The Hardware & Software in the Samsung S8 create the most counterintuitive and frustrating combination of "advanced technolgy" I have ever had the displeasure of using. I would only recommend this phone to an enemy, a masochist, or both. I purchased this phone on April 11, 2018. The two cameras in the Samsung S8, its alarm clock, and its timer function are its only redeeming features.

When I saw the new coral blue S8 unlocked on sale I had to pick it up. I had the S7 which is not bad but I wanted an upgrade. I would gladly have bought the Note FE but that won't be sold in the US because it would hurt Note 8 sales amongst other reasons. I settled for this because I am not going to pay an arm and a leg for devices anymore. The price was right under $600 for a flagship with 64GB of storage, water resistance & dust resistance. I like the new Best Buy exclusive Coral Blue color over the traditional black, silver or gold color variants. I was torn between this and the LG G6 which are very similar but in the end LG does not have Samsung Pay and no OLED screen. Due to this I went with the S8. Coming from the S7 the change is design is a nice change of pace, the screen dimension aren't 16:9 ratio which makes nice for media content. The curved screen is new to me and I am not sure how to feel about it. USB C is awesome, wireless charging is standard and I'm glad that Samsung kept it. Storage was doubled to 64GB so no more 32GB of storage in 2017 it is a must with all the apps and constant updates. The S8 is very slim and easy to drop even with a case on which I don't like coming from the S7 which was easier to grip due to it having minimal curves and rounded edges. The fingerprint sensor is in an odd place and takes some getting used to. I find that using my middle finger works best on this device due to how a normal individual would hold the device. Bixby is pretty useful but not quite ready yet for full time virtual assistant duties. Bixby is a young AI that has a lot to learn, If I'm not mistaken it has replaced S Voice and is much more useful than S Voice. I look forward to seeing Bixby improve over time. I don't quite see the reason for the Bixby button, I wish it could be remapped for use with another app. Overall I am happy with the purchase of the S8, The S8 Plus was not option due to price and the dimensions of the device. If you are considering purchasing a new device check out the S8. it is a heck of a deal for under $600.

Firstly, the hardware. The S8 is beautiful and almost all screen. The hardware is the latest that android can offer with only a few other devices able to match its screen to body ratio and even fewer are as beautiful. I notice how much quicker this device is to last generation devices like the Pixel and even older devices. Now to touch wiz. I used to be all about Apple, but I've had the OG Pixel too. I actually like the features and additions provided by touch wiz. It feels complete like I don't need to keep adding and modifying the phone. Camera is a solid shooter too. Bixby sucks; sorry I tried. But its too formulaic.

I previously had the S6 so I already knew that I loved the Samsung brand phones. My main reason for wanting this phone was because it has the micro SD card slot. I was going to upgrade to the S7 when my previous lease ran out, but the S8 came out before my lease was up, so I checked the specs and bought it instead. First the cons: (1) Hate the Bixby button. All you have to do is swipe from left to right to open Bixby, so the button is unneeded and I’m constantly pressing it by accident since that is where I hold the phone when I press the right button. Now I am trying to learn to hold the phone differently. What would have been great would be to have the button programmable so that I could assign its function. (2) The SIM card/microSC card slot. (a) The SIM card and the micro SD card slot are the same slot! Whenever I open the slot to remove the micro SD card, I am also removing the SIM card. They are both delicately balanced inside the holder so you have to be extra careful that the SIM card doesn’t fall out when you are removing or reinserting the micro SD card. (b) Speaking of the holder for the micro SD card, it is sometimes hard to fit the micro SD card perfectly in the holder. My Kindle also holds a micro SD card and it is a simple matter of pushing down on the card and it pops up. It is covered by a rubber stopper kind of covering, so there is no concern about losing it, so it would have been nice if Samsung had done the same thing. (c) Having to carry a special pin around with you so that you can access your micro SD card. You have to insert the pin in a small hole and push down to open the card slot. I tried using a paper clip and it didn’t seem to work. I didn’t want to force it, so I gave up and started carrying the little pin that came with phone. Now I’m afraid I might lose it since it’s so small. Pros: (1) The camera is superb. I loved the camera on the S6 and this camera is even better! (2) The micro SD card. I use mine for storing photos and movies. I travel a lot and watch movies on the plane. I used to use an external flash drive for the movies, but I couldn’t plug in the movies and charge up the phone at the same time. Now I can. On a 10 hour flight, you’re going to run out of battery! So now, my movies are already on my phone via the memory card. I have a little over 100 movies on my phone as well as my entire photography portfolio and the photos from my last couple of vacations. I still have plenty of room left for more. (3) Apps screen. You can still use the apps button if you want, but since you can just swipe to open the apps screen, you can now put another app in that spot. (4) I often had problems with my calls breaking up on my old phone. This is not a problem with this new one. The Pros for this phone far outweigh the cons. I’m sure I’ll get used to the hated Bixby button eventually and I will probably not need to access my micro SD card very often. However, I really only upgraded to the S8 because of the micro SD card. I would have kept my S6 otherwise. It was a great phone too!

