A: I wouldn't leave on, I only turn mine on when I need ice however, I keep a couple bags of ice in the freezer. When this ice maker is in the on position ice is being made, so if you want to make ice 24-7 leave it on but understand that you have to add water and empty the ice basket through the day. It's not a commercial ice maker

A: Water should never sit more than 24 hours if not in use. Recommend refilling and cleaning at least 24 hours before use.
