Update from a Maytag 9000 series

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I got this washer, because my Maytag 9000 series was out of warranty. Nothing was wrong with it, just wanted a new one Incase it broke down. My family has always purchased Maytag washers. I refused to break the tradition. When the first one arrived, (yes I had to send the first one back) it wasn’t leveled properly. After having Best Buy fix it, I felt everything was a go. The delivery guys might have banged the appliance upon delivery. For when I went to do a wash, it got stuck in spin cycle for almost 12 mins. The machine produced a funny smell. Like something was burning. Keep in mind, this was spinning on high for 12 mins consecutively! I called up Best Buy, with no hassle, it was replaced in 2 days. Now that it’s all leveled, this machine works pretty good. My Maytag 9000 series was a 4.3 with a lot of features. This model does have some good features as well. The extra power button, really washes your clothes GREAT! It works on any cycle. I really like how it senses the weight. This model uses more water than the 9000 series, but still doesn’t over do it. The machine is fairly quiet. You only know it’s on, when it’s filling up with water. The spin cycle is really really quiet. Im a little puzzled if this machine has Max Extract Spin. You can’t tell, because it’s so quiet! If it doesn’t, I’ll be in total shock. My old machine had max extract and didn’t get water out of the clothes the way this machine does. I absolutely love how it gets the clothes fully wet, before dispensing the soap!! You really get a descent lather. I do have some dislikes. 1. The fresh hold feature doesn’t work the way the 9000 model does. The older model would let you pause the fresh hold feature incase you only wanted to take a few items out at a time. This model stops as soon as you open the door or stop the machine. 2. No soak cycle 3. The drain house is at the bottom of the machine. Which means you’re probably going to need an attachment house. 3. The door is tinted black and plastic. Not what I expected. 4. No Powerwash But to be completely honest, those dislikes won’t make this machine unbearable or any less desirable. This machine thus fare is living up to the Maytag legacy. I’ll do an update in a year, or sooner if something goes wrong. I honestly doubt this machine will give me problems. My family has used Maytag washers since the 30’s. No one has ever returned them yet. And no, I’m not a Maytag employee. I just love when a brand makes a product that WORKS!

I'm thrilled with my Maytag washer! The purchase was a breeze, and the installation team was prompt and professional. It's been a game-changer in my laundry routine. The machine's various settings and capacity are impressive. It handles everything from delicate fabrics to heavy loads with ease, ensuring clean and fresh-smelling clothes. The energy efficiency is a bonus, saving on bills. The quiet operation is a pleasant surprise too. Maytag's reputation for reliability seems well-deserved. Overall, this washer purchase and installation have truly simplified my life, making laundry day a less daunting task. I couldn't be happier with my choice.

I bought this to replace a similar model Maytag that broke after 2 years. It includes larger capacity, steam and fresh hold-white that weren't built into the previous one. This model is quieter and does not buck during spin cycle. Performance so far is excellent. The installation technicians were absolutely wonderful, knowledgeable and answered all my questions.

This is my first Maytag washer. It is quiet and gets the clothes clean. I feel like the wash time for soiled clothing is a bit long, but better to get them clean the first time. The capacity is perfect to fit a few of my husbands work pants and shirts. Now I can do my laundry in just a few loads and be done, rather than a bunch of loads and it takes me all day. I have had it for a couple weeks and so far I am satisfied.

We have had this washing machine for just about a week and i really wish it came with a user manual. We had our maytag Neptune for over 20 years and obviously the technology is totally different thesr days. I love the washer and i find that it seems to clean the clothes very well. When using the preset cycles, i.e. delicates, the clothes come out of the washer very wet. I know that it prevents harming the clothes but they are dripping! One thing i must say is that this machine is huge! I can put what i think is a normal size load in only to find that i must split it on half to dry! I wish that we were in a position to purchase the matching dryet...but that's not an option at this time. All in all i definitely live it and it is so quiet! I would recommend that if you need a well made machine that works well and is large don't think twice about purchasing this one! Also, Best Buy service is top motch. They sent texts to keep us updated on delivery time and the delivery man called us to let us know when he would be here. And they arrived 5 minutes early! Great system and the installation was perfect...the installer ran it through a cycle before leaving to be sure it was working perfectly. I would definitely buy appliances from Best Buy again!

