    Great Protection Without The Bulk

When it comes to smart phone cases, it boils down to two brands, two purposes: heavy duty impact protection, or fluid protection. Enter Otter Case, or Lifeproof. I work with my hands for a living, and have been using Otter Defender cases for years. However, folks have been telling me their symmetry cases are very good in the protection category, whilst cutting down on the weight and bulk. Then I saw the Nebula case, and being a fiend of astronomy I had to have it. Well no regrets here! The case definitely adds sturdy protection. Enough to avert damage from falls, and the new symmetry cases include a built in popsocket which is interchangeable (black hole pop socket incoming!). I’m new to the world of popsockets, and now wonder how I have been operating my phone without one. These cases do not provide screen protection, which is the only downside. I feel OC should have included one, even if it meant increasing the price of the case. I ended up using the Whitestone adhesive tempered glass screen protector, and am very pleased with the total package.

I am very particular about my cases, and usually can’t find any i like at any physical store. I like military grade, screw-on types, etc., but this case was an exception. The integrated pop socket makes it easy to mount with the purchase of the pop socket ring. It also makes it easier to hold on to when you don’t want to lose hold of your device. I also love the look and the feel of it. Slim yet tough against drops and damage. Now i just need to get some other colors. Might get me a blue one also.

Great case with built in PopSocket!

This case is pretty good! I am not usually one for the “pop” attachments for phones, but when it is built into the case, I have pretty much zero complaints! Packaging: Pretty basic and as expected. The case is inside a slide out box which has all the info you might need on it. My review unit came with an additional PopSocket to demonstrate how the they can be switched out. So I got the black case, a black pop attachment and a zebra print pop attachment. Case build quality: I am usually a big fan of slim and / or TPU style cases. This one is mostly hard plastic on the back with very firm rubber on the sides. It does not appear to have any gel layer. The fit on the phone is very tight and it will be somewhat hard to remove from the phone as a result. This is a good or bad thing depending on your preference. I did like that the tight fit kept it somewhat slim. Use: The ports are all easily accessed with the exception of the vibration switch which you will need to dig in with your fingernail to reach. Color accents from the phone are extremely well covered up with this case so it might not matter what phone color you get if you decide to buy this case. I would like to have seen a fabric or gel layer on the inside of the case, the hard plastic rubs again the phone which has me questioning if it might cause scratches down the road. Luckily all parts of the case are nicely finished with no rough edges. As stated, this case is a little bulky on an already bulky phone, but that's where the PopSocket comes in. It is built into the case and is hardly noticeable when collapsed. When expanded, it is extremely useful allowing you to handle your phone in a much more controlled manner. When collapsed, you can twist it and it will come off allowing you to change it out with another design. Pretty cool if you are into that, I’m boring so I will stick with the default one. Great work on this feature! Summary: This is a pretty good case overall. I would say it is almost perfect if it wasn’t for the bulk, lack of inner lining layer and hard to reach vibration switch. If those were good I would give it a 5 but took a star away. This might sound like an overly critical review but I highly recommend the product and think it is one of the better ones out there. It provides great piece of mine on your phone from drops due to the durable construction and addition of the PopSocket handle for better control. Great job Otter Box!

PopSocket case! But undermined by weight...

