BUYER BEWARE. DO NOT BUY Nest Floodlight camera.

Do not buy this camera. It whiteouts license plates. I called Google and they blamed my iPhone. I sent Google a picture from my phone and from their camera and they never responded to me. I am highly disappointed because I have had a Nest doorbell camera for a few years and it recored 24/7 with video and audio, which is great, but this floodlight camera only records when it is activated by motion then it shorty stops recording. I would have bought a Ring floodlight camera if that was what I was looking for. Plus the camera is only held on by a magnet and a small power cord. Whatever Google did was a 180 to how they started. I had high expectations and was highly disappointed. I am returning this camera this weekend. This is supposed to be a security camera, but it’s more a a camera made by a criminal defense attorney. I am very disappointed. Plus the Nest App does not work and you have to use Google home which is not very good. It is not very user friendly. Very disappointed. Go ahead and buy if you want something that redacts and whites out license plates. I took a picture from 10-15 feet away and pointed the camera directly on the license plate. I tested this with 4 different vehicles. This is Google setting to scramble the license plate. Attached is my truck so you can see what I am talking about. .

The build of the camera is great, no doubt. It is pretty solid. The set up was easy and intuitive. The live view is very responsive. However, after 3 months of usage, the camera doesn’t seem to work anymore. Whenever I click to view live or check my history, it says, “Reconnecting/Camera offline.” It is super annoying. Despite of having to reconnecting and even factory reset multiple times, the problem still insists. I thought the Google is a big company and its products are super reliable, but after this incident, this would be my last time using Google hardwares or any Nest products. Do I recommend it? Absolutely NO!

This was an awesome camera for it's first year. Then Google decided to mess with the Nest platform, and left this floodlight out of the updates. Now this floodlight will not accept voice commands on anything. So it does not work for its advertised purpose. Worse, Google refuses to acknowledge their update in December made this camera an expensive piece of garbage. Go to Google Nest community to find out how many people who got this floodlight are complaining it doesn't work. They don't care. Steer clear. They do not have anyone still working there that knows how to fix it. Can't wait for one more bot to tell me to restart it (after I climb the 15 foot ladder, again.) Look elsewhere.

This is a copy and paste from my review on the Nest Cam Battery since it all applies here as well. At least I was able to return this to BBY and plan to shift all of my Google hardware purchases to BBY as a result. I'll start this out by saying I am a huge user of Google hardware products. Many Pixel phones, earbuds, Google Wifi, 2 Nest thermostats and several Nest Cam IQs. Generally super happy. Then we get to the new Nest Cam with Floodlight. Was super excited for it since one of my Cam IQs died (and with warranty that's too short). Ordered direct from Google, huge mistake there and should have purchased from BBY. My biggest gripe is that one MUST use the Google Home app to setup and control the new battery cams. As many other users have complained about this issue, I can also attest that the Home app is a terrible, terrible experience. Gone are the days where clicking on the Nest app brings up the camera feeds right away. Now you need to click on the Home app, then click on the Camera button and hope the cameras "connect." Also, if my battery cam is not plugged in I understand that it's not powered all of the time to conserve battery but don't you think when I click into Cameras in the Home app that I want to see that live view as well? And then there's the online experience. Why remove the ability to view the footage on a PC????? I use that feature at least once a month and it's invaluable. Oh well, guess Google knows better..... And there's no time stamp within the Home app so god forbid I need to send footage to someone they'll just need to guess when the recording was from. And finally, it's 2021. Why can't we have a 2k or 4k camera? And why no option to mount and power this via AC plug into an outlet? BK P.S. for the Google person that reads this, I don't want your typical form response that you're always listening. I don't believe that so don't waste our time with a canned response. Just please get this feedback to the product team so they can understand what paying customers think of their product they released too early and without much though.

Hi bkinnk, thanks for being an advocate of Google Nest products. It's unfortunate to hear about your disappointment with Nest Cam with Floodlight, and we're sorry to hear that you already returned it.

