I don't love this product. It helped, sure. But I feel like it could've done a better job. If you have to use it, go for it. I had better luck with this one than with my last range extenders, so there is that.

I have had unit this for a few months now and have to constantly reset both my router and this unit as it causes my router to drop internet connectivity. Before this unit was added I never had any issues with my router (Linksys AC1900) but I did have coverage issues on the 5ghz band (which I use mainly for my phone, tablet, & TV). I added this hoping to solve this issue. While I have connectivity it works great, with amazing speeds and coverage. But then either the extender drops connection to the router or the router drops the connection to the modem. When using a wired connection for my ps4 it will work for all of 5 minutes before my ps4 drops the connection to the extender. I am quite familiar with networking and the relative equipment so I have played with all the settings to try to correct the problem including firmware checks and location, but nothing seems to fix the issue. I have been a firm Linksys fan for the better part 10 years but this is the first time I've encountered any issues like this.

      Hi Barry,

Your feedback means a lot to us and we would like to offer our assistance so you may have a stable extended Wi-Fi connection. Here are the possible solutions that you may do:

      * Place it in an area where there is still good connection from the router.
      * Use a handheld device (phone or tablet) to check for your router's signal strength. Once you can find a place where there is still 2-3 bars signal, then that's the perfect location for your extender.
      * Set your router to use a permanent wireless channel to avoid possible interference in your network. Download the Wifi AnalyzerApp. It helps you to find a less crowded channel for your wireless router.
*Update or re-flash the firmware. Reset and reconfigure it afterwards.

If the connection will not improve, you can send us an email at LinksysCares@linksys.com with your contact details, location, and the link to this review so that we can assist you further.

I've had this for about a year now. This is easy to set up and does a great job to boost the signal. It's nowhere near as good as the original wifi signal, and don't bother using the Ethernet ports. It now has to be reset every few days to keep a strong internet connection.

Not sure if it every did connect right, but seems to be working so far. Do like the size of unit and does have a good range seems like. Will see how it goes.

This product says (the light will flash for 3-5 minutes then you can begin set up. On initial set up it flashed for 45 minutes (not exaggerating). After a recent power outage and it had to be power cycled to connect again, it took nearly 30 minutes to stop flashing. It must stop flashing before you can see it on the Linksys webpage to get it connected. Once connected it is very powerful. I have 968 mbps from my provider. This thing broadcasts that speed upstairs in my home at full capacity for 7 devices when all the family is home and upstairs.

Bought this on the advice of the Best Buy online Tech agent. Was looking for the best way to extend/boost wifi throughout my bigger 2-story house. Had a hard time getting it to connect to my current wifi network. Had to call Linksys customer support. Then, and only then, was I told that this router had to be within 30 feet of the base. AND, it only pushes 50% of the signal. *sigh* Just not what I need. Returned it.

To begin with, I will admit that before I experimented with range extenders as a means to expand my wireless network I did not do adequate research on how well these devices work for the purpose they serve. The Linksys range extender did boost the range of my network, but, like all range extenders, it cut the speed of my network significantly. If you just do light web browsing this would work well, but if you do things like heavy gaming or Steam In-Home Streaming, I would look into other options, such as having a wired network installed in your home.

      Hi,

We appreciate the time that you've spent in writing this review and letting us know about your comments on the product. Indeed, range extenders extends the wireless signal but it also cuts the bandwidth in half thus affecting the speed when being used for heavy gaming. If it's too slow though, there may be some settings that we can tweak on. Should you need our help, you may email us at LinksysCares@linksys.com along with your email address and we will be glad to do so. Kindly include the link to this post in your email for our reference.

Bad internet provider is bad internet provider. This does strengthen several areas of the concrete walled condo I live in ... but there are no miracles. When I walk from upstairs (where the base Internet Wifi is located) to the downstairs (where this range extender is located) it seems to hesitate and sometimes drop my FaceTime call in progress. If I stay in the area, no problem. It was really easy to setup and only needs an electric plug. Bonus I used it to provide a wired connection to my Satellite provider box on the ground floor.

      Hi Eric,

As long as properly configured and equipped with the latest firmware, the Linksys RE6500 should eliminate dead spots & extends the existing Wi-Fi network of your router. Our Escalation Engineers would love to help you out and learn what's causing this to happen. Please send us an email at LinksysCares@linksys.com with your contact details and the link to this review for our easy reference.

It works pretty good as long as I have it in range of my router. The only thing is that it is hard to know if it is getting the signal from my router. Sometimes it loses the signal from my router and I can't tell. It only has a light on when it has power. It would be nice if it had some kind of light to tell me that it is getting the wi-fi signal from my router. I would probably recommend to just buy a better router with a longer range.

      Hi, Mikey77,

The Power/WPS LED status should be able to help you identify if the range extender is online. You may refer to this article to know what the light means: http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=136115

I was having problems with my wifi reaching the bedrooms. I looked at a lot of extenders and the reviews on this one were really good. Just a few so so reviews sprinkled in. After my experience the so so reviews were dead on. Setup was a breeze, but the area where the program had me place the extender was pretty close to my router. I have a little better signal in the bedrooms. Enough to do what I need.

      Hi, Forty,

Based on your description, it looks like you are referring to the Spot Finder feature of the RE6500. This helps you determine the optimal placement of the unit. However, if you wish to transfer it, then you can. Just ensure that the signal between the router and the range extender will not be compromised. Should you have questions or if you need our assistance, please reach out to us at LinksysCares@linksys.com so we can get you over to our Escalation Engineers.

I needed a boost to my home WiFi signal because my modem and router were at one end of my house and a room used to view a TV (wireless DVD player) was on the other. I was assured that this booster would easily take care of the problem. Well, it does, most of the time, but not all of the time. I figured for over $100 I would see a significant improvement of my signal, but it just wasn't there. Sorry but I'm just a bit underwhelmed.
