Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the TUF GAMING X870-PLUS WIFI motherboard for its top-tier overall performance, incredibly fast Wi-Fi 7, and overclocking capabilities. The inclusion of USB4 is also appreciated, along with the straightforward assembly. However, some customers have expressed concerns about the SSD, price, and occasional issues with the ethernet port.

Works good, pretty much the same as the x870 but with a bit more features. Definitely the move for future proofing.

    Powerful Board but Asthetically Unpleasing

The motherboard is built premium, and works premium. However, I personally dislike ths look of it. The TUF sign on the VRM heatsink is in shiny, mirror-like silver, making the look a bit cheap. If you run an air cooler, it’s fine because you can block it. If you run an aio, unfortunately it will be exposed and you will see that cheap silver.

A solid AM5 board with a few quirks

GOOD - Four M.2 NVMe ports ( two are 5.0 x4 ) with quick connect mounts - Two rear USB4 ports - Wi-Fi 7 - External magnetic mount Wi-Fi antenna - Lots of overclocking and tweaking settings - Lots of QD connectors for easy (dis)assembly BAD - Expensive - Only two SATA ports - Two M.2 slots share connections with other interfaces - None of the M.2 slots have bottom heat sinks and thermal pads - Wi-Fi drivers only work for Windows 11 TLDR The TUF X870-Plus Wi-Fi is a solid, if slightly pricey, AM5 motherboard for someone building their own gaming or professional computer. The biggest limitation is storage, as it has only 2 SATA ports for large capacity spindle drives and you can't use all four M.2 drives without cutting bandwidth to the expansion card slots. The built-in Wi-Fi also will only work on Windows 11. DETAILS First, let's get the board's price out of the way. Right now it's going for about $300, and that's not cheap by any means. However, it's quite difficult to get an X870 motherboard under $200, and many of the fancier boards are over $500. So in that light, $300 isn't that bad. Considering this board has USB4, Wi-Fi 7, and two PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slots for the fastest NVMe drives, the asking price is fairly reasonable. Asus boards tend to be $10-$20 more expensive than similar ASRock or MSI boards. Asus will usually tell you that's because of the extra work they put into the BIOS/UEFI and all the tweaking and overclocking settings you'll find there, which is somewhat true. Whether those extra settings matter to you depends on how finely you want to configure your CPU clocks and power settings. If all you care about is basic CPU tweaking, then probably not. But if you want full control over every clock, multiplier, and voltage setting, it might be something to consider. The rear I/O of the board is generously outfitted with 10 USB ports; two are 40 Gbps USB4 type-C ports, three are 10 Gbps type-A ports, so attaching high-speed external storage or peripherals isn't an issue. An additional 20 Gbps type-C header with 30W Power Delivery is on the board, if your case supports that. As this is an AM5 board, it supports BIOS flashback, allowing you to update the firmware without even needing a CPU or RAM. The audio controller is an ALC 1220, which is nicer than many boards offer today. And as mentioned, a Wi-Fi 7 / Bluetooth 5.4 controller is integrated into the board. Instead of basic stick antennas that connect onto the board and stay in the back ( where signal can be compromised by the computer case, Asus includes a magnetically mounted antenna that can be mounted farther away from the computer. A sign that Asus pays attention to DIY builders is that most interfaces have some type of easy (dis)connect feature. The Wi-Fi antenna uses a Q connector instead of threaded SMA connectors. The main expansion card slot has a locking tab that's reachable from the front of the motherboard, so you don't need to use a slim jim to remove the GPU after a CPU heat sink is installed. All M.2 slots have quick mounting clips so you don't have to mess with tiny screws to mount them in the slot. However, you will need to deal with screws to aces the M.2 slots as none of the top heat shields have any quick clips on them. None of them have a bottom thermal pad or heat sink either, so if you have a high-performance double-sided NVMe drive, it may run into thermal throttling and excess wear. The downsides of the board are few, but somewhat significant. Biggest is the limitations on storage. Only two SATA ports are available, despite the X870 chipset having many more available. If you still use an internal optical drive, or want more than two spindle drives for high-capacity storage, you're out of luck ( admittedly that's not a huge concern these days ). Also, though four M.2 slots are available for NVMe storage, using them all simultaneously comes with big restrictions. Both the first and second M.2 are routed through the CPU at PCIe 5.0 x4 bandwidth. However, the second M.2 shares lanes with the primary PCIe slot, meaning your GPU gets cut to 5.0 x8 if you use the second M.2. The other two M.2 slots go through the chipset at 4.0 x4, but slot #4 shares lanes with the bottom PCIe card slot, and only one can be used at a time. The other big limitation is that the Wi-Fi drivers currently only work on Windows 11. This is an issue with MediaTek, the Wi-Fi card manufacturer and not Asus. It's rather silly, as the drivers themselves specifically have Windows 10 configuration modes in the driver information files, but they won't install. Altogether, it's a nice AM5 board. The USB4 ports and Wi-Fi7 give you forward-looking connectivity and building a system with it is quick and easy thanks to the plentiful Q connectors used throughout. Plenty of fan headers are available, including one meant for a water pump that can deliver 36W.

Sharp looking mobo for X870 AMD line. It worked right out of the box with my 9800X3D. The Black coloring is great with my blackout build. There's only 2 SATA ports if you're still using that. There are 4 M.2 slots.

Very clean layout… the Q-dashboard in BIOS makes it very simple to verify connected fan/aio/pump/rgb headers VRM IO heatsink is on the thick-side so be wary of clearance if using a case with top mount AIO (ie : Artic Freezer thick rads)
