Friends, I have to caution you not to purchase this TV or any Sony TV at this moment. I currently have five in my household. In November Sony pushed out a firmware update that broke functionality to communicate with CEC devices (basically anything plugged in with HDMI). AppleTV, Blu-ray, PS, Xbox, etc. while you can stream content you cannot control the device or vice versa. Basic function such as powering off the TV won’t work. Even the Sony TV remote won’t reliably turn off the tv. I am forced to wait for the tv to auto shut off each day. There are plenty of people hopping mad about this. Just check the Sony Forums. It’s been six months without a formal acknowledgment from Sony or any hint of a fix. I must therefore warn you not to purchase this TV. I will be leaving this same post on the other four Sony TVs I purchased at Best Buy so you don’t think this is a false blast against Sony. I wish I had my money back and could return these five units and get something else that works.

After going back and forth between the Sony X900 and the Samsung Q70 Online , the side by side comparison in person sealed the deal for me. The Picture on the Sony blew away the Q70. However, the Q80 held its own and maybe was even a little crisper. Since I got a much better price for the X900, it was a no-brainer. Now that it’s in my home, it fits perfectly on my Living room wall and is not as big as I feared. Very pleased with the ease of use and the rich colors. You will not be disappointed!

So far so good. Colors are rich. Picture quality excellent. Seemed like sticking with the factory default setting produces best results. Just MHO. Increasing color saturation beyond default was too much especially In the blacks(turned purple and green). Very pleased so far. And the size.... what can I say except it doesn’t take long to get used to it!! Now I want the 98” The sale price of 2999 makes this a great value!

If you're looking for a set over 65", this is the way to go. And the 85" is easily the best value/bang for the buck set on the market, not even close. No, this won't beat an OLED in picture quality (I've had 2 OLED sets)....and if you're in the market for 65" or less, get an OLED if you really want the best picture, and are willing to pay a little more. But for 90% of content, this set is on par with the best ones out there.

I reviewed and waited for the price on this TV to drop. This thing is massive and just awesome! Great picture, great clarity. From 25 feet away, it is very visible and easy to see. I would recommend this X900F version to anyone. One thing to consider is that it does weigh around 100 LBs so it may change your decision about which mount you get.

After several months of analyzing and debating the 75-86 inch 4k sets from Sony, Samsung and LG, I pulled the trigger right after the most recent price drop on the 2018 Sony 85XBR-900F. I am very pleased and have no regrets. The 85 inch set is not at all too large for the 13 foot wall at the front of our media room. The processor is performing well when I use the smart TV features, but I confess that I use Apple TV and the Sony UHD Blue-Ray more often. For most shoppers, this set is a great choice over the more expensive 82-86 inch alternative sets. It was nice to use the savings on a quality wall mounting bracket and DVD player. If I have any criticism it’s with the reflective coating. Unless my ceiling lights are set to very dim levels, I’m sometimes distracted by reflections of the light fixtures in dark portions of TV broadcasts. Otherwise, the picture quality, features, remote control, size, and Alexa/Google integrations are terrific. I look forward to making great use of the set for many years to come.

85 inches of greatness. Supports Dolby Vision and picture looks fantastic. Built in Android TV works fast and I love streaming Netflix directly on the TV. Works great with Alexa and my Harmony Hub. There are a few TV's that, IMO, have a little better picture, but none of them are as big and they cost $2000 to almost $10000 more.

TV overall quality is quite good. But it lacks in certain areas in terms of overall color out of the box so it requires some tuning to meet the standards of a decent eye. Its without a doubt the best tv i have ever owned but it isnt the best quality out there for certain applications. Games do look great on it and thats the main reason why i bought the tv. The x1 processor does what it needs to for sure. TV looks great when you customize it to fit what you like. Some cons are that the tv base seems a little flimsy when you dont hang it up on the wall. Its also very heavy and requires a high quality tv stand. The android tv functionality is rarely used, especially when paired with xfinity cable service. The remote that is given doesnt light up and makes seeing any of the buttons in the dark impossible. Not a huge deal but you would figure a 3000 dollar tv would come with a backlit remote control. Overall the tv is a definite 4 out of 5 but if you can afford it get the 950. The quality of picture really is noticeable even if it means getting a smaller 75" for the same price. I kind of wish i did but im way too lazy to setup everything all over again. Plus the tv is good enough for what i need it for so i cant complain. I am happy with the purchase but wish i shelled out the extra cash for the next level up.

We have been enjoying this Sony for a month now. We splurged when buying and paired with Bose 700 sound bar and bass module for complete viewing package. We are movie buffs and love being comfortably at home instead of in a theatre—this unit delivers theatre quality in the comfort of remaining at home. Basic DVD’s are enjoyable to watch and as we purchase new DVD’s will buy 4K ones which are phenomenal to watch. Controller is easy to understand as well as menus. We did mount tv on wall by BB (3rd party installers) and our recliners are straight in front from unit. Furniture on side has great picture viewing as well. We plan on years of enjoyment—have not gamed yet; know that it too will be fantastic! Highly recommend saving up to purchase this tv and sound system.

This TV is amazing, picture is crystal clear and is perfect for our home movie theater. Easy to use and set up with surround sound. Only downfall is the design on the remote control, chill out on the buttons Sony, I have small hands and even I have to be very wary of pushing buttons I don’t want to my husband got frustrated during setup due to hitting buttons with he’s meatier fingers lol.

