The best super automatic I've had yet

I've been an owner of super automatic coffee makers for over 20 years now, so not a novice to this type of machine. My last two were a Saeco and a DeLonghi Magnifica. They gave me good service, the Saeco had a cycle counter and logged over 10,000 cups, and it still worked when I replaced it and handed it down. I'll be handing down the DeLonghi as well, that didn't have a counter, but for over 6 years at a minimum of 4 cups a day, more if I had visitors or guests, that also served me well. The Phillips has proven to be a welcome addition to the family. I've now upgraded to "one touch" latte capability. Well, actually, it's two touches, one to turn the machine on, then the "go" button to brew the drink. That presupposes that you have pre-programmed the machine to your particular preference. For each beverage choice there are 3 separate possibilities, and each possibility has 3 choices. For instance, for a latte, you first choose brew strength - light, medium or heavy. 2nd choice is for the size of the the beverage - small, medium, or large. 3rd choice is amount of milk foam, once again, light, medium, heavy. Once you choose your preference, the machine recalls your preferred settings, and brews the same drink. For regular coffee, you add your own milk to taste, so you only choose brew strength and cup size. The large cup size will fill an average 8 oz. size cup; however, there is an option to set max drink size if you want to fill a larger sized mug. So far, I've tried the standard coffee, espresso, cappucino, and macchiato options. All brews have been superb. I will admit to doing the wrong thing with these machines - my standard variety is Sumatra coffee, I like it because it's heavy, syrupy, and sweet without sugar. And, heavy enough that I can use it for my everyday coffee as well as pull an espresso out of it. Dunkin Donuts blend it's not. However, these are oily beans, and it's generally recommended not to use that type of bean in coffee machines with built in grinders. But, i've yet to kill a machine with Sumatra beans despite that disclaimer. When brewing an espresso, I always chose the smallest setting to deliver a "short" but in my opinion even at the small setting for this machine it delivers probably double the amount of liquid for what would be considered an espresso "ristretto". The way around this is that the machine will always cut off liquid delivery if you press the "go" button a second time. However, this is not "remembered" as a programming choice, so it's up to you to hit the button early if you want a short. Also, the machine is shipped with the grinder at the coarsest setting, so if your main brews are espresso drinks, i would suggest knocking it down a couple of notches. You can only adjust the grind while the grinder is actually functioning, so it will take a couple of brews to enjoy the full effect. Press the grinder knob down, turn it counter-clockwise for a finer grind. Speaking of the grinder, it's ceramic. And it's the quietest grinder I've yet experienced. I know that because the grinder is a signal for my dogs. They know that I'm not to be spoken to till I've had my first sip of coffee in the morning, so they wait in the bedroom till they hear the grinder going; then they know it's safe to come out for their morning treat. My wife said to me "how come the dogs didn't go out to the kitchen?" It's because they didn't pick up on the sound of the grinder! While the grinder is quiet, the foamer is not - but then again, none of them are. That is, unless you have one of those handheld battery powered whippers - but that's not one touch, no? However, the milk container is an ingenious design. If you notice, there's no tube going down to the bottom of the container to suck up the milk. I'm not going to explain how it works, whether by vacuum, capillary action, or some alien acquired principle, but it does work, and what that does is make the cleanup a lot easier. All you need do is rinse out the container, you don't have to worry about milk caking up in a hose or some crevice. Or, if there's milk left in it, the container has a cap, you can pull it off the machine & store it in the fridge for next time. Nice design. Lattes & macchiatos came out rich, full, with a long lasting foam that didn't collapse in minutes. One minor annoyance is the spacing between the coffee spout and the milk spout. Unless you have a cup with a wide enough mouth you need to inch the cup up a bit between the coffee & foam cycles otherwise one of them will spill over. You can even see them do this in some of the online demo videos on Youtube. Another minor annoyance is that the used coffee pucks need to be emptied after every dozen brews - my last two machines held 16. But, on the good side, you don't need to open a panel to do this, the tray slides out easily to deal with the trash. The addition of the Aqua filter is a nice feature. It's a recommended 3 month replacement cycle, and has a blue indicator light on the front panel. This should reduce the need for monthly descaling, as well as improve the taste of the brew. I've saved my biggest annoyance for last, and that's the instruction manual. I know it's the way they're going with most things now, but I hate those pictograms! I've included a photo below, mind you, this is a 6" high manual, and if you can make sense out of those tiny things, you're a better person than me! I mean, where's the included magnifying glass?! Jeez, would it really hurt to make a 8x11 manual with real words? This is a complicated machine! Spent a lot of wasted time trying to decipher what they're trying to depict in the 1/2" cartoons. I enjoy these about as much as all the icons on your car's instrument panel. I'll save you the trouble I went through because I went to the manual first. Just go to youtube - there are manufacturer assembly/installation videos that visually explain the setup much better than the included pamphlet. There are also videos going through making the various drinks, etc. That being said, I'm very happy with the performance of this unit so far. Hopefully it will give me the long service that my previous machines have. 10,000 cups? That's like $50,000 Starbucks dollars! I will also note that even as far back as 20 years ago, my first super automatic cost me $800, and I believe I paid that for my last 2 as well. How many things haven't gone up in price over the last 20 years, and yet have more features built in?

    Perfect coffee, Great Design

I love this coffee machine. Before this one I used to have Brim 19 Espresso maker, while I liked that machine frothing the milk in that one was a little cumbersome. This one has a perfect milk frother with great ease of use. This machine allows you to use coffee beans as well as ground coffee. I have only used it with the ground coffee. It has 5 different coffee modes: Espresso, Coffee, Americano, Cappuccino and Latte Macchiato. It also has a setting to dispense just the hot water. With every mode, you can select 1) type of coffee (beans or ground), 2) Amount of coffee, 3) Amount of milk. To me the milk frother is the best part for making the perfect Cappuccino or latte. You can also configure the temperature and quantity but that has to be done separately and can't be configured as part of each cycle. The design is very neat, easy to store and easy to clean. The grounding mechanism can be taken apart and cleaned. You need to clean and lubricate the grounding mechanism every month or so based on your usage. But again it is very easy to do. The water container comes with an aqua filter. It would have been good if the container was a little bigger but its not too bad. I have to refill it every 3-5 days. The only pain point with this machine is that every time you start it drips a little amount of water. I think this is to clean the pipes before the machine is ready to use. But most of the time, I used to forget about it and will fill the coffee which will go waste as part of this cleaning cycle. Now, I am used to it so it's not a problem. Overall, I really like this machine. At $800 it might feel a bit expensive but the functions it has, the ease of use and the the perfect coffee that it makes is worth every single penny.

    Excellent Coffee – Lousy Frother

The Philips 3200 Series LatteGo coffee maker is a pricey add to any kitchen. There’s a lot to like about how it makes espresso and coffee, but the milk frother falls short. Overall I give this 3.5 stars (rounded to 4 here). PROS • Coffee and espresso are excellent. You can customize strength, grind, temperature, and amount to your taste. I prefer strong coffees and those pod systems never suited me (though French press is still better but takes more time). • Narrow profile compared to other machines in this category. Fits better in the limited space we have. • Holds an entire 12 ounce bag of coffee beans in its hopper. • There’s a separate compartment for using pre-ground coffee to make a cup that might be different from the beans in the hopper. For example, you can store your regular beans in the hopper, but use the pre-ground compartment for making a cup of decaf. • The instructions warn you to not use flavored coffee beans or grounds. I hate flavored coffee, so to me this is a big plus. • Clean up is simple. Most of the parts are dishwasher safe. CONS • Milk frother is below average. Never froths milk as much as I like, always thinner than desired. Milk foams much thicker in the auto frother of a different machine that I own. • Milk cannot be frothed by itself without making a coffee drink. Sometimes I want frothed milk for non-coffee drinks made outside the machine – can’t be done on this model. Perhaps the version with the manual frother allows that. • Frother always leaves behind a small amount of milk in the milk container. See photo. • There should be a mark on the water tank to indicate minimum water required. Otherwise, it’s easy to assume there’s enough water remaining. The warning light to refill water comes on well before the tank is close to empty. I stuck some tape to show the minimum level needed. See photo. • The metal drip tray scratches easily. See photo. OTHER • Philips’ YouTube videos are very useful in setting up the machine rather than the diagrams in the booklet. However, the booklet contains details not covered by the videos. • The booklet also doesn’t mention that as part of maintenance you should use a coffee oil remover tablet monthly. It is mentioned by their video and in the soft copy of the manual. Regardless, no tablet was included but can be purchased on their website. Bottom line is that as long as you’re not too picky about the frothiness of your milk foam, this is an excellent coffee and espresso maker.

The Philips 3200 LatteGo Superautomatic Espresso Machine is a great coffee machine able to brew 5 specialty coffee types Espresso, Coffee, Americano, Late Macchiato and Cappuccino as well as hot water. Each drink has it’s own button selectable on the front panel. A proprietary water filter is supplied, Philips calls it the Aquaclean system; it does water conditioning and filtration. The system monitors itself and lasts about 5000 cups. The 64 oz water tank is large enough for several coffee drinks as is the 10 oz coffee hopper. The front panel also sports Adjustable dose(coffee volume), aroma (water volume) and milk volume. The milk system is a fantastic innovation, cleaning is easy with the 3 piece system it has no tubes so cleaning is simple. The whole thing attaches easily and works great. At first the coffee was a little weak even with max settings and fine grind but the system seems to adjust itself after about 5 brews. The coffee is excellent now. This system does Preinfusion that wets the coffee to give better extraction. Cons The maximum coffee volume is not as large as my other super automatic in coffee mode with a single grind/brew cycle, in order to get 8 ounces you press the button twice the machine grinds then brews 4 oz then repeats the cycle a second time. The Espresso and Americano also have this feature. The milk drinks are a good volume. Pros The LatteGo milk system makes the milk based coffee drinks a joy. The removable brew group making it easy to access for cleaning unlike many other machines. The water tank loads from the front and slides out, no top to remove or break and easy to fill Phillips designed this machine for ease of use and they succeeded. All this is packed into a compact great looking machine. For the price this is a great super-automatic. It is a great machine to add to your office or kitchen! If you love coffee and want to ditch the trips to Starbucks I highly recommend this machine.

A advanced coffee machine that could use some upda

My grandmother lives for her daily coffee. She gets up early and has it with toast, then later in the morning she has another cup, and she continues getting it late into the evening. It’s a comfort to her that she has it when she wants it everyday. Last Christmas, I gave her what I thought was a high-quality coffee maker, but here we are not even a year later and it started leaking from the bottom and she only gets a partial cup of coffee. That’s when I thought upgrading to this advanced coffee making system might be a smart move. The Philips Espresso Machine does a lot more than make espresso. It can make six different kinds of coffee beverages including plain old coffee. There is minimal assembly required to get started. I think it only took me about 10 minutes to have it ready to make its first cup. One of the most appealing features about this coffee maker it that it also grinds its own beans. You have the option to add coffee grounds if you like, but to me there’s nothing like freshly ground coffee beans. There are a lot of options with this coffee maker. For example, you have the option of setting how hard or soft your water is so the machine will compensate for that. That said, it’s not difficult to set-up -- it just takes some patience. Once it was set-up, I showed my grandmother how to use it. It threw her a little bit when she found out she didn’t have to put water or coffee in every single time she used it, but she loves the quality of the coffee that is dispensed. The machine is quite loud when it operates, but clean-up is very easy. I love the milk frother and while we don’t use it often, it’s great to have that feature available because it keeps my fiance from spending $5 per cup on Starbucks lattes. I do have a couple of complaints about this coffee maker. First, the adjustable spot doesn’t allow for a tall travel mug to be used. I use one nearly every day and now I have to make the coffee in one cup and transfer it to the travel mug. It’s an extra step that I eliminated several years ago when I switched to a single-serve coffee machine that accommodate for that. Second, the amount of coffee that is dispensed is regulated strangely. I realize that the ‘cups’ we used these days are not the ‘standard’ size for a coffee cup. Many regular coffee mugs are around 8 ounces. I typically use a mug that holds 12-16 ounces. We’ve found that even when we set the quantity button on the machine to maximum, it doesn’t fill a standard cup. I would love to see Philips change how coffee is dispensed to be measured by ounces. That seems like it would be a lot more logical and easier for consumers to judge where to set the machine. I love the options that this machine provides and the quality of the product it makes, but I was disappointed that it wasn’t the ‘perfect’ solution for my grandmother to use (because it doesn’t dispense right the first time). It’s not a deal-breaker but it comes pretty close.

Purchased for automatic latte machine but very disappointed. Defective one delivered and return issued: (1) a big gap b/w rear panel and main body where inside can be seen through, and (2) chips or poor finishing on the coffee grinder lid. General impression of construction/assembly/packaging is poor.

Just picked this item up today and inspected the interior and pieces to figure out how to put it together. Saw something sticky and thought it was just glue that I can easily peel off but it was not. Super oily and everywhere inside the device. Did not try using the product yet so this review is just based off of how it came in the box.

I’m sure anyone looking at purchasing this machine knows a thing or two about brewing coffee, but if not here goes. This is a great machine, and has an insane amount of options to brew that perfect cup of Joe. With that being said, I found that it was a tad complicated to get going, and the included manual didn’t do a great job of helping get started. Now, to be fair this is the first espresso machine I have ever used, I normally use regular coffee brewers, French presses, or Keurigs. My family was very excited to get his setup and begin brewing some coffee. I can say that this would definitely keep most people from needing to head to their local coffee spot. It will take care of pretty much any kinda of coffee variant you could want. Plus, it has so many fine tuning options to make it just the way you want. The control panel is pretty easy to use, and the actual assembly is pretty simple as well. I think once you get over that first intimidating initial learning curve, it’s smooth sailing to be able to use this on a daily basis. My wife and I have loved using it, and would definitely recommend it.

When I thought it couldn’t get any better than the Nespresso machine, this LatteGo takes my espresso game to the next level. Pros: • Fast start to finish • Easy fill water tank • Easy clean milk container • Relatively small counter space footprint Cons: • Buttons could be better • Manual is a bit confusing and lacking in detail I love espresso and I always thought the Nespresso was the only way to go for a fast shot but this LatteGo changed the game! It takes about a minute to warm up and between 2-3 minutes for your drink of choice. Nothing beats fresh ground beans and this machine does it all. My friends have a full espresso machine where you can grind the beans, tamp the grounds and use hot steam to foam the milk. All fine and dandy but very “hands on” and time consuming. LatteGo is a one-button push, rinse your milk container and go! It’s as fast as a k-cup and Nespresso from a cold start. Before LatteGo, I would make a ristretto espresso from my Nespresso and froth my milk from a stand-alone milk heater and frother. Which is fine but the clean up of the milk frother can be a burden. LatteGo has made it so simple to make beverages that it’s now my go-to for my caffeine fix. Initial setup was easy and making a Macchiato was a breeze. Turn on machine, fill milk container, hit button and a magical 3 distinct layers of a macchiato can be had in just 3 minutes. The cleaning of the milk container is where this machine differentiates itself from other one-touch machines. No weird hoses or small openings to clean. Just 2 parts to run under a stream of water for a few seconds and done! I do recommend this espresso machine for the on-the-run families who demands speed, taste and simplicity.

