    Nice Dishwasher

I wanted the best dishwasher so I didn't have to wash dishes myself anymore. I looked at all the other brands (bosch and electrolux) and read countless reviews. I picked this one and chose it over the 60 series because of the upper 3rd rack that moves up and down and is great for knives. This doesn't have the water softner but I don't need it and if you can afford this one, odds are you already have one for your whole house anyways. This one is super quiet, my wife can't hear it and has to touch it just to see if it is indeed running. Very nice looking and does what it says it should. I found a more competitive price at a local appliance dealer, bb doesn't stock this unit on the floor, nor does anyone else that I found, its just too pricey and doesn't move but for the very particular customer… you will love it if you do buy it.

    Complete Waste of Money

I was so excited when I got this delivered and my husband installed it for me. The price put me off a little, but my husband and I agreed that if we were going to splurge on one appliance, the dishwasher is the one we should choose. The instructions tell you that you don't need to rinse your dishes, just scrape the food off and load them. It just isn't true at all. I had an old dishwasher (I don't know any of the specifics, it came with the house) and it got my dishes just as clean, if not cleaner without any rinsing. I have pulled glasses out of the dishwasher with food dried on the outside, when the outside was clean when I put the glass in! My pots, pans, and lids are almost always still dirty when I pull them out and I have to scrub them and put them back in. Casserole pans don't get cleaned at all. If the lack of cleaning power isn't enough to turn you off to this dishwasher, the space issue is. It has 3 racks (bottom, top, and a small utensil rack). If I have the top rack lowered then my plates on the bottom rack stop the sprayer from spinning and washing my top rack items. If I move my top rack up so I can wash plates then I have to remove the utensil rack if I want to be able to wash tall cups and mixing bowls. It is a lot of effort and I almost always have to have the utensil rack out on the counter if I want to run my dishwasher. It also takes at least 2 hours to run, which doesn't really matter, but in 2-3 hours I expect clean dishes. It is very, very quiet. We have to look at the little light to see if it is running. It is a very nice looking machine, no complaints there. This dishwasher is one of my biggest cases of buyer's remorse. I am going to be paying on a machine that works poorly and is a hassle to use for the next 3 years.

You have to NOT hear it to believe it!

I bought dishwashers that tout their silent operation and found that, while they were more quiet than the unit I'd replaced, they didn't run as quietly as I'd hoped. That is just not the case with the KitchenAid KUDE70FXSS. This is the first dishwasher that I ever felt lived up to the claim of quiet operation. When the installer came into the living room to tell me he was finished with the installation of the KitchenAid he said "I bet you never even heard me turn it on". I was amazed as he walked into the kitchen, opened the door and showed me the stainless steel washing tub dripping with water. He'd tested the operation as part of the installation. I was literally 40 feet away in the living room and I never even heard the unit turn on! First and foremost, the dishwasher is refined in it's simplistic elegance. The controls are mounted on the top of the door so they are hidden under the countertop when the dishwasher is closed. The only thing that breaks the stainless steel monolith on the front face is a very small light near the upper right hand corner of the door. At first, I questioned what it was and wondered why it was there when I learned it was a light. I wasn't sure why KitchenAid would interrupt that stainless facade with it. Now I know. It's there so you will know when the dishwasher is actually running. I'm not even kidding! When the machine is running, that light glows blue. When the unit is in the drying cycle, the light is red. Finally, when the dishes are clean and the washing/drying cycles are complete, the light is green. To test the dishwasher, I had some dishes that I'd let wait in the sink all day. I had a pan with dried on egg and cheese from an omelet. There was a bowl with dried grits and other assorted plates, utensils, cookware, and so on. It really went against the grain to not pre-wash any of these items before loading them into the dishwasher. I'm so used to not only removing food, but also, in effect, basically cleaning the dishes before loading them into the dishwasher. However, I wanted to really test the ProScrub option on this unit. I've read a few reviews with people that complained that the dishwasher didn't clean effectively. I have to admit, those reviews made me somewhat hesitant seeing that this dishwasher comes at a premium price. However, all those fears were quickly dispelled with this one wash. As a caveat, I will say that I read the instruction manual (an online PDF) and there were directions about how to properly load the dishwasher. If you plan to allow the dishwasher to scrub dried on food on plates and cookware, there is a specific way to load the unit to increase the efficacy of the cleaning. I can imagine that if these directions aren't followed, the results may not be as expected. That being said, I loaded the pan with the dried omelet and grit-encrusted bowl, and all the other items facing towards the back of the unit. The ProScrub jets are mounted on the back of the dishwasher and truly dirty dishes and pans need to be loaded at the back facing those jets. There are also instructions on the optimal way to load plates, bowls, etc. and I pretty much followed the suggestions with the rest of this load. I even had some cooking utensils loaded into the third tray above. I ran the unit on the Heavy Duty cycle with the ProScrub option and selected ProDry. Once I pressed start and closed the door, I waited. The blue light came on and I eventually heard the slightest noise indicating the unit was actually in operation. Given that I had selected the most aggressive cleaning cycle and option, I was completely floored that the dishwasher was actually running. The blue light is obviously a smart idea that is there to prevent somebody from opening the dishwasher door while the unit is in operation. Suffice it to say that the entire time the dishwasher ran, nobody in the house really knew it was running. Upon completion of the cycle, every single dish emerged spotless and without food particles. Another important tip I gleaned from reading the manual is that the use of rinse aid is highly recommended with this dishwasher. Again, it increases the efficiency of the unit especially with regards to drying. It provides a sheeting action that will help the KitchenAid not only with the drying cycle, but also with leaving glasses and flatware completely without spots. We had some glasses that had become rather white in appearance from years of use in the old dishwasher (which I foolishly didn't use rinse agent with). The KitchenAid did not remove that white deposited material by itself. For glasses and items that have become laden with mineral deposits over time, I ran them in the dishwasher with two Affresh dishwasher cleaner tablets. I put one in the main dispenser and one table in the bottom of the tub itself. That not only cleaned the dishwasher (not that it needed it), but also cleaned the glasses and they came out crystal clear. So the bottom line for me with this dishwasher is this: KitchenAId has produced a VERY sleek, elegant dishwasher that will operate so silently you'll need to see an indicator light to really even know it's running. It absolutely will not intrude on your TV watching or entertaining while it's running. With operation this silent, you can run your dishwasher at any time of the day or night and never once disturb anybody in the house. As expected, this KitchenAid cleans dishes completely and effectively. I don't know that I'll be loading dirty dishes like I did with my trial. It goes against years of ingrained pre-cleaning for me. However, suffice it to say, it's nice to know that for those evenings when I just don't feel like pre-washing, I can load this dishwasher full of the dirtiest dishes and they will emerge spotless and dry. With dishes that I've already rinsed off before loading, they will emerge even more clean than I ever could have achieved by hot water and Dawn alone. If I had it to do all over again, I'd purchase this dishwasher without hesitation. I highly recommend this KitchenAid!