We wanted to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, and Google Assistant. It offers you a lot more benefits since you have access to Google´s security features as well. If you´re willing to try, you may set up your other Nest cameras to the Google Home app. Here´s a guide that you can follow to set up your Nest cameras on the Google Home app: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532

The current line of Nest cameras have full HD resolution with HDR video quality that’s optimized for a clear view in bright sun or dark. Keep in mind that it also helps save battery power. We believe that video resolution is only one factor that impacts video quality, and it shouldn’t be the only deciding factor when choosing a camera.

And as you said, we'll definitely pass along the details of your feedback to our product team. If you will have a change of heart and reconsider using Nest Cam with Floodlight again, you can count on our support team for your support needs, if you can visit us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

The actual camera hardware seems to be very good, and installation was pretty easy. I have about 8 nest cameras, and unfortunately 3 of them are newer like this one and thus you have to use the Google home app with them. And that app is just atrocious with the camera integration. Notifications literally come in a day later, you cannot easily review your recorded feed. For example, want to look at what happened 5 minutes ago? Well you have to go to the recorded history, which means yesterday, and then scroll on your phone an entire day ahead, which either takes forever or you got the wrong area on your phone screen an exit by accident. Just a shame Google has totally ruined their cameras with this app. The old nest app is far and away better in all aspects. Don't buy these cameras unless they fix the app or let you use the nest app again.

Hi there, Irb123! We appreciate your feedback and continued support of our Google Nest products. It's great to hear that you're liking the hardware features of Nest Cam with Floodlight and that you had an easy time installing it. However, we're sorry if the Google Home app fell short of meeting your expectations. We understand that you have enjoyed the features of the Nest app for a long time. But we wanted to make the Google Home app as the one place where you can control all your favorite Nest devices and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Furthermore, here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam with Floodlight:
      - Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
      - Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, ""Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
      - One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.

We value your feedback and we'll certainly make sure to pass along the information that you provided us to the right team. We'll certainly look into improving our product features and we're hoping you will keep an eye on our blog site for future announcements on new products and features here: https://blog.google/

These new google nest products are absolute garbage starting with the app that is evidently being coded by elementary school kids because nothing works, its bloated, unintuitive, and just plainly does not work. The app alone isn’t even a fraction of the quality the original Nest app was. Google interferes with everything and ruins everything they touch. Absolute GARBAGE and NO LONGER RECOMMENDED!!

If you have a Nest Aware video subscription, you can only view history of this product in the Google Home app. If you have already set up other products in the Nest app, you can only view history in that app. That means you have to flip back and forth between the two apps (Google Home and Nest) to see all of your video history. I spoke with customer service and they know this is an issue but they don't care, just flip back and forth because they're Google and they don't have to care. Find another service to use because Google messed up what was a great Nest application.

Hi SpasticNerfbag, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your disappointment with Nest Cam with floodlight. We understand the convenience of only one application for all of your devices.

The new Nest Cam with floodlight is exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience. Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. Users with older cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Cams. Our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app so all of your cameras can be set up and controlled in one place.

We value your feedback as we’re always working to understand our customers’ needs. If you have questions you want us to answer, feel free contacting our support team here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

DO NOT BUY!!!..as with everyone else's complaints the camera does not preform basic function. Cannot get live video as it says "unavailable. The camera may be unreachable or saving battery." I am an electrician by trade so dont ask if its installed correctly. I have three other Nest cameras from before google bought them out, Nest IQ cameras and they all work perfectly (including the software). I have a nest video doorbell and that works perfectly. I have a google wifi mesh system. I have a mesh point less than 20 feet from the camera located 9 feet high on the same wall as the camera with only the garage door between the two. I have reset the camera, removed and reinstalled the camera on my phone, tested my mesh system, my wifi speed and everyother BS excuse they come up with...bottom line is the cameras and software suck. Nest was much better off before google took them over. Rant over

Beware that after the free trials - if you don’t buy monthly plan - this is basically just a motion sensor light and a camera that will only show the live feed. It stores nothing, and they disable every feather of the camera including the zone you want covered with notifications. Of course, this happens right when the item cannot be returned. This is nothing but a ploy to force u to have the monthly coverage. I would never recommend any security feature from google.