I've never used PopSockets before. I always have used a case on my phone, such as from the Urban Armor Gear (UAG) or Speck brands. So, PopSockets will not work with the biggest majority of cases I've used and I NEVER use my phone naked. I usually upgrade every year (skipping this year, tho) and always like to keep my phone protected. When I discovered earlier in the year that Otterbox and PopSocket was creating a case together, I was stoked and couldn't wait. I received my case (Black) last week and really wanted to put it through it's paces over the weekend. So far, I'm (mostly) loving the case. Prior to this, I was using a Speck Candyshell Grip case, which I've been using on and off over the past 6-7 years or so. When putting on the Otterbox/Pop case, I immediately noticed the extra bit of thickness and heft to my phone. So, this did take a bit of getting used to. I love the PopSocket on the back. Now, I can lay in bed and play a game on my phone with no worry of my phone slipping and popping me in the face (LOL, admit it, it happens to all of us...). It works great with one-handed games, especially. I did notice that it's not perfectly centered on the back, but about an inch lower from center. This does make it a bit hard to reach up when solo-handing the phone to touch the top of the screen (especially when gaming in say, portrait mode). On the front, it's pretty basic. It does cover the phone evenly, no gaps or anything and there is a raised lip around, so that you can lay it face-down without worry of the screen touching the surface. Also of note - I am using a Zagg Invisible Shield Glass+Vision and the case fits perfectly around it. Just make sure that if you are using this or a similar glass/diamond screen protector, make sure it is installed as straight as possible...as I feel that if this were off-kilter any, it may touch the case. Also, the buttons on the side are extremely raised and pronounced. While this make them easy to find blindly and the button press is super-tactile...they feel more squared off than rounded and can be a bit uncomfortable at times. Around back, this is where all the magic is...and also my biggest complaint about this case. There...the PopSocket. The case DOES NOT lay flat, like you'd think it does and as it is advertised. If I have the case laying on it's back, the PopSocket button is raised a bit from the case itself...so the surface touches the actual PopSocket and not the back of the actual case. This could be a blessing and a curse. It keeps the (expensive) case from getting scratched and since the PopSockets themselves are replaceable, if they ever become damaged or scratched, you can just replace them. BUT...and my issue - laying the phone/case on it's back makes it incredibly wobbly. If I tap the top or bottom of the screen while it's laying down on it's back, the whole case wobbles. It's super annoying. Now for the PopSocket itself. It will pop out (as far as I could get it to go, at least) two "clicks". I don't have fat fingers by any means, but even my "normal" male hands fill the entire middle of the accordion and touch the top/edge of the PopSocket button. It's fine, but after a while, the edges tend to dig into my fingers and become uncomfortable. So, if you are a "fat-fingered" type of person, this may not work for you. Also, where it only pops out two clicks, if you try to use it for a stand, due to the weight of the case, the PopSocket will the fall into itself and back into the first "click" position. In my experiences, with the weight of the case + phone, it's impossible to use the extended PopSocket as a phone stand...again, as advertised. I've also noticed that with the extra PopSocket I received with the case...the Black/White marble one, it's looser then the black one that came pre-installed with the case. What I mean by this is, while the PopSocket in flat to the case, touching the edges of it results in it moving and having some give. I put the Black one back on and it feels perfect. Overall, I'm really having a hard time deciding if I want to give this a 3 or a 4 star rating. I'm going to go with a 4 star, just because I feel that for most people ...and those with smaller hands... the case will be fine. Just don't expect to use the PopSocket as a phone stand and keep in mind the weight of the case in general day to day use. It was definitely noticeable coming from my other case and to be honest, I'm still trying to get used to and come to terms with it. I did order 3 PopSockets from the official website and am still waiting on those to come in. I'm hoping these won't have any give around the edges like the Marble one I received. *Also, I wanted to add that I did test this case with wireless charging and have heard that it may or may not work, depending on which charger you are using. I'm using a Belkin one and it worked perfectly with it. Just keep in mind that as far as wireless charging goes, YMMV (Your Miles May Vary).

I have had a few pop sockets and I've owned multiple Otterbox cases. They have various styles, this one being their Symmetry line. I'm not a fan of the simple one piece hard pressed plastic. It looks and feels cheap. There's no padding or shock dampening inside the case that would protect it from drops. It's not a case of "You get what you paid for" to say the least. Not for this line anyways It does have an inner layer that covers the volume and power buttons but that's only the inner edge as you can see in the pictures. I also put a comparison picture showing my old phone with the Defender line Otterbox so you can see the difference in texture. It's very slippery to hold unlike their Defender line which has a rubber outer shell with the two piece plastic skeleton housing, although the popsocket attached does help once in your hand. But sitting it on any hard service this slides way too easily. The unfortunate thing is popsockets won't stick to the rubber shell of the defender series. I know how they could fix the issue and have the best of both worlds mixing the two but as for this case for the price I'd have to pass and get the popsocket alone with a better case. Overall I wouldn't recommend this case for the above reasons.

