    Wish TurboBoost worked off battery

I bought this i7 laptop to replace my Sony i5. I got it for the i7 performance to do video editing and rendering. The machine runs very well with plugged into the wall. But when running on battery, the machine throttles back to all four cores running at 750MHz! There is NO bios setting to over-ride this. Finally got ahold of a person in the know at SONY that confirmed that turbo boost does NOT engage when running on a battery only. This is unacceptable for my application -- so I returned it. Too bad, because everything else worked as expected. I realize the battery life is shorter when running turbo-boost, but I accept that. Turns out that running on a battery for some video rendering, the i7 was twice as SLOW as the i5 machine that allowed turbo boost. I went back to my i5. Argh.

    Nice midsize desktop replacement

I bought this thing with the intent that I didn't want to make any sacrifices in ports, features, etc. With USB 3.0, Bluetooth, blu-ray, discrete graphics, 1080P widescreen monitor, and backlit keyboard there was not anything in that spec sheet I had to give up. The one I got had 8GB of RAM however and the 750GB 7200RPM HDD. Either way, with the hyperthreading power of the i7, you will handle many tasks at once without breaking a sweat. WEI of 7.5, Passmark CPU benchmark of over 6800. That is higher than my 2 year old i7 desktop!

    Excellent All Around Computer!

This computer has been excellent from day 1! Always super fast regardless of how much I'm working on. The screen is immaculate and the back-lit keyboard is comfortable and easy to use for extended periods of time. There was a lot of bloatware, some of which was quite interesting however, that was never a concern seeing as how I purchased the 500gb and 4gb ram model which is $200 cheaper and upgraded ram and hard drive within the first month. With a 1tb hard drive and 8gb ram I still payed less than $1150 and had a clean OS without any extra annoyances with an I-7 that can handle whatever you dish out! I have always been impressed with Sony products and this does not disappoint! Only minor setback is the screen is just big enough not to fit in most common computer bags and it is a little heavy, but Sony makes a couple reasonably priced bags to choose from and ultimately, for me at least, the extra pound or two isn't that noticeable when the bag is full anyway. After this I will DEFINITELY be buying Sony from now on!

There are better Computers in this price range!

In the short time that I owned this computer it crashed 3 times and wouldn't run certain software programs. The good news is that these problems showed up quick, so I was able to return it for full refund. To be fair, I might have just had a Lemon! Could have been bad memory or disk drive, but I wasn't going to take a chance with another Sony. The more that I used the touch pad the less I liked it. Sony's bloatware ran for over two hours trying to organize my digital pictures even though I didn't initiate it. During this time the processor ran very hot and the fan ran constantly, and loudly. At the end of the day, it was a bad purchase decision on my part. There are better machines out there in this price range. I now own a Toshiba Qosmio and couldn't be more satisfied ... things do happen for a reason. Thank you Best Buy for taking back the Sony, and for having the Qosmio available at the right price.

    Regretful purchase

Bought the 236 model with 8GB ram and 750GB harddrive. The LCD has bleeding effect on the right edge. Got an exchange with the same issue. The wireless is very weak. Cannot be more than 25 feet away from the router or you will get very slow connection. The VAIO care is very annoying. Still on the fence whether to return it. Really can't believe this laptop is made by Sony.

I bought this expensive Sony Vaio computer 14 month ago and the hard drive and the operating system just crashed with all my school information in it. I called Sony and they told me it was out of warranty and they would fix it for over $300. Very frustrating. They just don't make electronics like they used to. I am switching to Apple.
