    Great everyday laptop

I bought this laptop this Christmas for my mother. Her old computer was getting old and slow. She doesn't play video game online, graphic design, or anything that requires very powerful processor or graphic card. So I was looking for a replacement just for everyday usage. This laptop is great and she loves it. The design is stylish, the screen is huge, the keys on keyboard are hard to miss... all the things an elder person would prefer. She does watch movies, recorded video, and video streamed online (youtube, hulu...). She also uses to video chat with other relatives once a while. So the built-in webcam really made it easier for her since there was nothing needed to plug in or turn on. Something I have observed: It does get warm as every other laptop does. The built-in fans are quiet. I always use a rack to elevate the laptop for better air flow and cooling anyway. Despite the size of the laptop, it is very light. So it's easy to carry it around. The battery life is average. It also depends on how the laptop is used. In this case, it is going to be used around the house anyway. So that is not an issue at all. The power button and DVD tray eject button are very skinny, but they have not annoyed my mother or me. Up and down buttons are also skinnier than the other keys, but not too difficult to use either. All the ports are on the sides of laptop; nothing is on the back due to the way the screen rotates. If there is one thing that I really don't like, that would be the lack of latch. The lid closes fine, but I just feel better knowing it's latched when it's closed. Bottom line: This laptop is great for everyday usage and is capable of doing some of the intense graphics activities. Although it may not be powerful enough to be called a "desktop replacement", its specs are good enough to be adequate for 5 years.

Didn't purchase this one at BB, but its still the same machine and I have purchased another laptop at BB...Like the feel of the keyboard, the size and layout, good for my fat fingers...really like the fact there is the 10 keypad like a full size keybard has....good Altec speakers built in...battery life is NOWHERE near advertised, 3 hours the best I have seen and that is just using to surf the web and e-mail....not sure if there would be enough to watch a DVD movie....the touchpad DEFINATELY needs time to get used to, but once you do, not too bad! For what opinions are worth, Good investment.

I have had my laptop for less than two years and here are the issues I have experienced: 1) DVD drive stopped working within 6 months. Was replaced via HP customer service because I was under warranty. Had I not been, I would've been out a few hundred dollars to replace it. 2) The socket that connects to external power somehow got loose. Now I have to rig the cord so that it won't fall out and compromise battery performance. 3) Because of the problem stated above, my 12-cell battery now holds power for under and hour. It was impossible to keep the cord in at all times/everytime when charging. This means the battery wasn't always given a full charge, reducing its capacity. 4) Integrated mousepad stopped working. After days of troubleshooting and technical assistance, it was deemed faulty. Covered under warranty, but I'd have to send the computer away which hasn't been a viable option. When I looked into the issue in the HP support forums, I found that many people have experienced the same malfunction. I now use a wireless mouse. With a laptop. I also experience technical glitches including a seemingly possessed sound board. The performance/capacity of the product is decent but does not make up for the defects. I paid quite a large amount of money to customize the notebook, and it has not held up at all. I am beginning to shop around for another brand. I would recommend you look at products other than HP.

Have had for about a mount & love it. Setup was a breeze. It did most of the work. Had it up & runnig in less than an hour. It took longer because I did away with the anti virus that came with it & installed AVG on it. It found all my wireless stuff that needed to be installed & did it itself that was a big plus. I have a gateway desk top that I still can't get it to recognize the priinter wirelessly. Found it on sale at office depot & went to Best Buy & they honard all price cuts for it & even had to order it, was not in their store. Didn't think I would like the keyboard but was no problem to get used to.