This phone is great so far. It both looks and feels nice. I have small hands and this phone fits perfectly into my hand, which I like. Some things to be cautious about when buying this is its curved screen. I found it a bit difficult to get a screen protector that fit perfectly enough so that its touchscreen ability wouldnt be affected. Also, the Bixby button gets a bit annoying at times because I accidentally press it when I want to press the power button instead. However, I have only been using it for about 2 weeks, so it may just be something I have to get used to. The setup from my old phone to this was easy, as you just need to download samsung switch to transfer all the data. The battery life is pretty good so far, since it's a new phone. If I'm just using it to text, listen to music, check emails or social media throughout the day, I'd still have about 70-80% left when I get home. I think a case is definitely needed for this phone though, because it feels a little delicate.

I used to have a Galaxy S3, which I upgraded to a LG G3, because the S3 was exceeding sluggish. After 2.5 years I decided to splurge and got the S8 Unlocked-No Carrier. I am so far more than happy with it. PROS 1. The display is beyond words, need to see it! 2. It does everything really fast. 3. Is absolutely beautiful ascetically.....with cons. 4. Battery life seems to improve everytime I charge it, could be the software is adapting and getting its setting tuned by me. 5. No bloatware, I made the mistake of buying an ATT unlocked LG last time. 6. Could keep raving. CONS 1. Battery not replaceable, I try charging it with regular charger to reduce heating of battery. 2. Past experience and from what I've read is Samsung is slow to update. I had a Tab S2 that stopped getting updates after a little over a year. My LG G3 got updates for about 2 years, from 4.4 to 6.0. 3. The infinity screen is neat, but you definitely need a case. Reason is if you hold it on the sides you often end up pressing stuff on the screen. Putting a slim case on it solved that problem. 4. The phone/operating system has umpteen options, takes a while to figure everything out......This could also be a PRO. 5. Its a fingerprint magnet...nuff said.

I know everyone says it but this is the best phone I've ever had. Here's my issue, if you have family and friends that are all on iPhone life is gonna suck. You'll lose group chats and yes I deregistered from iMessage and it still happens. You'll lose a solid video chatting solution with FaceTime. Everyone who says just download Duo or Skype my answer to you is it's not a me issue it's everyone else. You have to convince others to download these apps. So anyway that's not a S8 issue, it's an Ecosystem Android/iOS issue, but some of you may be contemplating the switch like I did. The S8 battery, screen, camera, and overall experience is phenomenal. You won't be disappointed in the phone if you don't care about the other issues mentioned above.

