QuestionI use a printer for three summer months, and then it sits unpowered for nine months including freezing temps. Regular printer cartridges dry up and have to be replaced. Will the super tank printer be able to start back up after unpowered for nine months ?

- Answer Hello and thank you for asking. Any ink jet printer, including the HP Smart Tank Plus 651, can suffer from dry out after about 2 or 3 months. Because ink is a liquid, it will evaporate, leaving dried ink plugs that clog the printhead, thereby preventing it from printing. HP LaserJet printers do not have that problem by design.

- Answer Hi there. Thank you for your question! The HP Smart Tank Plus 651 does not use sublimation ink. It will use pigment-based black ink and dye-based color ink (cyan, magenta, and yellow).

- Answer Thank you for the question. The Smart Tank 651 uses pigment-based black and dye-based color inks. Filling the tanks with all pigment inks will likely clog the nozzles. It may affect output quality and void the warranty.

QuestionHow do you adjust the settings to make the printer print 2 sides? I tried but did not succeed.

- Answer You can't really. The printer tells you to run the pages through and then reinsert them to print on the 2nd side. With a small page count, this works, but if you have a large number of pages, they don't come out of the printer in the right order, meaning YOU have to manually double check and re-sort the pages, THEN reinsert them. Not a user-friendly process.

QuestionCan Model 651 (or other CMYK HP's) print on "heat transfer sheets" to heat press for t-shirts etc. without any problems? What brand transfer papers HP advise that I can buy wholesale (100+ sheets/order?)

- Answer It certainly can (as long as the sheets are designed for an inkjet printer). You'll probably get better color-fastness if you go with a printer that uses a pigment-based ink, like the OfficeJet Pro 9015. HP doesn't have a specific brand recommendation for the transfer paper.
