Works As Expected - Nice Upgrade from Old Remote

I have a Roku based TCL TV whose remote has seen better days. The battery door doesn’t stay on, and the d-pad sticks a bit. One of the shortcut buttons is woefully out of date and no use to us. The kids also like to leave the remote in various places or lose it down the couch, which causes a daily search it seems. With these shortcomings in mind I was happy to see the replacement remote available.
The remote looks just like a regular Roku remote – an identical layout to the TCL provided remote, or any of the other Roku streaming remotes I have. The remote is more squared off in comparison and the plastic has a light texture to it. The TCL remote has a rounded bottom and glossy plastic – a design that lends itself to sliding off surfaces easily. The squared off remote balances on the armrest of the couch a little better. The remote carries 4 programmable shortcut buttons. These buttons have default settings: A-Netflix, B-Prime, C-Hulu, and D-Disney.
Right out of the box the remote was able to control the TV, and didn’t need any additional setup. There was nothing more to it than that. Range on the remote is good, and the buttons feel good. It feels like a solid replacement.
You can change the programming on the remote’s shortcut buttons 2 ways. The first is to take the old remote and copy its settings via IR learning. You just have to hold the power button on the remote for 3 seconds for to start the learning mode. Then you press the shortcut button you want to program, and point the top of each remote right at each other. From there you press and hold the button on your old remote that you want to copy over. It works pretty well, but unfortunately my old remote doesn’t have anything worth teaching the new remote.
The other method is to program a multi-step macro. I would like to have Max as one of the buttons instead of Prime, but my old remote didn’t have that as an option. So instead I have to rely on a macro. You start the process with the TV on, and then holding the back button and shortcut you want to program for 3 seconds. From there you press the sequence of buttons you need to navigate to the app on the TV’s menu. You start with the Home button, the arrow around to the app, and finish with the OK button. After you get the sequence right you press and hold the shortcut button you are programming for 3 seconds until the remote light flashes green. The one downside to this method is if you decide to rearrange your app menu, then you will need to adjust the macro to the new menu position.
Overall, this is a good remote. I would definitely recommend it to anyone in need of a replacement, or just want to keep a backup because kids (or pets).

Inexpensive replacement Roku remote, just works

I own an insignia Roku tv and have been loving it. But when i lost my remote control, my life has been slightly more difficult. I have been having to use the Roku mobile app to control my tv. Although this is a modern day high tech solution, it had become quite cumbersome. Having to unlock my phone and load the app, and wait for it to connect each time is a bit much when i just need to raise the volume.
The Roku replacement remote was my perfect solution! It is very inexpensive and works perfectly. In fact, i am a bit disappointed with myself for not acquiring this sooner.
The remote is almost a like for like replacement and works natively with the major brand Roku tvs.
The bottom of the remote has the 4 quick launch buttons, but they don't quite function like the original remote. This buttons immediately launch 4 popular apps, depending on the tv, but this remote has to be programmed. The way you do this is by setting up a macro. You have to start the macro with a button combination, then launch the app how you normally would. This records the button combinations and launches it with the press of the shortcut button. For example, you would record pressing the home button, then scroll to the app you want, then select the app to open. It records all this, then launches with the button. Alternatively, you can program these buttons by "teaching" it with an existing remote. However, if you have your original remote you will likely not be purchasing this.
Overall i am very pleased with this replacement remote, and i highly recommend it if you lose your original remote.

Excellent Back-Up, Secondary or Replacement Remote

One of my biggest pet peeves is when something goes wrong with the original remote for a television. Having this Insignia remote as a back-up option helps alleviate those fears. Not only does it work almost exactly the same as the remote that came with my TCL Roku TV, but it also has a cool extra feature.
What I Liked:
- It worked right out of the box. I didn't have to do any special programming. It already controlled power and volume for my Bose soundbar, navigated the menus, etc.
- The rubbery buttons have great texture for pressing and seem of high quality.
- Batteries are included!
- The programming feature, allowing you to set up macros to launch specific apps was easy to set up. The remote has 4 extra buttons (labeled A thru D) that you can program. Within 5-10 minutes I had set up the red A button to launch Netflix, the green B button to launch Prime Video, the C button to make the TV shift to the HDMI input that my XBox is connected to, and the D button to launch Disney+.
- Unlike with Apple TVs, you can use this remote in addition to other remotes. I love having one remote on both sides of the living room so multiple family members can interact with the TV as needed.
- This remote is as affordable as they come.
I cannot recommend this remote any more highly. If you need a replacement for your Hisense, TCL, or Insignia Roku TV (or just want a secondary or back-up option to be available), look no further.

