“We live in the middle of the country, so our wifi is through our phone's hotspot. Are we still able to schedule the cleanings and set up the room maps if the roomba isn't always hooked up to wifi? Or do we have to press the clean button each time?”

But you'll need connection to the app to fully map your home, choose what rooms to clean, set a schedule and review performance. You'll want WiFi access to fully enjoy the benefits of this robot. Fortunately, you're shopping with Best Buy. It may be worth talking with them to determine what support they can lend, or if you can try the robot in your home. They have excellent support.
