Q: QuestionAfter just 3 years of ordinary use, my Epson XP-7100.sent me a message that the ink pad was at the end of its usable life span. When I checked the E web site, it said I most likely would have to buy a new machine. Isn’t 3 years a very short lifespan?

Q: QuestionAre the ink cartridges that come in the box with a new unit full use cartridges or just adequate for setup and intial printing. In other words, do you need to immediately install new ink cartridges?

• A:Answer I asked that, too. They are marked "i" for initial, but Epson told me they are regular capacity. I can tell you that after set up and quite a few documents and photos printed, the ink levels are still above 50%. So they are at least of a reasonable capacity. But I accept that I will be buying expensive ink fequently.

• A:Answer I just printed on card stock using my Epson XP-7100. I changed the paper type to "presentation matte" because that lets the printer know that you are using a thicker paper. The printing came out very well on the card stock.

Q: QuestionCan you change the cartridges individually or do they come as a combo? Some review stated that you have to manually feed the paper back in for double sided? Is this true? I thought I read somewhere it automatically prints double sided.

Q: QuestionCan you use automatic feeder for inputting documents for scanning? Do you have to manually put document sheets on to flatbed for scanning?

• A:Answer I used the auto feeder to scan a couple of days ago and it was great how it put everything scanned into a folder so that I could email. You don't need to load page by page on the flatbed.

• A:Answer The XP-7100 or any Epson printer only supports 2.4 GHz frequency. If you are using a 5 GHz wireless router, set the router to operate in dual band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) mode. If your router uses a single network name (SSID) for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band, give each band its own network name (SSID) instead, such as Home Network 2.4 GHz and Home Network 5 GHz.