Improved, Sync and ready to go!

This Roku replacement remote has been exactly what I have been looking for. When I initially purchased my Roku television the remote did not control volume and the pre-programed buttons on the bottom only aligned with specific apps. Now, the newer version of this remote has the capability to control volume and to customize the short cuts buttons. This has been a great add. Another feature that I like is that the directional arrows seems to be better build.. my prior remote had the inner rubber covering fall off, the material is now differ which seems to be better built. In terms of usage, I only had to sync (which was very easy and straight forward) and then was ready to go! Responsiveness of this remote is equal to what is expected, button clicks are precise and distinct as well. The size of this remote is the same as prior models a well. There are 2 triple A batteries included in the box.
All in all, there are many vast improvements that have been made to this Roku replacement remote. Its built better with an improved set of features. Highly recommended.

We have a 65” Hisense Roku tv in our living room and unfortunately the control that came with it was broken by one of the kiddos. Anywho… This insignia Roku controller is ingenious! All I had to do was pop the batteries into the remote and it was good to go! I didn’t even have to enter the “learning mode” in the control. The tv automatically recognized the controller and was good to go. It is compatible with Hisense, Insignia, TCL and Roku Tv. The build quality is excellent. It is almost identical to the oem controller that came with my tv except this one has a flat matte texture. My original controller was glossy. I enjoy the flat matte texture of a tv controller. It is grippy and stays “clean” longer. No greasy fingerprints. The buttons are comfortable and easy to press. They have all the functions you could need for your smart tv. It works with AAA batteries which are included in the box. This control is perfect for Roku tv, it is easy to navigate the menus and stream from your apps with it. I do not have any complaints about this controller, and if you are in need for a replacement control for any of the tv’s this is compatible with, I highly recommend it. I come from a time when it would take a while to program a universal remote so I appreciate how easy this control is to use.

Quick, East, Fast Replacement for Roku Remote

The Insignia Roku Remote worked perfectly with my Hisense TV. No setup, no pairing, or training. It was simply open the box, grab the included AAA batteries, stick them in the remote and you're done. It's important to know that the remote only works on Hisense Roku TVs (not Hisense Android TVs) and it will not work with an external Roku device like an Ultra.
In terms of look and feel, the Insignia remote is the same size and feel as the original (see photos). The realy main difference is the labeled buttons on the original are just A, B, C and D buttons but still work as shortcuts. Worth knowing that they don't exactly map to your original. My C button was Hulu vs AppleTV on the original.
That all said, I discovered something cool - you can customize the shortcut buttons. Included in the box is a short instruction card. Not only can you train the new remote on old shortcuts (if you want) but you can also program the A, B, C, D buttons. This makes the Insignia remote 10x better than the original, no forced "button ad" for a service you may not subscribe to or want. Got to love that!
Overall, easy affordable replacement for a Hisense TV Roku remote. Love it!

Good Roku TV remote with some issues

The package includes the remote, some AAA batteries and the user guide. It’s a similar size, weight and shape to a standard Roku Remote. There is good, positive feedback from button pushes. At least as good as the original remotes. This remote is a bit more “clicky” and the original remote is a little more mushy but both give positive feedback.
It is designed specifically for and works out of the box with Roku TV’s. There is no need to pair the remote to a TV. I tried it on a TCL 32” TV, an Element 24” TV and a Hisense 65” TV. All with no issues. It will not work with Roku Boxes or Sticks. I tried it on several and there was no connection at all and no way to pair.
The 4 preset buttons work out of the box as well. A – Netflix, B – Amazon Prime Video, C – Hulu, D – Disney. They are not labeled with a specific app because the buttons are programmable. Unfortunately, programming is more work than I’d like and quite finicky. You must record a macro.
(1) Pick the button you would like to program.
(2) Go through the steps to open the app you want.
(3) Press and hold the button to save.
From then on, when you hit the button, the TV will go through the steps that were programmed. The programmed app doesn’t “just open” as they do with the pre-programmed apps. The macro also records ‘exactly’ what you do. If you pause for a couple of seconds to think about what button to push, the macro will also pause for a couple of seconds. If you push the buttons quickly, the macro will run quickly. It would be much easier if it was more like a car radio where you open the channel or app and then just push and hold the button you want to program for a few seconds until a beep or a light flashes to confirm the button is programmed.
Another issue is, if you move the programmed app to a new location, you will need to reprogram the button. The macro opens whatever app is in the location that is programmed. Similarly, if there is an update that adds or removes buttons from your screen (which happened to me), you will need to reprogram. It is a little annoying but the fact that the buttons are programmable at all is better than not being able to be programmed.
Finally, the remote must be pointed at the TV while the macro is running. While testing, I got a little lazy and moved the remote before the macro completed and the app didn’t open.
Aside from the programming of the buttons issue, this remote is great and I would recommend it for Roku TV users looking for an additional remote or an easy (no pairing) replacement. It’s at least as good as the Roku Remote in terms of feel and almost as good in terms of function.