First I want to say that I wanted to give 4&1/2 stars, but didn't find that option available. Also, I am a Samsung gal all the way! Several years back I bought my first Galaxy and it was love at first use! So, keep in mind I will never be seen with any type of IPhone. The S8's camera has AMAZING picture quality even when zoomed all the way in! All videos, whether from YouTube or Netflix or home videos, everything is in high definition. Also, you really don't even have to have any attachments to listen to music. The phone speaker has clear, crisp sound and is about 10 times louder than my S6 was. So, when replaying home videos be careful who's around! LOL Battery life is decent, no phone has really impressed me with battery. Because of my job and my children, it is nearly impossible to turn off my phone EVER, since I don't have a separate cell for work purposes. So far the S8 has kept up with me up until close to bed time, at least attempted bed time. I have to charge my phone from about 10 pm until I wake up. However, if I want to use my email or surf the internet for extended periods of time during the day, I will have to charge the phone on the way home from work. Luckily, depending on the type of charger, the S8 charges very fast! Now then, my one major complaint is they are slippery suckers and the front glass breaks way easier than I would think an upgraded version of any touch screen phone should/would. I had just purchased the phone, so I hadn't put a case on it yet, I was getting into my car and pulling my phone out of my purse to look at it once I sat down. The phone was so slick that it slipped out of my hand, not even my pocket, fell from about seat height, 2 feet off the ground?, onto the parking lot asphalt (at night) onto it's screen and BOOM, cracked in several different spots. Thank God Best Buy helped to replace it!! If u ask me, for the phone being waterproof, (takes great under water pics, btw) and its other-proofs, and for the phone front being basically all screen, I thought it would be tougher than cracking after a short drop to flat asphalt. So much to still learn about what this baby can do, but I LOVE what I have figured out so far. The drawback, for a phone that costs SO much money, it shouldn't be so easy to drop nor so easy to crack/break. If you invest in one, full price or not, buy a case that super-protects the screen of that phone or you may end up investing twice!

I have to start off by saying that I use an iPhone but I bought this phone to use as a device for Andriod because I wanted the best. This is a fantastic piece of technology and Samsung deserves a lot of credit for the design of this phone. It is elegant in every way and does all tasks to perfection. The Snapdragon processor is super fast and the screen is incredible - true Samsung. This phone is also light in weight and easy to hold and use with one hand. The battery lasts long and the camera is very good. The beauty of this design and the way it works so well is a delight to me. I have received all updates so no issue there. You can get a cheaper phone but I would not hesitate to spend the money in this one. Thanks Best Buy for being such a great company and offering this product.

The first thing I want to talk about is screen: it's big, it's high resolution, it's bright. Its aspect ratio is stretched out, so wide-screen content fits it better. The extra visual real estate is nice but using it one-handed is not very easy. The second thing is the design. I mean, visually it looks amazing but it's more than that. This is the first phone that I've used where the curved screen felt really comfortable in my hand. When it comes to phones, I don't care too much about millimetres and grammes and stuff like that I just want to feel comfortable my hand and most curved screens just don't feel good in the hand. But this one does and that's because of the frame. The transition from the front glass to the frame and then to the back glass feels almost seamless, there's just nothing with texture. It's really nice to hold but it's also really slippery. I would strongly recommend getting a skin for S8, or even a case. The other things I like are the wireless charging, the headphone jack and Bluetooth 5.0. I love the micro SD slot, the USB-C port and the performance feels really quick so far. The camera hardware is similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge. But, let's be honest, the camera on the S7 was awesome, so it's not too big of a deal to me that they didn't upgrade the camera. The front-facing camera has improved quite a bit and considering how many selfies I take every day I think this was a good call. So this device has a large screen that is super bright and has high resolution so there's a lot of pixels to process and the battery size isn't huge, so I wasn't expecting amazing battery life. The first full day of use I end up the day with thirty-one percent left. Relatively heavy use over the course of the day. At night I charged it back up, watched some YouTube videos with maximum volume and maximum screen brightness, highest resolution (WQHD+) and when I checked it eight hours later it was at thirty-six percent. The screen on time was basically the same. I think that's not bad I mean on iPhone 7+ I'd probably got some very similar numbers. The facial recognition is awesome - it works fast and it's reliable. I tried it with sunglasses and it didn't work very well. The fingerprint scanner isn't in the best location. I have to stretch for it but since the facial recognition is so good I'm totally fine with it being on the back. The Galaxy S8 is packed with a lot of cool techs. But hardware specs aren't everything. For me, the user experience is by far the most important thing when it comes to any kind of device. And with this, there are a couple things that kind of detract from the user experience. The first is that on-screen home button. I think it could or should be a little bigger. And the haptic feedback isn't good, it feels like a regular phone vibration. The speakers are also not stereo and I know a lot of people don't care about this. But I consume most of my media on my phone and it's so weird watching a super high-res video that looks gorgeous on the screen while having tinny audio that just comes out from one side of the phone. It just feels off. The screen is also difficult to use one-handed. So a wide phone like the Google Pixel XL is already wide and a little bit uncomfortable to use but it's okay - I manage. The S8, because of the tall screen, the vertical stretch is crazy. The last thing is, probably, my most personal opinion I know a lot of people are going to disagree with this, but I don't love where they're going with Bixby. And this time it comes with a dedicated hardware button which you cannot reassign to some other function. So if you're interested in this phone and you enjoyed the S7 Edge user experience (as I did) you're going to love the S8. It's just a basically an elevated version of this phone. Truly next level hardware, you're going to love it.

