Questioni have HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-ec0101ax laptop . so can i use samsung 980pro 500 gb ssd ......is it compatabile with my laptop

- Answer The manual to your laptop says that it supports an NVME drive, but that chipset only works at PCIe Gen 3.0. Yes it will work but you won't get the full PCIe Gen 4.0 speed. For that price you can get a Gen 3.0 1TB size. For an added speed boost make sure your laptop has two RAM sticks installed so it will run in dual channel mode. Most laptops come with only one installed.

- Answer This doesn't come with a heat sink, so you'll need to buy one if you want or need a heat sink. Depending on your intended use you can opt to not use one but you risk damaging it if you run your PC or Console intensely and it gets pretty hot. I always say it's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

- Answer It does not and I would suggest getting one if your motherboard does not include one. It runs very fast in a Gen4 M.2 slot, but hot 52C. With the large heatsink I have on mine it runs 42-44C.

- Answer Yes it will work , but only as gen3 because that motherboard only supports gen 3 pcie. let me tell you though it still pretty darn quick at gen 3 . I know this because that's how I'm running it right now until I get my 11th gen CPU.

- Answer I too have an Alienware M15 R3, but run a 500GB Samsung EVO Plus in it. I've had no issues w/that model, so I expect the same when it comes to having a Samsung 980Pro as well, other than being a little faster perhaps. I also run a Samsung 1TB Samsung 980Pro in an Intel Intel Hades Canyon, which I just acquired, and haven't had any problems w/that one either. I'm able to run the game Star Citizen, a very graphics intensive game, w/no problems on either system.

- Answer if your motherboard supports M2 sata or peripheral drives then yes it will I have one as my main drive in my asus prime z390-a check the manual that came with the board it can tell you the specs of the board and show you where it goes

- Answer I don't think so, I don't know which model you have but I know that the 13 inch only supports SSD as storage. this on the other hand will need an m.2 slot.

- Answer I currently have the X570 MEG ACE MOBO by MSI and just upgraded to this NVME last week from a 970 EVO PLUS and after installing all the new BIOS and firmware/drivers I reinstalled windows and to be honest i cannot tell the difference from my 970 EVO PLUS [If anything theres maybe a 2-3 second difference]. To be fair boot time was already around 10 seconds so Im not sure what I was expecting since thats already pretty dang quick....if Im being 100% honest I guess I just love pushing todays tech to its limits to see what it's capable of. Maybe thats why I spent 1,600 on my GPU alone lolol

- Answer I used samsung data migration application to clone from 850 Pro 256GB to this 980 Pro. There is no issue. After finished, the software automatically turns the 850 GB offline (in disk management of windows 10), so the windows boots into the 980 Pro smoothly without any issue. Just make sure bios of computer allowed to boot on "UEFI"

QuestionI was thinking about using this with an enclosure on a ps5/Xbox SX. Could that decrease speed, and downgrade graphics as compared to internal ssd? Thanks

- Answer That, will not work. The ps5 drive has to be installed internally and the on the xbox this will only work for current gen games but not next gen. You might as well buy the Seagate drive for the xbox.

- Answer The drive itself does have a built in heat sink. I suppose there might exist a use-case where you'd want/need additional heat dissipation but I started pushing this thing pretty hard with some video editing and photo editing and never saw any slow down.

- Answer I agree with Joker.. while Sony hasn’t released their list of supported drives.. this one fits the bill as far as I can tell! Samsung makes some of the best chips in the business.
