Questionif i use this for my MAC after first formatting and storing my mac data into it, can i use it with my windows laptop as well? i mean is it possible for the device to be used for both the mac and windows devices to transfer date?

- Answer If you format the drive as FAT32 you will be able to use it with both the mac and windows operating systems. Fat 32 however has a maximum volume size of 2TB and a maximum file size of 4GB.

The drive comes with USB 3.0 Type-A interface. It is ready to use out of the box for windows. QuestionCan this be used as a 2nd hard drive to just backup files from several laptops, and do it manually. Just create a folder and copy files to the folder and have a folder for each laptop. I'm not interested in the automatic backup feature. Thanks

- Answer Unless it's a powered Hub it's unlikely the drive will work correctly while connected to the hub. The new USB C hubs provide plenty of power but older USB 3 or 2 hubs typically will not have enough juice coming from the computer port to supply power to an external hard drive.

- Answer Depends on what OS you're on but basically, after copying the folders/files onto the drive, unplug it from the old (source) pc, plug the drive into the new (target) pc, open your favorite file explorer, find your drive/folder/file and drag and drop to new location.

- Answer There are wireless wi-fi hard drives out there that would be the BEST way for you if you want to transfer files from your phone directly to a hard drive. But yes for this portable hard drive, there is a way, but it will take a USB adapter that would connect to your phone to be able to read the portable hard drive and you would have to download a file reading app in collaboration with the adapter. Otherwise, the efficient way is to transfer files off your phone to a PC or laptop and then transfer those files to the portable hard drive.

- Answer Yes. as long as you are backing up to the same type of computer, mac to mac or PC to PC, yes you can. If you are going Mac to PC or PC to mac, you have to reformat the WD external hard drive to either Exfat, if its Mac or Fat32, if it's PC.

- Answer Yes I use it on my Samsung and on the Xbox outside! Plays back MP4/AVI/MKV (all depends on your tv)!
