur self when u get shot and ur hurt. the guns are sweet. the monsters are just amazing along with the graphics. Its just a mine blowing game. I think it is just a lot more fun than gears of war 1. The co op is the way to go, play with some one and its a lot funner. There are just so many futuristic things u do in it. Just buy it and play it with a friend!!!

For many of you who have played the original Gears of War you know that glitching was a problem in multiplayer. It has gotten worse in Gears 2. The ranking system is flawed for multiplayer as well. Matchmaking is much better since being patched. I dont know exactly how they choose a host but lag has been a major issue for ranked matches. Campiagn could be a little harder but I am glad that it was a little longer storyline. Overall, this is a great game and I would recommend this to anyone over the age of 17. Please, no little kids.

Go away, you have absolutly NO idea what you're talking about. XBox 360 is the f****** system, not a game.
I am so pumped for this game, and I don't want to wait until November. I need it now. I've been playing CoD4 for about a year now, and now I'm so bored of it. I am waiting for Gears 2, and haven't touched my 360 in a while.

when i bought gears of war it was awaome. when i had heard of gears of war 2 i went out and bought the day after christmas. it was the best game ever. in my top three favorite games it would be the first and then cod4 and then codwaw. the campain is really fun and with two people it is even better. my friend came over and we played it. he didnt like the first one at all but when he played this one he felt so guilty because he loved it so much. this is probably going to be the game of the year and a must own.