Not super quiet; leaves some food.

    1) The top two racks are not deep enough. A ladle cannot fit in the cutlery rack. Water bottles cannot fit in the glasses/bowls rack unless you take out the cutlery rack. 2) This is not super quiet. I've owned super quiet dishwashers, and this is not. Standing the kitchen talking to one person, I can totally hear the dishwasher running. It's not loud, but I can hear it easily. 3) This does not get every bit of food off. It left melted cheese in a glass baking dish and rice noodles in a stainless steel pot. It also leaves some residue in the bottoms of the water bottles. The prongs on the racks are widely spaced, and my thick Fiestaware dishes fit easily.

    KUDE60FXSS was replaced with 70FXSS

We bought the KUDE60 which has been replaced by the KUDE70. As long as nothing major changed this review should apply. The "Pacific Sales" Salesman at our North Texas Best Buy knew a lot about the different machines on display. He even knew the 70 was going to replace the 60. He called it a never-gets-returned-machine and I see why. SO QUIET I can sit on the floor next to it and carry on a conversation with people in the next room. So well built it's amazing. Everything is solid and substantial. We tend to let our dishes Air Dry so I won't talk about the "drying" of the dishes BUT they are so CLEAN the water doesn't spot much anyway. It runs about the same length of time as the Maytag it replaced but the results are completely different. The only down side to the entire purchase was Pacific Sales' new method of contacting me with the Delivery/Install date and time. A MACHINE calls me and gives the day and time window then states I need to call some 800# to confirm someone over 18 will be home during that time. I'M DRIVING YOU STUPID MACHINE!! Can't jot down your number.... Ended up going back to Best Buy so they could call and confirm the appointment for me. Apparently Pacific Sales has gotten too big. Customer Service would amount to PEOPLE calling PEOPLE to verify appointments NOT a machine. The delivery and Install were uneventful and despite the lack of Customer Service forethought, I'm giving top ranks to this purchase. This machine is awesome!!!

    avoid--low quality plastic parts-expensive repairs

I've had this Kitchenaid KUDE30FXSS for 2.5 years now. The plastic rack parts (adjustable rack on this model# do not stand up to normal wear--especially heat from the drying cycle. I've had to replace multiple parts #clips; slide roller/adjustment mechanisms# that broke or rotted and fell off #close to $100 in parts so far#. The machine has broken 3 times so far because the 'grinder' has had to be repaired/replaced--when something small and hard makes it through the grate #like a piece of a rotted plastic rack clip#, the blade jams and twists itself off the motor shaft--then the pump clogs and water doesn't circulate properly #symptom: stuff in top rack doesn't get clean#. The Kitchenaid this replaced lasted 34 years; If I didn't have a friend in the business, this one would already be gone. I don't know when they'll stop making these rack parts, but I'll have to replace this piece of junk when they do--or when the next grinder blade failure takes the motor or pump with it.

This is the worst dishwasher I have ever owned in terms of cleaning the dishes! Did not know that this day and time that there would be a dishwasher (esp one that expensive) that did not clean the dishes. I am a germaphobe, so this is disguisting to me. No matter how I try to load, ie. nothing overlapping, touching, overloaded, etc. it just does not clean the dishes! It is easy to load compared to the Asko I had to replace. I do love the 3rd silverware rack and the fact that you can move the top rack to fit more in. If it just cleaned the dishes! I have to hand scrub the dishes before I load them and am still surprised that some dishes don't even look like they have been touched by water !

Zero Customer Suport from BB and Kitchen

Bought one last November. Never worked correctly and made dishes dirtier after a load. Tried everything. I travel for work 4 days a week. By the time I figured out that the machine was not working 4 months had passed. Contacted BB Service and they told me they couldn't help me (without added warranty) and to contact Kitchen Aid. K.A. sent service company who told me machine was five years old based on serial number and tired to charge me for the diagnosis. BB denied machine age but referred me back to KA. KA missed two service appointments. Ended up ripping out DW and bought a different brand. Sad to realize how poor service standards were from both BB and KA.
