A: I haven't had that happen, but if I angle it to far then it'll tip over; like anything else. Or to avoid that from happening I just put something behind the top to keep it from tiping over.
Q: Is there an on/off option for the backlit keys?
A: Yes with the tap of a key!
Q: Can you detach the keyboard?
A: No, this model is not detachable. It's rotatational( it able to turn) you can use like a laptop or like a book( kindle).
Q: Is this designed for the iPad Air?
A: Yes, fits nice and snug with my iPad Air 2. I understand it will just as well with iPad Air.
A: If you're asking because you own an iPad air 2 and not a 9.7" iPad pro you should get the THZ588US. That's my opinion & that's what i did. Upon visually comparing the 588 & 621 cases in store (around early July) I really couldn't see a difference but, If you own an iPad pro, the 588 may not fit it. I did not bother to compare specs so battery or other internal components improvements may exist but I honestly don't know about that. But price difference did not seem worth it. When i went back to the store recently the 588 had been cleared out & is no longer available in store. Best Buy, as of this writing, has the 588 @ less than 60 bucks online. My guess is that Targus did this purely for marketing purposes so they could make it seem like a new product. I'm almost certain i saw stickers added to the 588 packaging (when it was available) saying it fits the iPad pro 9.7 but maybe I'm remembering wrong.
A: the key board does time out when you close the case. the battery for the key board last a long time. i rarely turn the key board off.