I recently upgraded from my Galaxy S3 and boy how things have changed. This phone is so much faster than the old one that I almost find it hard to believe that I am on a phone. I find the ergonomics of the phone quite acceptable. Personally, no problems with the fingerprint sensor. The display is all that its cracked up to be (if you reset the resolution) and the camera is superb. I opted for the unlocked version primarily because I travel and usually wish to utilize the phone services of the country that I am visiting rather than the overpriced roaming services of a carrier. I the past I have had some minor problems with the unlocked S3 (unlocked after two year contract expired) and seemed to have no problem with the S8. All in all a great phone.

It has been exactly a week since I purchased this phone and I must say that this is the best phone I have ever had. Picture quality is amazing, battery lasts so long that I can go a day and a half without charging it. It is so sleek and fits my hand comfortably. I am still exploring it but for now I would say Samsung really went all out with the S8. I have used the S3 and my last phone before this purchase was the S5. I can therefore confidently say that the S8 is the best in the galaxy series yet. I have no regrets at all with this purchase!

I did alot of research before buying this phone, I was using a LG G3 for 3 years before I bought this phone. I was looking between the LG G6, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 + and the Note 8. My biggest thing is that the phone needs to be small enough so I can 1 hand text comfortably without using the 1 hand text setting. I tested all the above phones out and the only ones i could do that comfortably on was the LG G6 and the S8. The S8+ and Note were just too big for me, so I put the LG G6 besides the S8 and it was a no brainer. The S8 was so much more sexier looking and I just love the look and feel of it. I have never bought an unlocked phone before because most of the unlocked phones are only unlocked to GSM networks, which i have Sprint and they run on the CDMA network, so i was shocked to see this was unlocked to all networks and I could use it with Sprint without having to upgrade my phone through sprint and get sucked into the lifetime leasing program they now make you do if you decide to upgrade. I also think if i decide to sell this down the road unlocked phones sell better than cell phone company restricted. This phone is fast and no lagging at all. The only reason i didn't buy it sooner was because i have to use a screen protector on my phones and none of the protectors for this phone had good reviews due to the curved screen. I bought a few of them before I bought the phone, the first one i put on went on amazing and has stuck with no lifting or bubbles, so i was even happier with keeping the phone. I bought this phone on black Friday so i got it at a good price which was even better. There are so many more options and personalization you can do with this phone compared to the LG G3 and the curved screen and color/pictures are amazing and so much better than the LG. I always hate change, so i was reluctant to buy a new phone, but i have never been happier with a phone than i am with the Galaxy S8. I can see me keeping this for a long time.

