Love the newer design and upgrade to windows 8. The setup was very easy and quick. For myself it is a great computer, trying to upgrade the hubby is a lot harder, especially when they don't like technology. Staying up to date with the technology in this age is very important as to be able keep up with changing roles and jobs, and keeping up with family.

The computer is perhaps going to be one of the last to be manufactured before HP may seize to build PCs. The computer is a very low end PC with a tiny mobile motherboard inside of it (I opened it). It`s almost like an even lower end Mac Mini computer. The computer faults at disks speeds which is where all PCs are prone to fail at. There is no PCI expansions since this is a proprietary computer, it`s special. it does not have slots for video cards or such because it has a mobile-class board inside. You might notice some PCI metal brackets on the back but there is literary nothing inside in that space, it`s blank, the board does not even stretch to that distance. This might have been a plan by HP in which they would have this PC and then there would be the standard one with the regular board ...who knows where those are. On the funnier side of things, it`s got 2 RAM slots in which you could fill with and max out with 16GB of memory shall you desire to. Plenty of USB ports, 2 on front, and some 4 on the back. On board Wifi and Ethernet (see where the mobile motherboard thing is coming in?). The CPU is a low end AMD one which is non upgradeable. Computer is silent and when you turn off the lights there is a grill on the side (I have mine horizontal with the screen sitting on top) and it`s light up slightly by the power button, pretty. This computer is awesome if you plan to use software from the past and games from the past and need to do some current things. Computer is great at code development (Visual Studio took a while to install but that was because it was copying from an external USB hard disk, otherwise fine most of the time when using.) If you want to have a giggle you could always install an SSD disk as usual and max out the ram, and enlarge the paging file. Then it would act like a speedy tablet computer, which is pretty good since it`s what most consumers are doing out there now a days, you would just end up having a tablet on a desktop style setup. Some might want that, who knows. Is it worth it? Could be, but must be a tiny bit patient. It`s only some 200 USD... Which is dirt cheap. Try it! Mouse and keyboard are tasty btw.

We needed a back-up PC running Windows. When all systems are 'go', this one is positioned as an interface between the internet and our flat-screen TV. But we can use it as a back-up for general PC work by unplugging three cables and moving it to the PC room. OK, this is not the fastest PC in the scuderia -- hence only four stars. But at the sale price of <$250, it is a very good solution to the back-up issue. Also, for those folks that want an inexpensive PC for email and casual web-browsing, this is a natural. We are looking at buying another for a relative with minimal computing needs. This is a good package at the price point.

I purchased this product for my younger child to use for her games and to do homework on. It runs everything very well but gets a bit laggy on some things. over all it is more than adequate for the task and at the price it was an excellent choice.

This little beast works great. Not too good for heavy graphics. But typical tasks and driving plotters or routers it works perfect. Surf the net, email, it has no problems. Photoshop, Lightroom it can not do But compact quiet affordable.

I bought this computer for my child who has a disability and needed a computer for basic web browsing and watching you tube. I didn't want to spend a lot of money but I didn't want to buy something he would outgrow right away. This computer is perfect for his needs and the price was great. I find myself and my other kids using this computer too! We are very pleased with this purchase.

About a week after I bought this system, it went berserk Best Buy replaced it with the same model, and except for a couple of issues, everything's been fine. On the negative side, it's slow using 4gb of ram. I recommend adding another 4gb, and, believe me, you'll see the difference. My other problem was with the keyboard. The one that came with the system is junk. I tried to keep in mind the old adage: " you get what you pay for". But, after two weeks of fighting the HP keyboard, I can now say that board is history. Except for the two issues mentioned, this system has worked well. Because of that, I have no problem recommending this computer

Needed a basic PC to run some software at work. The while organization is Mac based, so we don't use windows or PC very often (if at all). Was in a crunch and needed to buy one. It is a decent PC at a great price. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I didn't look at previous reviews before I purchased this. While it's a good computer, it isn't the quickest PC I've ever used. In fact, if I open a new window, it rarely loads unless I'm on the page. I've had good luck with HP in the past, so I'm confident I can add some speed and everything will be great.

The size of this desk top is great. I would give the system a 5 star rate, but the new key board that came with it only rates a 2 star. The keys stick a lot which drives me crazy!

I wish I had the money to purchase another PC. I have been an HP user for years and never disappointed. However, the streak was shattered with this purchase. The keyboard is great for toddler sized hands. Must constantly clear history or pages fail or become slower than slow. It is an ok device for the financially challenged but, if can buy better, do so.

    Perfect Size But Sluggish

I was looking for a computer compact in size that would handle basic word processing & accounting for our church. Purchased this computer based on size. Over all computer is mediocre at best. Keyboard and mouse are not consistent. Misses keystrokes periodically. CPU processing is a little sluggish when running Quickbooks. If you are looking for a "fast" computer in a small package, this may not be it. Especially for the price paid.

Once I got one that actually turned on and worked and then spent over an hour on the phone with customer support resetting the computer because the second one came with a password I did not know since I did not put it into the computer I have only had problems with it communicating with my printer. I think that is a windows 8.1 problem but I am working with it. All of this makes me hesitant to recommend it to anyone. The price was great but that does make up for the time wasted.

HP Pavilion Slimline 400-314 Desktop, I bought for my 10 year old daughter to browse the internet for homework and online kids websites. She also uses it for youtube and roblox.com (a gaming website.) Its not the fastest machine but it does everything we need it to and it comes with windows 8. It was also very affordable.

Was looking for something cheap for the wife, who doesn't do any serious computing. Access to the net, CD/DVD player and normal activities. So far this machine fits the bill perfectly. East set-up, and no problems. Had to bite the fact it came with Windows 8 (especially when she was used to Windows 7). But I installed Classic-Shell for her and she's good to go. Great value for the price.

We needed a new machine to run videos and over heads for our church. We were not looking for a screaming machine or a gamer, just something to do the job. The computer was very well priced and offered far more than the minimums we required. We are very pleased with our purchase.