As is the case with the matching large gas dryer, no simple instructions were included. There are so many features that it is really difficult to guess what they mean, in particular when you combine them. No how-to manual is included, and none is available online. See my review of the gas dryer for my solution, I did the same for the washer. Very quiet. Takes a long time compared to other washers I have had or used. Maybe will turn out to be gentler on the items being washed? After I obtained the information on what the various controls do, the washer was easy to use. But the big Extra Power's action is not deducible: it makes a kind of prewash longer to agitate the clothes longer in the detergent hence clean them better? I don't know how someone could deduce that. There are brief descriptions in one section of downloadable information from the Maytag web site, but this is really stupid. Just include one page of directions. It does a very good job cleaning really dirty clothes, Whites are whiter, colors are brighter! I'm not making this up and I'm not being paid to say this. Wonderful washer.

It's a bit early to review this product. The washer seems to clean clothes well and is relatively quiet. I anticipate using the extra spin cycle feature with larger loads because at the end of the wash cycle clothes seem wetter than expected.

I haven't had it that long, but so far it's working great. But I have to say it's nothing like the old Maytag front loader I had. Maybe I will just have to get used to all the new controls on it. I do have to say it is much bigger than my other washer, and I like that a lot! It also cleans very well. Quite also.

    Maytag by Name only

It's a Maytag in name, but not in quality. I replaced a 20-year-old Maytag with this model and could immediately notice the difference in build quality. It's made of cheaper, thinner materials and is therefore louder when filling/running. There are also a few functionality quirks that are less desirable than my old washer: 1) You have to turn the power on every time you use it. This makes no sense. Even my 20-year-old washer was smart enough to know that if I opened the door, I'm probably about to do a load of laundry, so it would power on automatically. 2) You have to hold the 'Start' button for 3 seconds in order to start the cycle. This is annoying. Don't hold me hostage, just start the wash! 3) The cycle times are very long. My old washer cycles would be from 40-90 minutes, depending on settings. This washer has a cycle time of 2 HOURS for the Towels setting. There are tweaks & settings you can adjust to lower this value, but wow... I expected a newer washer to be quicker & more efficient... not slower. 4) The end-cycle chime is way too soft, even at its highest setting. If I have the laundry room door closed, I can't hear the chime in the very next room. So, I often end up with clothes sitting in the washer for 10-30 minutes because I don't realize that the cycle is finished. This was not a problem on my old washer. On the upside, it can hold much larger loads than my previous washing machine. I can wash my mattress cover in it without cramming it in so tight, so now it has plenty of room to tumble which makes me feel like it's getting a better wash. Overall, I give this washer an 'Average' score. There are some quirks about this washer that makes you wonder if the designers actually ever used it to do a load of laundry in a normal house. Also, I don't expect it to last half as long as my previous Maytag... which was still running great after 20 years but was beginning to rust around the bleach dispenser. The new one just doesn't have the standard Maytag build quality of yesteryear. You can definitely tell the difference since Whirlpool bought them out.

This a very good washer. The clothes come out very clean each time and it is quiet. I did buy the Geek Squad protection plan. After one year the fabric softener stop dispensing. Multiple attempts were made to fix the issue, but were unsuccessful. It was declared a "lemon" and was replaced with a brand new washer (same make & model). Matag is a great brand and the replacement process was a smooth. I would recommend this washer.