Hi Barry, thanks for sharing a review to let us know of your issues with the Nest Cam with floodlight, and we’re sorry to learn that it didn’t work with your Nest Aware account.

The new Nest cameras support Nest aware subscription, and if you added the Nest Cam with floodlight to a Home structure with an existing Nest Aware (2nd gen), the Nest Aware plan will apply to every camera on a given Home structure. Nest Aware (2nd gen) offers a whole home subscription that includes all Nest Cameras, Nest Hello and Google Home and Nest speakers (US only) and displays (US only) in your home.

That said, we’d like to figure out the reasons behind this issue. We suggest getting in touch with our specialists for further assistance, here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

I am 2 months in owning these cameras. I bought a total of 5 cameras. In the 2 months, 3 cameras went bad on me. All 3 of them had the same battery issue. The process to get a warranty replacement is straight forward, unfortunately you have to wait for hours on the phone. I once was waiting for about 50 minutes just to talk to someone to tell me to reset and leave it in the charger for 24hrs, and call back wait another hour to let them know it doesn't work to start the warranty replacement. I had these mounted high outside my house and had them offline with battery issues more than actually having them operating as snow was in the way to bring them down. The warranty will not be 1 year from replacement but 1 year from original purchase date. Im thinking these will not last another year. I honestly will NOT EVER be buying these cameras in the future. Nor will I recommend them to my friends or family. I only bought them because they integrate with the Google Home Units. But absolutely not worth the hassle, and the poor quality. Make sure you get Geek Squad Protection because after the 1 year warranty from your original purchase date, your on your own, and will be stuck with a paper weight.

These new Google home cameras will only allow you to download video history on “Events” that Google has flagged. You cannot download for example a 30 minute clip like you could do with the original Nest cameras. What’s the point in having 24/7 recording if you’re not able to download the footage? I certainly expected more from Google!

Hi Jared, thanks for your feedback and we're glad that you're liking the overall build quality of Nest Cam with Floodlight. We do apologize if you're having some difficulty downloading the video history. You can only download video clips from detected events in the video history and download up to 1 hour per clip. Follow the steps below to create and download a video clip:
      - Open the Google Home app.
      - Select your camera.
      - Tap History near the bottom of the screen.
      - Scroll to an event in your camera's video history timeline. You can also tap Full history for a list of events.
      - Choose the event you want, then tap Event details.
      - Near the top of the screen, tap download icon to save the video clip to your phone. From there, you can share the video clip via email or social media app.

Unbelievably disappointed by nest products since Google bought them. Night vision doesn’t work, app doesn’t know what the product is and does not allow floodlight co trip, and scrolling through events is impossible. There was someone in my yard and that segment of video is somehow unavailable. When you see someone in your yard and your heart is racing, you cannot wait three days (or whatever it will end up being) for a video to become available. Epic failure.

Hi there, thanks for reaching out. It's unfortunate to hear that some features of Nest Cam with Floodlight, fell short of meeting your expectations. We can only imagine how disappointing this experience may have been for you.

The video quality for the Night Vision feature on your Nest camera may be affected by internet speed and we recommend removing some of your connected devices to free up some bandwidth for your network. Once you verify there is congestion, then you may need to contact your Internet service provider for resolution,

Additionally, here are some helpful steps you can try out to improve the Night Vision feature:
      - Clean the lens with a soft cloth that’s made for cleaning optics. Dust, thumbprints and dirt can cause poor image quality.
      - Turn your camera so that any nearby surfaces or objects (like a wall) are out of view.
      - Use the Google Home app to zoom and enhance and crop out surfaces or objects that may be causing glare.
      - If you see a bright white shape along the edge while everything else is too dark, there might be a surface that’s too close in your camera’s view (like a wall). Angle your camera so the surface stays out of view.
      - Move nearby objects that may be reflecting the infrared light.
      - Change the Activity Zones on your camera. You can delete your existing Activity Zone and create a new one in any area within your camera's field of view. Just make sure that none of the zones you create overlap.

If you will allow us, we'd like to delve deeper into the reason that may be causing the event-based video recording of your Nest Cam with Floodlight. You can always contact our support team via the Google Nest help page: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest
