Rock solid reliability, obnoxious blue lights

I'm picking on the blue lights because they're really my only complaint: excessively bright blue indicators make it hard to see the pale white net indicator. I plan to put some kind of box over the whole thing. But on the positive side, this modem is very reliable, has a nice diagnostic page accessible from the network, and is more than fast enough for my Comcast Blast! service. Even when coupled with my modest Linksys EA3500 router, I consistently hit 89mbps downloads and 12mbps up, which is exactly what I was getting with the much more expensive box that Comcast was leasing me.

Great modem. Very simple to setup and get online. It pulls up to 300mbs I think, but I only pay for 75mbs which is fast enough for me. Easy on the wallet especially if you catch it on sale. Only con is the blue leds are very bright at night unles you throw some electrical tape over the face. Up to you... definitely worth the buy!

I bought a similar unit from Amazon but the product they have didn't have what was claimed to have and even more costly. The Motorola - SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 High-Speed Cable Modem have performed what it claimed to do to my satisfaction.up to 343 Mbps download and 131 Mbps upload which is more than I need. I would definitely recommend this product to my friends.

This modem is a great replacement if you rent your cable modem from your internet provider. It delivers the same bandwidth and easily connected to my Shentel ISP. All you need to do is call your ISP to let them know there is a new device on their Network. I didn't need a combination wireless modem/router 'cause I have a separate Netgear wireless router that I bought from Best Buy. Hope this helps you decide to buy this Motorola Arris Cable Modem.

Great modem for Time Warner Cable users.

I purchased this modem so that I could stop Time Warner Cable from charging me a monthly fee for their modem. I also purchased a Netgear Nighthawk wireless router to use with it because there is not a built in wireless router in this modem. Motorola does offer another model that has a wireless router built in, but it did not get great reviews and my family is starting to use more and more wireless devices lately, so I decided that a robust wireless router was in order. Also, this motorola modem gets fantastic reviews, while the model with the wireless router built in gets a fair amount of negative reviews. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from buying that model, I'm merely stating why I went with this model. This modem was a snap to set up and start using. I did have to call Time Warner cable and give them the MAC address of the modem so that they could set it up to work with their service, and I had heard that it could be a nightmare (half an hour to an hour on the phone people were telling me), but it only took about 15 minutes for them to get it all set for me. Combine that with the 15 minutes it took me to unpack and connect everything myself and it was up and running in about a half an hour. Once that was done, the modem has been working fantastically ever since. I have had zero issues since installing this modem. As for speed, speed tests (using Time Warners speed test and OOKLA speedtest) before and after installing the modem were about the same. I have Road Runner Turbo, and I think Time Warner has control over the speed, so I can't really say if this modem would be faster for someone who uses a different ISP than Time Warner. My speeds have never been an issue for me. I will say also that we are running more and more devices in my household, and I have not noticed any slowdown in our network using this modem. The one negative I listed in the "what's not so great" section at the beginning is one that I noticed another reviewer wrote and it was one of the only negative things that I saw anyone say, so I'm reiterating it in my review here. The lights on the modem are VERY bright (i've included a photo in the darkness to give an idea of how bright) and the bottom light does always keep blinking (I've read that this may not be the case with certain ISPs, but with mine it blinks constantly), so if you're going to use this modem in your bedroom, you may want to figure a way to put the modem in a cabinet or find some other way to block the bright lights, but for me, I have installed the modem in my basement over my tool bench and I think it's pretty cool to have the bright lights. So for me it's really not an issue, but I'm writing about it to be thorough. I think this modem is great and I have been using it for about a month and a half so far. Also, I entered that I use this in a small home.

It does what it is designed to do perfectly, which is receive the cable signal from your internet service provider (ISP) and allow you to connect to the internet via a local area access (LAN) cable. It is relatively inexpensive for its performance specifications. It gives you a maximum download speed of 343 Megabytes per second (Mbps) and a maximum upload speed of 131 Mbps. To put things in perspective, I am using RCN as my ISP and the maximum download speed they currently offer is 155 Mbps - this is less than half of the maximum this modem can handle, which means, even if you choose the most expensive internet package from this ISP, this modem still gives you a lot of room for future upgrades should your ISP offer faster speeds. Personally, 50 Mbps is more than enough for our needs. We can stream HD movies and play online gaming on my PS4 at home, at the same time, both of which have high demand for bandwidth. This cable modem handles this task easily. So the occasional checking of emails and shopping online and keeping in touch with friends on social networks aren't even worth a concern. Having your own cable modem (as opposed to renting this equipment from your ISP) saves money in the long run. On my monthly bill, I used to pay $5 to rent my ISP's cable modem. In a year, that cost me $60. So in a little over a year, this modem has actually already paid for itself. The ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem is a modem, not a wireless router. Do not expect to be able to connect to it wirelessly out of the box. For wireless connectivity, you will need a wireless router and connect it to this modem. Set up is very simple: there are only 3 cables that you need to use and they only fit in their specific locations on the device... no need to worry about what cable goes where. Out of the box, attach the power cord (included) to the back of the device and the other end to a power outlet. Next, the LAN cable (included) goes into the back of the device and the other end to the LAN port of your computer. Lastly, the coaxial cable (should come from your ISP - it's a thick cable that comes out of the wall) goes into to the back of the device, the other end should be connected to your ISP's equipment behind your wall. After these physical connections have been made, call your ISP to activate the modem. They will just need the serial number (located on the modem's box or on a sticker on the modem itself). This is just to register your device with them so their network recognizes it and allows you to connect. All this takes about 10 minutes or less. Overall, this modem is highly recommended.

