I've been on a home automation binge recently and have gotten a bunch of cameras, thermostat, etc., all in order to make my home a bit more accessible and "smart". One of the biggest concerns for me is water damage. Seeing as I live in a 3 story condo, I can't really be sure of what my neighbors do or how their appliances are maintained. There was an incident a few months earlier where one of my neighbors had a pipe burst and caused a bunch of damage to their place. My place is pretty much up to code on things so not really concerned about pipes bursting however, my appliances are what concern me the most. Water sensors were the next thing to pick up for my place and this two pack fit the bill. I placed one near my water heater and one by my washing machine. I tested these out using a plate of water and they seemed to work as intended. There is an audible alarm once water is detected as well as smart phone notifications. These are pretty small so they will fit just about anywhere water damage could occur. These are battery operated however there is a low battery notification to remind you to replace them whenever the time comes. The biggest issue for me is that these aren't Homekit or Alexa enabled. I'm sure these should be over time or with a future update. Issue here is that there is just another smartphone app that's needed for this.

It’s not the best thing out there. Does not alert till water is fully under water, by that time there is standing water. But does alert you.

This device is labelled as a water sensor, but it is actually much more. It also reports temperature and humidity, so alerts are sent not only if water is detected, but also if the temperature drops below a selected threshold. These features make it ideal for any place that is normally unmonitored like a basement, or even a vacation property (as long as you have Wi-Fi there that is always on when you are not there). Not too much else to say really. App setup is the normal process of downloading the app and creating an account and following step-by-step instructions. The QR code recognition does seem to work during the setup process at this point in time, so you have to skip that step for now to get things working. I assume an app update will fix this hopefully in the near future. Aside from that nuisance, these just work, push and text notifications are used to alert you, battery life is 1-2 years on AA batteries which are included. Easy recommendation for anyone who has a concern about water leaks in unattended areas of their properties.

The Phyn Smart Water Sensor 2-pack provides me with one sensor I can use for my main floor and one for my basement. Setup: Setup worked but the app asked me to scan the QR code on the back of the sensor with my phone camera but it did not work. It then asked me to enter the letters and numbers shown below the QR code but that did not work either. It kept saying the code was incorrect. I tried entering zeroes and O's different times to make sure that was not the problem. I then selected to skip this part of the setup and when I added the sensor to my wifi it then picked up the data it needed to add the sensor to the app. I then gave each sensor a name associated with the room where the sensor is located. The app allows you to select either push notifications, text notifications or both. You can also change setting from the default for low temp and low/high humidity settings to check to be alerted. This could alert you if your air conditioning was not working in the summer or if temps dropped too low in the winter and could possibly cause your pipes to freeze or your pets to be impacted if you are away from home. App: The app shows current temperature and humidity for the last time the sensor was tripped, the button was pushed or some other way that I don't know. I assume it doesn't check the temp and humidity on a more regular basis since that would keep the battery from lasting up to two years as shown on the box. There is a place on the app for the last collected temp and humidity as well as a bell icon where any active notifications are shown until they are moved to the resolved tab. Water/leak detection testing: I tested the sensors by putting them in a sink and running water until it got just under the sensor. The sensor immediately turned on it's audible alarm. The alarm is not as loud as I had expected but I still have the notifications on my phone which worked well. I could probably hear it in the next room but not very far. Temperature and Humidity: The temp and humidity readings were never correct on either of the sensors I set up. The humidity always shows too high on both sensors when I compare it to a couple of hygrometers I tested with. I left them for several hours to make sure they had time to adjust. I am currently running my A/C and the humidity in my house is around 40-45% upstairs and in the basement but the sensors are showing 52-54% upstairs and 60-62% in the basement which are both too high. I have tried remeasuring several times over several days and pushed the button on the Phyn sensor to force it to re-collect the temp and humidity but they are never correct. The temp is closer but still either too high or too low compared to several thermometers I have tested with. I even ordered a new thermometer/hygrometer to verify my tests and I could not get the sensor to provide accurate readings with a reasonable +-3 or 4 degrees or percent. Possibly both sensors I received are defective. I am not sure. Overall the main function of these sensors is to detect water leaks which works just fine. It would be nice if I could rely on the temperature and humidity readings as well.

Never even opened these, because the Phyn product they were purchased with, failed so miserably to do its job, and their support line, after multiple calls, only response was, "wait and see"... With unreliable products, we decided something as critical as water leak sensors had to be reilable and Phyn is anything but.

Having recently had to replace some baseboard and sheetrock following a minor bathroom leak, the idea behind the Phyn Smart Water Sensor is especially appealing in our household. These little puck-shaped devices slip easily behind toilets, under sinks, and into air conditioner drip trays to provide a reliable early warning when water or high humidity is present. The devices work well, providing almost instant notification when they come into contact with water. They also provide humidity monitoring, which also seems to work fine. Pricing is low enough that several units can be purchased and placed throughout various risk points in the home. Given the potential for very expensive damage and/or adverse health effects from undetected water leakage, I think the devices are well worthwhile. The main deficits with the system stem from the immature software. An app is available for iOS and Android (we tested the Android version) and it provides the ability to add devices along with a monitoring graph and notifications of events such as water detection. It does the job, but there are several ways it could be improved. Setup ostensibly involves scanning a QR code on the back of the device, but in my experience neither this nor the fall back method of entering the code manually worked correctly (the app said the code was incorrect). Fortunately there is another fall back method where the app can join a temporary wifi network published by the device itself, so it's not a terminal issue. The other issue with the app is that the monitoring charts are very small and there doesn't seem to be a way to zoom in to that to better see humidity. None of these issues are show stoppers and hopefully with time the software will be improved. The only other minor issue is that these devices each require a wifi connection and they only support 2.4G, so if you have a crowded 2.4G wifi environment (common with homes that have lots of smart home devices), these may add to that issue depending on how many you get. Overall I think the minor technical issues are outweighed by the cost effective monitoring these devices provide. I will be purchasing some additional units to cover other areas of our home and will sleep better knowing that they're in place. Pros: - Provides quick notification for detection of water or high humidity - Inexpensive - Battery operated and can be easily deployed anywhere in the home where wifi coverage is available. Cons: - App needs some work to help make setup and monitoring easier. - Devices cannot join 5Ghz wifi networks, so 2.4G congestion may be an issue for some.

I had a devil of a time setting these up and I think part of it was really just me and not necessarily the product. Setting up the first one was easy, not a problem at all. It asks you a few questions, you switch to its wifi, put in your password and voila it's registered. However, when I setup the second one the first one disappeared. After about 45 minutes of messing with it as it turns out I had both setup but assigned to two different homes. Once I deleted my other home "named home 2" then I was able to assign both to the same home and that was it. The manufacturer needs to simplify by asking you if you want to assign the second one to the same as the first to avoid this. Once I got it up and running things worked great. It shows you the humidity and if there is any water and other pertinent information. I put it in my sink with some water and yes it did start beeping (not loud enough to hear from another floor though) but more importantly than the beeping was that about 5 seconds or so later my phone got popups saying that there was water in the basement. This is exactly what I expected and I feel comfortable with this product after having used it for a few says and testing it out. Just don't be a dummy like me and assign each to an individual homes. Unless of course you're fortunate enough to actually own two homes of course ;) RECOMMENDED BUT PAY ATTENTION DURING SETUP!

Overall The Phyn water sensor is a simple hockey puck sized disc. It comes with a water droplet shaped LED and a tiny speaker hole on the top. 4 AA batteries, which are inserted on the bottom of the unit by removing the base. It can monitor humidity and temperature among water leaks. I put it in front of the swan cooler which brought its humidity rating to 70%, far surpassing the 50% default. However, it did notify me of the humidity within the app, I never received any type of notification outside of the app. Granted I gave the app all the permissions it asked for to operate. I then put it in the sink and sprinkled a couple of drops of water over it. Nothing. It wasn’t aware that water was resting on its top cover. It brings me to ask how water resistant is the opening in the top for the speaker. Afterwards, I closed the sink and began filling it with a small amount of water. The second that the water touched the pucks bronze feet, it lit up and chirped while also sending me a notification. Looking through the entire product line of Phyn products I realized, Phyn means to keep you locked into the Phyn ecosystem. If you want your water to shut off after your hockey puck detects a leak, there’s a phyn product for that. The app itself doesn’t let you integrate with anything else. The only possible workaround I noticed, although I couldn't link to see available options, is IFTTT. The Phyn app doesn’t offer any smart speaker integration such as Google Home or Alexa. .

Like most people who have finished basements, I have water detectors in areas where water leaks would cause major damage. The ones I bought the first time are loud, but that does nothing if you aren't home to hear it. These complimented my first purchase perfectly. I now get SMS and app notifications if a water leak is detected, if humidity goes outside my selected range, or if it gets too cold. Now notice how I said complimented and not replaced? The area where these lack is noise production. When the alarm goes off on the unit, unless you are in the same room, you probably won't hear them. However, pair them with a cheap non-WiFi product with a loud alarm and you're all set. Side note for if you use Android: The app works well, but setting up anything smart home related can be hit or miss on Android. I found that mine did not recognize the QR code or the 6 digits underneath. It does lead you through manually connecting to the WiFi hot-spot the unit creates in pairing mode, which is a nice touch. On Android though, once you get to this step, you will likely need to turn off mobile data through your cell carrier, while leaving your WiFi on. This is a step many people don't know about as our phones get smarter, but it will be the fix to getting your product to pair with your WiFi correctly. If you don't, your phone will try and send commands through your cellular connection instead of the WiFi connection, which will cause the pairing to fail.

The Phyn Smart Water Sensor allows people to have peace of mind! If they were to have a water leak this device would notify them! The device is small and easily placed in areas prone to moisture. I placed mine behind my water heater/washing machine and under my kitchen sink. The device comes with instructions to sync it up with a wifi connection. The app on my android phone allows me to remotely monitor the temperature and humidity levels where the device is placed. The app has an awesome little graph that shows changes to the temperature and humidity. The best part about this, in my opinion, is the device's ability to alert me if there is ever a water leak. The device has contacts on the bottom that, if they should sense water, will trigger an alert! I have had a slow leak before so I know what it is like to let it go unnoticed for quite awhile. Buy these to help you have peace of mind about water leaks!

Everything about these sensors seem great so far except for the instructions that are included. The product arrived and there are 2 sensor disks included. There are also a small and not very detailed instruction manual and 4 batteries for the sensors. Once the app is installed on you smart device and the batteries are install then it's a fairly simple process to get everything set up and running. It probably took me about 10 minutes total and that included trying to figure out how and where to get the cover off to install the batteries. Because I didn't actually have a leak in the basement, I just set them in the sink to test them. I have to say...I was impressed at how fast the sensor detected the water. First the sensor starts beeping and flashing, then about 10 seconds later, I got the text and app notifications. As soon as I picked it up form the water the notifications changed. Again...very impressed. The sensors also detect the temp and humidity level of the area that you have them placed. For me I have one setting next to my sump pump and the other is setting near the main water line coming in from the well. I didn't notice at first but my humidifier wasn't working and the sensor alerted me that the humidity was too high in the basement so I had to check that out...it was turned down too low. Overall, I would say this is a great product. It will not turn off the water supply lines or anything like that but if you have water on the floor and need to be notified to rectify the situation...it will work!

These are great to have "just in case" something starts leaking. I have one in my laundry room, and the other by my hot water heater. I've had a hot water tank go out on me, and I have no idea how long it was leaking, but with these sensors, I'll know right away. They also have a nice feature that tells you the humidity. Here in Michigan our basements get pretty humid, even with the air going. I've heard you really want to keep the humidity under 50% if you can, because that's what really causes mold and other funky stuff to grow in your basement. Since installing these I have found that my dehumidifier was not working very well, so I have replaced it, and everything is back to "better conditions". I'm glad I got these just for the peace of mind alone. It's not fun cleaning up after a water leak, especially if it's in your finished basement.

Not sure where to start - had immense difficulties just trying to get the sensors connected to the basic, rudimentary app...QR code wouldn't scan, manually entering the code wouldn't work and manually trying to connect it to my network took several attempts to finally get it connected. Then, had to go through the same rigmarole for the second sensor. Unexplicably, I had to create a second 'home' to add the second sensor (but no where does it let you know you are doing that). So, once I finally got the second sensor connected, I had one sensor in 'home1' and the second sensor in a totally separate 'home2.' Ridiculous. Had to remove the 2nd sensor and add it to 'home1', again jumping through all the same hoops (QR code not working, actual code not working, connecting manually to my wifi, etc.). The sensors themselves use AA batteries. I'm not an engineer, so I'm not sure if there's a good reason they went with those rather than some type of coin battery, but in my experience I've never had a coin battery explode, leak, etc., but I can anticipate that AA batteries will eventually have these issues, especially considering that these sensors will likely be placed in environments that are not the most hospitable (attic, basement, garage, etc.). The app is bare bones and there seems to be a 'pull to refresh' action on the sensor page but...it doesn't do anything. It would be nice if that would actually refresh the readings from the sensors (rather than the current 'preset' schedule) but as far as I can tell it doesn't do that. I had one sensor out of the two that didn't refresh for over 18 hours for some reason. Again, who knows why? I hope Phyn does.

These water sensors were very easy to set up and install. They do a good job of tracking the humidity, which varies much more frequently than I expected. The battery life doesn’t last as long on one of them as the other, although I’m fairly certain I have the same settings on both.

As a homeowner, I try to do everything I can to keep my property safe and worry-free, and that includes keeping alert for water leakage. Smart devices like the Phyn Smart Water Sensor help to put my mind at ease. With multiple notification options, personalized settings, and a simple "set it and forget it" setup, Phyn makes it easy for you to monitor the areas of your home susceptible to water and to keep your house safe. The sensors are packaged with batteries and a set of simple to follow instructions. Right out of the box, you'll notice the devices are small so they are able to fit pretty much anywhere. Since they will be on the floor of your home, it is nice that the sensors have some heft to them so they won't easily get jostled or tipped over if accidentally kicked or moved. To get monitoring, just download the free Phyn app and after a quick account setup, you're ready to connect the devices. After installing the batteries, you'll notice three options for the battery usage, ranging from high level notifications and monitoring, which will use up more battery power, down to very low power use, minimal notifications, which advertises up to two years of battery life. Each setting will still be set up to alert you how you see fit. After setting up a profile for each sensor, place them near or right below areas of interest, such as your basement, under sinks, your laundry and washer area, or anywhere you see fit. The sensors do a very good job sensing water in the area, from actual water drops on or around the device, to actual area humidity. Not only will you receive text alerts (if you choose) and/or app notifications, you can even go into the app pro-actively to check the area humidity or to set up high and low range settings for your notifications. The devices also give off an audible noise when the environment goes outside your customized parameters. Switching between devices is a click away as well, and the app will also let you monitor multiple homes with multiple sensors, all from one profile. I was really happy with how simple the UI looks, but I was especially encouraged by the frequency of notifications and alerts during several days of testing. Above all, the Phyn Smart Water Sensors gives me the peace of mind to know I can act at a moment's notice if my home is in danger of flooding and water-related damage. With an easy setup and fully customizable app and notification settings, Phyn does the job of monitoring your home for water dangers so you don't have to. Full disclosure, I received this product for my honest, unbiased review.

Very easy to setup and works great. Only complaint is that alarm sound is weak but since it sends notifications to the phone that is not important. Notifications came in both text message and application alert. It does shows humidity and temperature status in real time and that is the plus. Pros: Easy to setup Could be used anywhere Send notifications to phone numbers too

The Phyn Smart Water Sensor is an overall great "hocky-puck"-like device to measure both temperature and humidity of a particular area regarding over saturation. The setup for connecting to WiFi is a breeze via its onboard setup wizard and takes less than 5 minutes to configure. Also, the temperature and humidity settings are completely configurable, and the battery life is very long-lasting (this is not a battery-draining device by any means). If it detects moving beyond a particular setting, you'll receive notification so that you can do something about the area in question. Overall, this device tests well and I recommend it for anyone who needs such coverage.