Great replacement remote for specific ROKU TV's

This remote is for Insignia, TCL, Hisense, & Roku enabled TV’s. It looks very similar to the one that came with my Hisense TV and is exactly the same size as the original. The differences are with the 4-way directional button. It is not cut at the corners but instead is oval with the 4 arrows like the original. It still works easily and I did not find it an issue. The OK button is slightly larger and in the center like the original. The bottom of the remote is not tapered for your finger, but again, not a deal breaker. And lastly, the 4 buttons at the bottom for picking a favorites are lettered A, B, C, D so you can reprogram to your liking.
Out of the box, after installing the included batteries, it worked without programming on my Hisense TV. . There are good instructions that will walk you through how to clear a previous programming, and how to make it work with you TV, if necessary. Out of the box the Top Left button (A) is programmed for Netflix, the top right (B) if set for Prime Video, the bottom left (C) is set for Hulu, and the bottom right (D) is set for Disney. If you don’t like the choices or their locations, you can reprogram them. There are buttons on the side for volume and mute just like the original.
I find the remote easy to use, and the key feel is very good, it feels like the original. The only negative, the battery cover was initially tight to open on mine. Overall it’s a replacement that will take little time to adjust to, yet gives you some programming flexibility with which button brings you your favorite streaming channel. It’s very reasonably priced for a replacement remote. Yes, I would recommend this remote to a friend,

A Perfect Replacement Remote!

I am writing this review for the Insignia Replacement Remote for Roku TVs.
When I last bought a Roku TV, it came with the perfect remote. It was small, fit well in my hand, and had just the basic, necessary control buttons. After just a few uses I was able to use it without having to look at the remote to see where all the buttons were. It was almost like it had become an extension of myself. The one and only thing I didn’t like about it was that the OK button was too small, and it was difficult to feel…not only because it was so small, but because it meshed so well with the Up, Down, Left and Right arrows on each side of it. So when I saw the Insignia replacement remote, I noticed the OK button was much larger than the current remote, and I decided to give it a try.
The first thing I noticed when I got it was that for the most part it was the same size overall as my old remote, and that it was basically laid out the same. The second thing I noticed was that the preprogrammed buttons were different. My old remote came preprogrammed with Netflix, Hulu, Sling and NOW. The replacement came preprogrammed, but with the ability to change them to whatever I want. The buttons are simply labeled A, B, C, and D. It doesn’t get any better than that. And if you want to keep them the same as your old remote, all it takes is the press of a few buttons using your old remote, and your done!
If you are looking for the perfect replacement remote for your Insignia, Hisense or TCL TV, this is the remote to get!

This universal remote has been a lifesaver! I was tossing and turning the other night and was feeling around on my nightstand for the TV remote to watch a little TV. All of a sudden, I hit a bottle of water I had on the nightstand in the pitch black dark and knocked it over on the remote. Needless to say, it was toast. I jumped on the internet and downloaded a TCL tv Roku app. About half way through installation, phone lit up like a Christmas tree with pop up ads. I couldn't stand the intrusive barrage of constant ads and promptly uninstalled it. I found this little gem on Best Buy. Works like a champ! I'm glad my remote got trashed. The new one works even better. Push a button and it responds. Old one was not very good. Would've turn channels half the time and volume buttons didn't work most the time either. This one is awesome and is worth every dime! I was skeptical that such an inexpensive item would prove to be so worthy of the task I assigned it. It actually saved me from having to purchase another television altogether. The remote itself if very similar in design to the OEM Roku remotes. The colors are close, the size is the same, there is a slight difference in weight (it feels lighter), and it is not a grippy rubbery plastic as the others are. It is smoother and therefore a bit more slippery in hand. I can easily recommend this as a replacement product for Roku/Insignia original issue TV remotes.

So glad I got this Roku remote! It's slightly smaller than my original, not a bad thing. Worked right out of the box with my TCL Roku tv. Your results may vary. However, the included instructions are excellent, so pairing it to your Roku TV shouldn't be an issue. It's also surprisingly lighter than the original remote. For my TV, it works at all angles, even nearly parallel to the TV. Another surprise. Working distance is excellent. I was only able to get about thirty feet away, and it still worked flawlessly. Those of you with large rooms or mini home theaters shouldn't have an issue using this remote. The ABCD button come pre-programmed to apps like Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc. However they are easily remappable to any app on your TV home screen. The instructions are good and the process is simple. However, there is a catch that isn't really noted in the instructions. After you program the button macro sequence and it's set, any time you use the button to get to your programmed app, you need to keep the remote pointed at the TV, otherwise it only partly works.
Keep that in mind and you'll enjoy the remote.

Usually the frustrating part of getting a replacement remote is either programming it to work with your TV or not having all the functions work as the old remote did. My Roku TV worked flawlessly right out of the box. Put the batteries in, pointed it to the TV and all the functions worked. I have a TCL Roku tv that it is now paired up to. No only did it work right out of the box but it was also already preprogrammed with quick access to four streaming services. If you don't like the services that are preprogrammed you can reprogram them to the ones you use. All the functions are there just like on the original so there is almost no learning curve. This is the basic remote so there is no voice control button or USB port which for me is fine since its used in a bedroom and one of us is usually sleeping while the other watching TV. Two triple A batteries keep the power going. I haven't had it long enough to speak to battery life but I would expect it to be inline with the previous remote. This is an excellent replacement for a lost or damaged Roku remote.

We are incredibly happy with this remote. The Insignia Roku TV Replacement Remote worked right out of the box after installing the included batteries. We have 3 kids under the age of 6 and our remotes are constantly walking out of the room and sometimes they never come back.
The build quality of the remote is solid and feels very similar to the original remote that came with our TV. We thought that we might not like the fact that there are no logos on the buttons but after years of being exposed to the unique colors associated with each app, we subconsciously know what to select regardless of the lack of branding.
The remote was turn-key out of the box and immediately started working with our TV. Gone are the days of having to program your remote - we love the ease of hot-swapping.
The price point for this remote is also spot on. I know that we will be purchasing more in the future to have on hand if/when this replacement remote walks off like the others before it. This remote is a no-brainer purchase as far as we're concerned.

These remote compliments the hardware that comes with a ROKU device. It is pretty much the same size and has all the functionality. The buttons are responsive and arranged in a very user-friendly format. Connection was simple and my ROKU instantly recognized it. The biggest difference that with the ROKU branded remote is with the four quick application access buttons. The regular ROKU remote has the applications pre-assigned. I like this replacement better because the buttons are not pre-assigned and can be programmed to whatever application you like. This is a huge benefit because most people will not use all of the pre-programmed applications. It includes two AAA batteries and setup guide. It does not support voice control, but most of the regular ROKU remotes do not either. It works as a great alternative to the regular controller, a replacement or as a spare to have to use as well. I highly recommend and the Insignia brand has the full backing of BestBuy and is of the same high quality as the regular ROKU remote.

Got this remote the other day as a spare. We have 6 TVs throughout the house made by various brands that all have the Roku interface integrated into them.
Without even programming or configuring anything, the power button on this remote instantly turned on all of the ones that should (Element, onn., TCL, Hisense) without issue. The remote looks very similar with some slightly different buttons for the directional and select. Little more squared off than the Remotes that came with the TV, but just as comfortable to use in-hand. Range and responsiveness excellent as well.
Definitely recommend as a replacement or spare for compatible brand Roku TVs that use the IR signal (note: these do not work with the wireless signal required for Roku Sticks).

This is an alright remote.
There's nothing wrong with the remote itself, but when you look at it from a certain perspective, there are better options.
Let's start with the basics. It has the standard power button, home button, back button, navigation buttons to go up, down, left, and right, an OK button, an instant replay button, a settings button, a sleep button, media control buttons, and 4 programmable buttons.
The buttons themself feel quite good. They're nice and soft to press.
My main problem with this remote, though, is its price. With the exception of the four programmable buttons, there's nothing that this remote has that isn't included in Roku's first-party remote. Even though they're basically the same thing functionality-wise, this Insignia remote is $5 more (the Roku first-party remote is $9.99, while this is $14.99). You might as well buy Roku's voice control remote for $19.99 if you're going to spend $14.99 anyway.
Overall, this isn't a bad remote. I wouldn't suggest it unless programmable buttons are really that important to you.