      Hey there GameOverSuckas,

We're so sorry to hear that you're not loving the Otter + Pop Symmetry series so far! While we completely understand your apprehension towards the slim style, rest assured that our cases go through an extensive amount of testing to ensure that they will provide the best device protection possible. We're confident that the case should keep your iPhone stylishly safe for the long haul!

That being said, it sounds like the sleek exterior of the Symmetry isn't quite what you're looking for. If you're interested in a PopSocket case that provides additional traction, we would suggest taking a peek at our Otter + Pop Defender series. It sounds like the rubber exterior of the Defender will be right up your alley, and you'll still be able to enjoy the integrated PopSocket! Feel free to check it out via the link below, and give our friendly Otters a call at 1-855-688-7269 if you have any other questions!

I'll start off by saying I never gave these Pop cases much thought. They seemed kind of gimmicky. Almost like the next fad in cases. However, after using the case for a bit, I'll admit, it's quite handy and not too shabby. The Otterbox Symmetry case is my favorite case period. It's slim and it aesthetically pleasing. This Symmetry Pop case isn't that much thicker than the original. The Pop case is about 2-3mm thicker than the original Symmetry case. Two things that are better on this case is the rubber is a bit more grippier which is nice. Also the buttons are raised on the Pop case so it's much easier to use than on the Symmetry case. The Pop thing is kinda useful and definitely offers a better grip over a normal Symmetry case. Using it as a stand also adds a nice benefit as well. One issue I noticed is when you use a wireless charging pad/stand. The box states there isn't any issue with this case when using a wireless charger however, with mine, the charge doesn't always connect. I have a Belkin BOOST UP charger and it worked perfectly with the regular Symmetry case. With the Pop case, sometimes the charge will engage, sometimes it won't. Technically the wireless charger does work however the added thickness of the case does impact wireless charging for me.

I really got to like the Otter+Pop Symmetry Series case for the iPhone Xs Max since day 1. The Drop Protection enhance case feels rock-solid and lies beautifully and much firmer in my hands thanks to the swappable poptop (see picture) so it won't easily drop, or, for that matter, can't be easily snatched by thieves! Even taking pictures is more fun with this case due to a much firmer grip. Watching videos is much more fun also as you can simply use the poptop as a stand (see picture). Overall, I love it, and can honestly very highly recommend it.

Always been a fan of otterbox cases and once I saw that I didn’t haven’t to purchase my usual popsocket separately, I was sold. The case still maintains a slim look and def protects my device from drops etc. the addition of the popsocket just made the purchase more worth wild. Added grip and security against dropping my phone while texting and stand for watching videos. Will definitely purchase again.

I have never really like otter box just because I don’t like thick cases but this case is SO slim. The built in pop socket is great. I’ve dropped my phone plenty of times and there’s not a scratch on the case even yet. Very durable.

Pros: This is a great case. Having an attached pop socket is makes this product nice for immediate use of all your phone functions. The pop socket is perfectly positioned and is customizable. The case fits the phone well and doesn’t add a lot of weight. Cons: The space where the pop socket is housed has indentations which allows the pop socket to be pushed in flush to the case. It’s this space which causes the problems for short fingers. You have to do too much maneuvering to keep the phone comfortable and secure in your hand. Well I did. The case is also a bit smooth and pricey.

Love the otter box cases they have always protected my phones. I bought the new iPhones with the wireless charging capabilities and also wanted to use the pop sockets. With the regular pop sockets that you stick by yourself I was not able to charge my phone wirelessly anymore so I had to remove it. Now with this case I am able to charge my phone using my wireless chargers and still have the pop socket on.