I got this on the advise of the ISP tech. I was on a DOCSYS 2 modem and it was working fine but I have had experience with the systems being upgraded and I was stuck with obsolete hardware. I was down for a few days and didn't like it. So, I bought this to be up to date until the next iteration. I don't have the super speed stuff so didn't need the 8 way or more. We have 3 ROKU, 2 desktops, 2 laptops, tablet. Just 2 of us so usually only 2 PCs and 2 ROKU are in use at any one time. Haven't had any problems other than I'm on my third router in 17 years. My modems have never quit on me. This is a good modem and costs less than a third of what my first one cost. Lights are a little bright though.

This is a nice compact modem for a good price. The size is much smaller than the older Arris modem provided by my ISP. Setup was a breeze. My ISP entered the modem Mac ID in their system, turned on a faster service for me and I was good to go. Between my wife, my son, and myself we can stream videos on multiple devices and suffer no lags. One thing to note is that the LEDs on this are very bright (blue in color). I have the modem behind a tv in a bedroom and it casts a blue glow in the corner of the room bright enough to be a night light by itself.

There were a lot of options in choosing a modem, and I'm glad I went with this product. It not only delivers the speed from my internet service at 50Mbps, but my speeds regularly test at higher from 60 to 70 Mbps. I had the option to go with price to fit my budget, but this was worth the extra cost and I am enjoying the higher speeds on my home computer. Had I gone with a cheaper product, I'd be paying for a 50Mbps service, but only getting 7Mbps through the modem. It was worth buying this product over the cheaper versions. Buying this over renting a modem from the internet provider will end up saving money in the long run, and I get to enjoy better performance.

Great modem for using Cox broadband

Cox released some new higher speeds for its customers and I realized that I wasn't seeing the increase in our home connection. I contacted Cox and found out that I was still using a Docsis 2.0 modem and that I needed to upgrade to the Docsis 3.0 to realize the faster speeds. The Motorola Surfboard 3.0 modem has been a solid replacement without any issues. It was plug and play out of the box and I have recommended it to everyone I know still using a 2.0 modem.

The good: Set up was easy. Activated online with Comcast. No tech visit or lengthy phone call. Easy, done. Speeds are fast and steady. The not so good: Apparently the Surfboard and Apple's AirPort Extreme don't play nice together as far as IPv6 is concerned. Lots of research led me to downgrade the firmware on the AirPort Extreme and I signed up for a third party IPv6 host. All is stable now. Another solution that seemed almost unanimous was to get a different modem. Netgear was the most popular option. I opted to keep my Motorola out of trust and satisfaction with the product itself. Another hiccup came a couple weeks ago when the modem stopped responding. A call to Comcast then to arccos/Motorola and many resets later, the modem came back online. Hasn't happened since. Overall, very happy with the modem. A couple of hiccups along the way, but otherwise rock-solid.

The appears to be a great modem. It's been running without a problem for the past month. It's posting higher speeds than the plan we are paying for. We haven't lost our connection once. It was quick and easy to install and get linked to our account.

This is absolutely the best cable modem I've owned. Works great with my Comcast Internet. Low latency and speeds that exceed my expectations. Setup was very easy. Using a wireless router I have 3 iPhones, IPad, PS4, Xbox 360, Wii U, PS3, Directv Genie and Kindle I have had no issues gaming online while my GF streams Netflix movies. A beast of a modem

I have time warner cable for my internet provider - I never really paid attention to the 8 dollars a month they were charging me for my modem - a modem that was going for 20 dollars on Amazon.. I had been using that modem for 3 years - at 8 dollars a month.... wow... This modem took about 5 minutes to get working, I simply plugged it in , called Time Warner, and they were able to program the modem for me in minutes. My speeds have increased using this over what was provided - as well as it will only take a few months to recoup the cost and start actually saving money via the lease being off the bill. You will want to make sure your cable provider supports this modem -- that being said though, this is one of the most popular modem brands ( for a reason ) and I would be surprised if your cable company did not support it -- either way though your are better off making sure. If you have Time Warner - you are all set - I would imagine the same can be said for other cable companies. Either way if you are spending money on a leased modem . STOP! Get one of these.