What I love about it: - Delicious Cappuccino - Great Espresso - Ease of cleaning (most parts are dishwasher safe) - Signal for when the water is low - Compact What is not impressive: - Americano - If you pay $800 for a coffee machine, my guess is that you won't like the Americano this machine makes. - Noice level - Late and Cappuccino are very similar and a little foamy for both What I would change: - Everything has a signal, except for when you are low on coffee. It will continue making coffee for you without coffee beans - The milk container - I wish the led would close tied so neither it would spill in the fridge, nor it would smell like the fridge the next day. (This is a big one. I have to wash and redo the milk every day because the milk doesn't stay fresh in it)

The machine is a little loud during normal coffee, expresso making and louder during cappuccino making. However, this is a product of pushing high pressure steam and/or water through milk and ground coffee beans. The water reservoir is a good size as well as the spent coffee buck bin and easy to change. The milk frother design is genius. It works great and cleans very easily. It makes the machine EXTRA worth it. The toughest part is getting the machine dialed in which could take some time. You should watch the video to help set it up, which is not to hard but it is not common sense. There are also 1 or 2 things you want to avoid like don't adjust the bean grinder while not grinding and not by more than 1 click at a time...I think that was it but check the directions for the pitfall. I read a lot of reviews and people complain about ridiculous stuff or they have done something wrong. The machine is not cheap but for all you get, it is well worth it and much cheaper than the fancy machines which are 2 or 3 times the cost. Yes, there is a lot of plastic. The buttons are more of a slight pressure and maybe register heat from your fingers. I have no issues like some people complained about. Well, enjoy.

I purchased this machine after knowing what I wanted in a coffee maker: 1. Coffee shop quality drinks, consistently 2. Ease of use, minimum daily set up 3. Ease of cleaning 4. Variety of milk based drinks The main reason you'll love this machine is that it makes a variety of coffees and milk based drinks at a push of a few buttons. This machine did not disappoint. My wife likes the milk-based drinks, for which this machine offers two varieties. I drink them all, including the classic coffee The output quality is high, and it's comparable to the quality from professional machines and many home base machines. I challenged my sister-in-law who owns a Breville machine ($600) to a coffee making contest, and this machine consistently outputs high quality coffee, that is indistinguishable from the Breville. The traditional espresso makers like Breville that requires multiple steps of grinding, tamping, temperature adjustments, etc causes you to have varying consistencies of quality, and ultimately takes a lot of time. When comparing the coffee grounds, you could tell that the "puck" is consistent coming from this machine, whereas the manual machines is up to the operator to consistently get it correctly. The main benefit of this machine is its complete hands-off approach to making milk-based coffees. The best feature is the milk frother. It makes steam milk and/or froth. Your only involvement is literally adding the water, milk and coffee beans. The grinder has 12 settings, and the factory default setting is perfect for all the drinks. Ymmv on the ground quality depending on the beans and your preferences, but you may need to adjust the ground for each type of coffee. Cleaning is simple. In fact it does not even need a daily cleaning. You can empty your wastewater tray and ground tray, once every 6 cups or so. Because the coffee ground puck is consistently dry, a quick dump into the compost bin usually removes all the waste and then a quick rinse under the faucet is usually sufficient. The wastewater tray has a spout for an easy drip free pour. The milk frother is a two-piece set that is machine washable. I hand wash the frother daily, which takes less than a minute of soapy water and rinse. About once a month, you will need to oil the machine by taking a cartridge out. And eventually you will need to replace the water filter and run descaling solution, typical for most premium machines. Lastly, you should only seriously consider buying this if you love coffee and varieties of coffee that it offers. You have to be able to justify the pricing. This is what hooked me on to it. If you buy lattes, The machine pays off itself after about 130 cups. My wife only hated the price, but her daily enjoyment of her latte or cappuccino is reluctantly shown in her face when she sips it every morning. Aside from the pre-programmed drinks, you can also have the machine just make the froth or steamed milk for hot chocolate, macha lattes, and other non-coffee-based drinks that requires hot milk by simply setting the machine to use pre-ground coffee, wait for the milk cycles to end, and then pushing the stop button.

I would recommend this to a friend