I’ve had this TV for about a week now. I did a lot of research. I read tons of articles and reviews. I scoured the AVS forums. I went and saw this TV at my local Magnolia multiple times. I spent time tweaking the settings on the floor model. I was looking for an 85 inch TV. I know there are 82 inch models out there, but I preferred the 85 inch. I wanted really good picture quality for movies and TV. I wanted the ability to watch programming in Dolby Vision. This TV met that criteria. The strengths of this set include color accuracy, strong shadow detail, and good contrast. Black levels are very good, however they are not top shelf like you see in the OLEDS and some of the more expensive LCD models. The weakness of this television at this price point is the local dimming feature. It works very well, but does not have enough zones to keep from having some issues blooming. I recently purchased the 75 inch TCL 6 series. I previously had the Vizio P series . Both of those televisions, particularly the TCL, had way more zones for their local dimming. The lack of zones on this television means that in some scenes you have light that bleeds into the black bars when you’re watching letterbox content. It is by no means a dealbreaker. However it would have been nice to see more zones implemented. I was tempted to wait and see if others may produce an 85 inch set. However it appears they won’t do one in 2019. I didn’t want to wait until 2020. I am very pleased with my purchase. Especially at the sale price I was able to get it.

Having used plasma TVs for almost the last 10 years, I was a bit skeptical upgrading to an LED. However, I can confidently say that I have no regrets after purchasing the 85" X900F. The sheer size of the panel more than makes up for any shortcomings vs. the plasma. Picture quality of 4K and high quality 1080 HD content is spectacular. Motion (one of my biggest worries with LED) is excellent. Blooming is there if you look for it, but it is rarely distracting to the actual content being viewed. Other common issues with this technology like dark corners exist, but again, the overall picture quality and size of the display make for an excellent upgrade over my 65" plasma. Prior to viewing HDR in a decent environment, I thought of it as more of a gimmick. However, viewing 4K HDR content on this set is incredible. I highly recommend this TV, as someone who hung on to plasma technology for so long and is very picky when it comes to picture quality.

Bought this TV for $3000. It is a very large screen. I have it mounted on the wall above the fireplace. I can get right up on the screen , with my nose inches away and with a standard cable source outputting 1080, I can barely see pixelation. Of course it depends on the souce quality, but the tv is pretty darn good

I bought an open box from the local Best Buy. The stand is ugly and requires a wide stand. My TV console works but I have an inch and a half overhang on each foot. The Sony's stand is not as stable as I would like. This big set would do better wall mounted but that is not an option for my in my room. The big Sony has better reflection handling than I expected. There is very little color shift as I move from one end of the couch to the other. Blacks are excellent. There is some minor blooming but not anything to complain about. Motion handling is better than my 4K 2015 78" JS8600 Samsung using the Black Frame Insertion (BFI) feature. The Sony gets very bright which compensates for the dimming effect of the BFI. Color out of the box is not very good. I used ChromaPure and an i1display Pro colorimeter to calibrate it. Grayscale cleaned up nicely, which improved color and skin tones significantly. There is very limited capability to further correct he individual colors. Blue has the most error. All in all, the picture quality after calibration is very good and a big step up from my calibrated Samsung which I moved to the master bedroom. I am a fan of Android TV. The version that came on the set (Version 7) was sluggish. The set updated to Version 8 in a few days. The newer version runs fine on the 900f. It is not as fluid as Android TV on the Nvidia Shield but is fast enough that I have no complaint here. The biggest wrinkle is ARC. It had me cursing, total vudu. I have a Denon x4200w AVR. Initially ARC worked perfectly with the Denon. HDMI CEC enabled allowed control of the receiver, both volume, and the on and off via the Sony remote. After a couple of weeks it stopped seeing the Denon. I unplugged everything multiple times. Finally it saw the AVR. The Sony remote would power up the receiver and play audio but it would not turn the receiver off. To this day I have to use the AVR remote to power down the Denon. I have never been a big fan of ARC but the Denon AVR has a recent firmware version and worked fine with the Samsung. Sony has work to do here. Perhaps the eARC on the the 950g works more reliably. I use a couple of Silicondust HD Homeruns tuners. One for OTA broadcast and one for cable . Silicondust software runs on Android and the tuners are supported via Android TV Live Channels. I do not want to use an external Android TV device so I really need to use ARC, ARC has been around for several years. The Sony should work properly with the Denon. Denon is the leading AVR in the market. Speaking of the remote... the infrared receiver on the TV is at the bottom center of the TV and the remote handset has to be aimed directly at that center bottom spot to work. I had to jump through hoops to get my large center channel to not block the Sony's IR receiver. I tried installing a 3rd party IR receiver into the external IR port on the back of the TV, no bueno. I tried several brands and none worked. I finally found some very short (8 inch) speaker stands for my center channel speaker as a work around. I really like the TV picture and at the open box price and the 24 month no interest financing Best Buy offered, made the 85x900F a very good value. The overall experience is marred some by a fussy ARC implementation and an annoyingly directional remote control. The remote control should be an easy work around by installing a third party infrared remote receiver in the the jack Sony provides on the rear of the set. In the end the niggles I note here don't keep me from giving the set an excellent rating. Is x900f really deserving of 5 stars but to grade is 4 stars would be a disservice.
