As a kid, I first saw this movie after a friend introduced it to me. I wanted to buy because of the cool action scenes I remembered seeing back then. Now given this film came out at a time of when films like “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” were one of big movies a lot of people liked. So films like these had a certain style to them. Even for the fight choreography. Which is still solid to this day. (It’s part the wire work where actors get on harnesses. To perform those big flips and soaring kicks) But it may have been more exciting to watch as a kid. I’d still say it’s worth a watch.

This is an excellent movie providing reference-grade audio - especially the drum sequence. However, the video is noisy with drenched and saturated greens. If any movie was made to be reissued in 4K with color correction this would be high on the list. But despite the problems I would still recommend it.

This movie aspires to be a Crouching Tiger, but only a kitten comes looking for the milk bowl. You can pass on it.

3 huges asian superstars give you a rich colorful poetic action romance film begging to be showed off on any big screen. The melodrama is kept to a minimum to make room and forge the story of a clan called the House of flying daggers who are a threat to the government. There are nice twists that keep this from being a simplistic good vs evil no brainer. Although this is a period film, there is a decent amount of sharp special effects making knive throwing very cool.

For those of you that love the Chinese folk lore type movies like Crouching Tiger, you would love this movie. Mostly a romance story but twisted into the plot in an interesting way. Excellent action sequences supported with good special effects. Good English dub over. I will enjoy this one again and again.
