• A:Answer No update, currently the HDMI 2.1 issue has NOT been resolved and the way things are looking... it may never be fixed properly. It's been over a year and the hdmi 2.1 issues haven't been fixed, so not a good sign there and Yamaha is dead silent on the issue. Their current "fix" if you even want to call it that is to plug the console directly into a 4K/120hz display and use eARC to send audio back to receiver. For me this defeats the purpose of even spending the money on or buying a HDMI 2.1 receiver however. So it's not a fix. It's a work around that isn't acceptable imo when a company is selling and advertising their product as HDMI 2.1. I'm still holding out for a proper solution before i even consider buying any HDMI 2.1 receiver at this point... looks like 2021 models are using the same chip as well. Which means if no software fix is discovered.... we won't have a proper HDMI 2.1 receiver until 2022 at the earliest.

Q: QuestionCan Speaker Sets A and B be set to different volume levels and/or different inputs while playing at the same time? A+B receivers have not done this in the past, you always have to get a Zone2 receiver for that functionality - checking if that has changed.

• A:Answer Referring to the specs for both, in the back of their manuals: Two channels driven: RX-V4A: 80W/ch @ 0.06% THD 90W/ch @ 0.9% THD STRDH590: 90W/ch @ 0.09% THD 105W/ch @ 0.9% THD Rated power consumption: RX-V4A: 520W STRDH590: 200W They're pretty comparable, though the rated power consumption should shed some light on how much total (across all channels) the receivers can put out. There's no way to get 725W out and only 200W in. The THD numbers may be important to you. The larger the number, the more distorted the sound.

Q: QuestionI have a new 65 in LG tv that doesn't have the ports for yellow and red plugs. I have an old Yamaha htr-5230 receiver. I also have speakers in my wall and ceiling for surround. This receiver isn't compatible w tv. What receiver do I need to get?

• A:Answer Modern TVs pass audio digitally out one of the HDMI inputs to an attached receiver. This feature is called ARC, and the enhanced version that can carry more than 2 channels of uncompressed digital audio is called eARC. If the new LG was made recently, it will support ARC and eARC, and you'll probably want a receiver that supports eARC. The RX-V4A handles both. If the LG can handle 4k@120Hz signals, save yourself some headache and grab a $15 8K HDMI cable for eARC. You'll be able to plug in 8K and 4K HDMI sources (game consoles?) to either the TV or receiver and enjoy 5.1 uncompressed audio. NOTE: The TV may have a digital out via something called Toslink or SPDIF. Don't bother with this. HDMI adds a feature called CEC which allows you to control the volume, power status, and inputs of the receiver using the TV remote. Toslink doesn't do this.