Worst washer ever Maytag 4.8 Cu. Model: MHW6630HC2

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased the Maytag 4.8 Cu. Ft. High Efficiency Stackable Front Load Washer with Steam and Fresh Hold (Model: MHW6630HC2) from Best Buy in 2020, hoping for a reliable and efficient laundry solution. Unfortunately, my experience has been nothing short of frustrating. From the very beginning, the washer displayed an "SD" error code, indicating an issue with excessive suds. Despite following the manufacturer's guidelines for detergent use, the error persisted, rendering the machine practically unusable. It's incredibly disappointing to invest in a new washer expecting it to function correctly, only to find it constantly malfunctioning. Instead of simplifying my laundry routine, this washer has become more of a decorative piece in my home. Its sleek, metallic design and high-end features like steam and Fresh Hold were enticing, but they mean little when the washer fails to perform its basic function. To cope, my family and I have been forced to use a laundromat for our laundry needs, which is inconvenient and defeats the purpose of having a home washer. Adding to the frustration, each service technician visit costs between $300 to $400, and I've had technicians come out four times already. Despite these visits, the problem remains unresolved. The continuous SD error has not only caused inconvenience but also additional costs and wasted time. To make matters worse, even when running the washer empty, with no detergent or clothes inside, the SD error still appears. This indicates a fundamental flaw in the machine that no service technician has been able to fix. I had high expectations for Maytag, a brand known for durability and performance, but this model has been nothing but problematic. I regret this purchase and would advise potential buyers to reconsider if they are looking for a reliable and hassle-free washer. This model, unfortunately, does not live up to its promises.

DO NOT BUY A WHIRLPOOL /Maytag washer.

Purchased a new washer six months ago and its always made noise in the spin cycle. When it started sounding like a DC 10 I called for service. Whirlpool has sent paradise appliance out to our house FIVE times and the are unable to repair the washer. In fact, they have attempted to replace the drum twice. First time they said the drum sent was "out of round", third visit they said they did not have the right counter weights for the drum. Fourth visit they said they needed to order another new drum. With the visit today which was # five they said whirlpool had sent another defective drum. The plastic attachment on the back was broken. Six months new and for the last four we have been unable to use our washer. Whirlpool customer service is like dialing a call and being put on hold for hours. - Terrible service and I hope you don't make the same mistake I made with a major appliance purchase.

This machine replaced a Samsung top loader (which I would not recommend to anyone). It runs quietly and smoothly. It also cleans about 5x better than the Samsung. It has great features and appears very efficient on water use and electrical use. The large capacity allows washing of a king sized comforter.

I purchased this Maytag washer as a replacement for one that was so old you couldn’t get parts. It was still working great but the dryer died. I replaced both units. This washer is much quieter than the old one and gets clothes very clean. Easy to use different settings. Just turn the dial to select cleaning cycles and push the start button.

It does take a little longer than a top loading to wash, but I read standard with and my first front loading machine. But the clothes come out very clean, less time to dry due to a better spin cycle. I have had issues in the past where a tide pod or other detergent has not always rinsed out in a top loader leaving traces on the clothes and having to rinse again. No issue with that on this one. Had less than a month, but works great so far! If my laundry room shelves would have permitted the pedestals would have been tempting it is a little bit of bending, but no less than a dryer I suppose. I was told moisture can collect at the seals and mildew in front loaders. I have not noticed this at all but have kept door open sometimes to let thoroughly dry just in case. I will say this. A top loader if anyone noticed at the top of the basket and inside has way more issues of collecting soap, funk, mold, harder to clean etc. So I do not find this an issue at all. As for price, on par or less than some high end top loaders as well. Very happy with the purchase.

This washer is far quieter than others we’ve experienced (LG, older Whirlpool). There is essentially no vibration during spin and clothes come out very dry. Controls are simple and intuitive. It also has a large capacity. We had Maytags in our last home for over fifteen years and they were bulletproof. I am expecting a repeat performance.

The Maytag washer is relatively quiet, particularly appreciated during fast spin mode. The capacity for a front load machine is really good. Clothes come out clean. I like the extra power feature for particularly dirty clothes loads. Controls are easy to understand and use.
