A:AnswerThere are several differences between Samsung's Stainless Platinum finish and real stainless steel. The key difference that many people note is that real stainless steel is usually not magnetic, so if you like to hang photos and kids' artwork on your refrigerator, you might want to choose Stainless Platinum, which is magnetic. Also, Stainless Platinum is fingerprint-resistant and very easy to care for.

A:AnswerThough Samsung's Stainless Platinum finish is designed to closely resemble real stainless steel, it may not be an exact match. If you are trying to match other real stainless steel appliances, you may want to visit a Best Buy store near you that has a Samsung refrigerator in Stainless Platinum on display, so you can see if it fits your needs. In making your choice, you may want to consider the benefits of Stainless Platinum: not only is it fingerprint-resistant and therefore easier to keep clean than real stainless, but customers who like to display photos or kids' artwork on their refrigerators often prefer Stainless Platinum which is magnetic while most real stainless is not.

A:AnswerThe RF217ACWP has a smooth white finish. The image on the computer may appear different because of shading or variations in light to add depth to the photo. Without the use of shadows, a white refrigerator on a white background might not be very visible.

A:AnswerThe Energy Saver feature disables the low-wattage heater in the strip between the refrigerator doors of the RF217ACPN, which helps to evaporate condensation. If you live in a very dry climate and do not have an issue with condensation, then there's no harm in using the Energy Saver function; just press the button on the control panel to turn Energy Saver on.

A:AnswerThanks for the question. The RF217ACPN does have a door alarm to alert you if the door is left open, though it wouldn't start beeping until it detects it's been open for more than just a few minutes. If the wires that connect the door sensors are not connected properly, the alarm may not sound. This happens on occasion if the door was removed during delivery and installation of the refrigerator, though I would suggest checking this connection regardless of whether the doors have been removed.
To check the wiring harness connections, use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws and lift the hinge cover. Illustrated instructions can be found on pages 11-13 of the User Manual which can be downloaded as a pdf file from Samsung's website for easy reference.

A:AnswerThanks for your interest in the RF217ACWP. This model does have adjustable door bins, which can be helpful for accommodating very tall items.

A:AnswerThe RF217ACPN measures 32-1/4" wide by 68-5/8" high without hinges (69-3/4" high with hinges) by 26-1/4" deep without the doors. Samsung recommends leaving at least 2" above and behind the refrigerator as well as 1" on each side to allow sufficient air flow for the cooling system to operate properly and most efficiently. If either door will open into a wall or cabinet, you'll need at least 3-3/4" clearance on that side so the door can open at least 90º to allow the crisper drawer to open fully.
Based on these dimensions, the minimum cutout needed for this model is 34-1/4" wide (or 37" with an adjacent perpendicular wall) by about 71" high by 28-1/4" deep. The depth assumes the front edge of the refrigerator case will be aligned with the cabinet fronts.

A:AnswerThere is about 9-1/2" of clearance from the bottom shelf to the highest setting for the middle shelf in the RF217 refrigerator. If your milk or juice container is taller than the 9-1/2" then you may need to place the container on its side if you prefer to store it on the shelves rather than using the gallon-door bins.

A:AnswerThe RF217ACWP will fit through your 30-3/4" doorway if you remove the doors and drawer. Without these, the unit's case depth is 26-1/4". Instructions for removing the refrigerator doors are in the User Manual, which can be downloaded from Samsung's website. There is actually an easier way to remove the bottom freezer drawer that does not even require any tools; just follow these steps:
1. Open the freezer drawer and remove the upper "Auto Pull-Out" freezer drawer by lifting it up and pulling it toward you.
2. Locate the white plastic release buttons located toward the rear of the metal freezer drawer railing on both the right and left side.
3. Pull the freezer drawer out while pressing the release buttons (you may need a second person to help with this step). The entire drawer and railing should pull out together.
4. To reassemble, just align and slide the drawer rail back onto the track, being sure to push it in the entire way so the buttons lock back in place, then replace the upper bin, too.
