Q: QuestionDo these require 2 routers as well? Or can I connect one to my downstairs router and the other in my upstairs power outlet then have the cable connect directly to my labtop?

• A:Answer No. Just one router. Connect one via Ethernet cable to the router and plug in, Then wherever you want to have Ethernet elsewhere you plug the 2nd adapter in to that outlet and run an Ethernet cord from that to your device

• A:Answer I've been running power line adapters since before it was the coolest way to extend a connection to the Router/Modem. So your situation is unique if you believe the power line adapters are causing this problem. Could be a bad power line adapter or bad breakers, they do go bad every now and then. • A:Answer This does not have anything to do with Mesh systems. Mesh systems are designed to eliminate WIFI dead spots. Extending the WIFI signal without loss of router speed. IF I have one 5300 router and one 1200 router then the 1200 router, in Mesh mode, would maintain the 5300's transmission speeds up and down as determined by your ISP. Now if you wanted to be sure you were getting the best up and down speeds you could use the Power line adapter to allow the 2nd "mesh" router to utilize the connection as a backhaul freeing up WIFI traffic on your network. What Is A Ethernet Backhaul? With a wired Ethernet backhaul, you connect the access points together using ethernet network cables. This opens up an additional channel for communication between the access points and thus takes some of the load of the wireless bandwidth. In my house I can get a 1 gigabit ethernet connection over the cabling, which is actually a higher throughput than the wireless signal, so it more than doubles capacity.

This network extender uses the electrical wiring in your house/apartment to transmit the signal, so as long as you don't have any interference on the lines you should get good speeds. I think the network extender is rated up to 1 GHz download, but the actual upload and download speeds will depend on the service you're using. You may need to check with your internet service provider to see what speeds your plan is guaranteed to have, and also check the specs on your wireless card. The speeds can only be as fast as the equipment is designed to handle. Usually the download is the faster of the two so you may have the values reversed.

• A:Answer If available, yes. Once you have the initial two where one is connected to your router and a nearby outlet and the second in another outlet in a room where you want direct Ethernet connection, you can add another unit in another room which leverages the initial unit’s direct router connection. So you can add 1 or 2 or 3 etc more units to the setup you have for the initial pair. I don’t recall if they sell just 1 unit. We bought a second pair and now have 3 rooms where we have a PC plugged directly to the Ethernet (instead of WiFi). All 3 leverage the first unit that is plugged directly to the router. Works very well. Look up the product online for more info.

• A:Answer The condition of your home wiring is the primary consideration. This is the type of situation where these extenders can shine. If you are in a basement it avoids WiFi interference from heat ducts, pipes, metal floor joists etc. Best of all they are plug and play. adapter plugs in near your router and an Ethernet cable connects them, on the other floor the other adapter goes near your device that you are connecting and connects with another Ethernet cable. That's all there is to it. Lights on the front indicate status so you know right away if your home AC wiring is not up to the task. Mine is on a sub breaker panel but still gets the job done. Indicators occasionally go to red for a minute or two but connection does not drop!