Pretty solid performance with the occasional hiccup. Camera is great. As typical with Samsung devices, the display is really good. Overall a great phone. Pros: No carrier bloatware taking up your phones memory. Water proofing AKG headphones are pretty good compared to head phones you get in other phone boxes. 64gb internal storage gives you a lot of room to work with. You wont get the full 64gb out the box, but it still works. Micro-SD cad expansion in case you need more than 64gb of storage. Wireless charging is very convenient. Usually snappy performance thanks to newest processor. Great display Good camera USB-C Overall great design Iris scanner works most of the time. I use it more than the horribly placed fingerprint scanner. Since the phone is unlocked, it should support most if not all major US carriers and their prepaid variants. Cons: Horribly placed fingerprint scanner Comes with Android 7.0 and not 7.1. Android 7.1 introduces better battery enhancements and app shortcuts among other things. Samsung also has a horrible track record with fast updates. Speaking of track records with software updates, last years unlocked S7 was among the last to be updated in the states when it should have been among the first. Hopefully this model doesn't suffer the same fate as last years. As normal, Samsung puts the speaker at the bottom of the phone. It is pretty easy to cover the speaker and muffle the sound. It can get loud, but is cancelled out by how easy it is to cover the speaker. Even though I mentioned the display as a positive, it is also a negative. Due to the bigger screen size and a different aspect ratio, video in apps will have black bars on the side. For some this may not be a big deal. Certain apps will allow you to resize the video, but it will cut parts of the video off the screen. Will need to wait for apps and content to be updated for the new aspect ratio. If you are the kind of person who puts a tempered glass screen protector on your phones, look really hard for a good one. It is harder to make tempered glass screen protectors for devices with a curved screen like this one. Also be careful of a case you use with a potential glass screen protector. Due to the curved screen and glass protector, certain cases may push up on the protector and cause it to bubble or be removed from the screen entirely.

The good: * Great battery life, even with the clock showing in the display all the time. * Great display, the AMOLED is crystal clear. * Fast, much faster than my old S6 The bad: * Bixby. It keeps being in the way. The only question that I want to ask it is how to disable it, which it does not know. SAMSUNG, please remove this feature and allow the Google Assistant to take its role.

I purchased the Galaxy S8 to replace a Galaxy Note II that died unexpectedly. I needed an unlocked phone that I could use on my StraightTalk account (using the ATT network). The deceased Note is my base line for comparison. First, the good stuff; * Like the old Note, the display is beautiful. Resolution is sharp and colors are vivid. * The S8 seems to pull in cell and data network signals much better than the Note. LTE might be old hat for most, but for me, it is a huge improvement over 3G. * The battery performance has been good so far. Since it is not user replaceable though, I hold some concern as to how it will behave after a couple of years of use. * The camera is fantastic. I've used it for stills and 4K video and have been impressed. I've always wanted a tag-along camera option for the times I don't want to lug the SLR around. The S8 fills this need very well. Resolution and sharpness are fantastic. Exposures and HDR handling are remarkable. I just wish I could access RAW image data as well as the fantastic JPEGs the camera cranks out. Things that were a bit of an annoyance - but were expected and workable; * The S8 requires a micro SIM. I could not transfer my mini SIM from the Note. That required an extra day of downtime for the phone while I waited for delivery of a new SIM. * The interface is still something I'm getting used to. I've spent a lot of time trying to find out how to adjust settings on the S8 for which I knew exactly where to go on the Note. Things I didn't like so much; * The screen aspect ratio doesn't feel right. Portrait mode displays seem too narrow and landscape mode seems cropped vertically. * I'm not a fan of the curved edge that eliminates a border around the screen presentation. Just grasping the phone sometimes results in unwanted clicks. * The screen sensitivity doesn't seem consistent. Sometimes I have to do multiple presses before it registers and sometimes it picks up an accidental contact as a click. * I miss the mail app that was on the Note. There are some functions I used to use regularly (collapse/select a day's worth of email and mark as "read") that seem to be absent on the new phone. * I'm puzzled by Bixby. It doesn't seem to do anything useful for me and it monopolizes a hardware button on the side of the phone that could be useful for something else. * I miss the stylus of the Note series. If I had had the luxury of time to replace my phone, I probably would have waited for the Note 8. Alas, that was not an option for me. Still, in the long run, I fully expect the S8 will prove itself to be the best of the choices available.

I would recommend this to a friend
